I do not get on Yelp very often. Only when I've had an exceptional experience, or wish to keep others from making the same mistakes I did. Morningstar completely lost my trust when they charged us for "cosmetic damage" to the boat. We didn't run into other boats. We didn't have trouble docking. We had a sober captain the whole time.. They charged us for pulling the boat up onto a sandy beach. No damage to the boat or motor, just some sand on the toons. Total fiasco trying to get our deposit back. Horrible communication. Morning "one" star Marina could have been a great experience leaving us with lake memories from a wonderful pontoon rental trip. However, it ended up a disaster due to credit card holds and fines.... When we arrived back to the Marina, we were told that a GPS had sensed we were too close to the beach and they would need to do a full inspection of the boat. A $2000 hold was put on our credit card, for what seemed like forever!! The problem? The boats already had heavy wear and tear prior to our using them (they looked pretty old). There were no pictures or pre-inspection done with the party, so I question how they know what party caused the damage. When I asked the manager for any proof the damage was caused by our party, he said something along the lines of "We just know, we looked before". The boat is taken it multiple times a week and we were very cautious about keeping the boat damage-free (raising the trim, using buoys etc.,). My question for Morning "one"star... Did going too close to the beach cause the radio to break as well? (it was never working from the start) based on their logic we should replace that too. In the end we were charged a hefty fine with no real way to do anything about it. Part of me wonders if it was because we were all in our mid-20s and easy targets, hmmmm. We opted to rent a couple of pontoon boats to take the team out as a team building activity. Most of us were amateur boaters and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The marina was clean and very easy to navigate. The lake was sparkling and beautiful. There weren't any landmarks or points of interest, but the houses around the lake were fascinating and led to daydreaming. Definitely will return. read more

A real joke of a spot. I recently just signed a one year lease here, and have been far from impressed. I literally had to call them 3 times for a signed lease. The facility itself is clean, the staff however is not up to Par. Even the manager who finally got me my lease said he could care less. The worse part is , I rented two jet skis from here and it turned into a big joke. First the pictures online for booking and what you get are so vastly different that is amusing . It may be criminal actually which I why I plan to send the pictures to the Attorney Generals office. Then after the disappointment there, my buddies machine broke down and they not only didn't have a substitute they honestly could have cared less. I am quite sad that my boat is committed here for the next 10 months...Run!! read more

Very disappointed .... Non-professional behavior by staff who acted and appeared quite young led to an overall negative experience ~ start to finish. Additionally, owner(s) held our party responsible for 'damage' when the ladder already showed noted damage at onset of our use. After renting a boat out on the lake which was not properly checked and did not have a working radio, I would avoid renting from Morningstar Marinas at all costs unless you want to be taken advantage of. With boats in mostly poor condition (scratches, dings, poor technology, etc) our party brought the boat back after our voyage for a full inspection. Having been told that there were "cosmetic damages on the bottom of the skeg, extra marks on the side of the boat, and dents all along the bottom" of the boat due to beaching, we were told that we may be charged for cosmetic damages for the boat. There were no pictures taken of the boat before the voyage so there was no way of proving that the damage was already there. Morningstar charged the card (for $2,000), instead of "placing a hold" like they had told us, finding this out only after my credit card company had called and asked about the charge 10 days later. We had little to no contact with the Marina about any of the damages except through one of the dock hands (not even the manager) who had little clue of what was going on. This process went over the course of 2 months where we were told that we would be contacted by the Marina about any additional information or charges. This wasn't the case as we were the one's who had to reach out every time to figure out what was going on. During this same time we were told that the boats had been taken out by other boaters and that "further inspection" would be needed 3 weeks after our voyage for damages. All in all, the extremely poor business practices of Morningstar stringing along customers with their service isn't worth the risk of renting from them. We waited 2 months and had placed 2 disputes with our credit card company just to have the situation resolved. If you do decide to rent, which it would be in your best interest to go to another marina, double and triple check (and take pictures) of the contract because it was only after they hand wrote on the contract after the 2 months that there was an additional fee for beaching the boats. Lastly, ask them to lift the boat and do a personal inspection with your own eyes because they will do anything and everything to nickel and dime your for fixing up their poorly kept boats. read more

We've used this marina for the last several years, both the marina side and also the rental side. Great location not far from the interstate, plenty of parking and solid unloading area. The marina is very well maintained with lockers, grill area's, and a well-stocked store for ice/drinks/etc. Personnel have always been friendly and knowledgable and we've never had any issues renting boats or meeting friends for a day out on the lake. Note that they are located at the very bottom of Lake Norman so you will be on the water a while before you hit the main channel and the various inlets further north. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. It's sad that Safe Harbor has destroyed the Kings Point name that Morningstar spent so many years building. From the moment Safe Harbor purchased the marina it has drastically taken a turn for the worse. repairs to the facility are ignored even after after multiple requests. Including safety issues like non functioning dock pedestal lights and wiring. Customers always paid monthly prior to the purchase. Just 3 weeks prior to the boating season and contracts renewing they inform those customers that either it needs to be paid in full for the year or 4 months in a row of quarterly payments. Then, after many complaints due to being informed just a few weeks prior, the option was given for true quarterly payments but only after paying a large security deposit. Then prices were increased in some cases over $1500 per year. For the better part of 6 months we were told the wifi network was being updated. It would offer much better coverage. What it was, and most only found out after contracts were signed was it would cost you up to $600 more per year as they will throttle speeds forcing customers to purchase the premium service. And of you want those speeds inside your boat you must purchase a device for around $300. Our jet ski which was under contract through the end of February we informed we would not renew. We were then told in January we had ten days to vacate the jet ski. On February 1st we were charged another month due to early cancelation even though we were told to vacate and they had already put another jet ski in its place. So they double dipped. After reaching out to corporate and management about the issues with just 4 days notice we're we're told to vacate our boat or face legal action. This is how they address customer issues. We are not the only ones. We know of several others this happened to and was even told by the manager at another location to cancel anyone who complains. Stay away. read more

As someone that grew up on the water, and worked at a marina with boat rentals, I am beyond displeased with the way this place operates. Our group rented two pontoon boats for the day. We listened to the young dockhand do her spiel. Not once were we advised to stay off the beach. She even went as far as to show us "party cove" while running through the map of the lake with us. We did end up going to the cove, and as windy as it was, we decided to get on the shore rather than use the dinky anchors we were supplied with. As is good practice, we trimmed the motor up - we had 8 men to push it onto shore. Upon returning we were told we may be charged for cosmetic damage for the pontoons (the silver things that these boats float on) - the mud comes off with soap and water which any decent marina would do daily. We were told we may be charged for the cosmetic damage to the sked (the lower piece of the motor - not the propeller). The renter/captain did not take pictures of the motor before we left so had no way to prove that the damage was already there. The worst and most unprofessional part of this whole ordeal, is they kept a $2,000 hold on our credit cards for weeks while they had the boats "inspected". They told us it would take one week to inspect. We called multiple times per week and had to call our bank to remove the hold. 2 months later, we were charged $550... Not sure if they use this as an additional revenue stream or what but we will continue to fight this and will not ever do business with this establishment again. read more

I am new to NC and decided to joined this marina this year. I can say that I have never been more happy! The Operations Manager Brad and Abbey who also works in the office have been the best. Any questions I had were answered and they were willing to go the extra mile to help with whatever I needed. The facilities are clean and well kept and every staff member I have come in contact with has been so nice! I'm glad I decided to be a member of this marina! This could easily be a 5 star review as we had an outstanding experience yesterday minus the final two minutes. Logan, the General Manager, accused us of bending one of the tie offs while docking. While we did bump the dock in the same location as the tie off, it was bent when we boarded the boat that morning. Instead of simply calling Braden who checked us out to confirm what we were saying, Logan decided to essentially call us liars. Thankfully Braden was still working and quickly assured Logan the tie off was bent prior to us boarding. I highly advise anyone renting to note and take photos and/or video of any damage to the craft before departing. I wonder how many people have been charged for damages they did not cause? read more

We recently purchased a brand new watercraft and wanted to find a great marina home for our new expensive family boat. After looking at about 6 places on LKN and comparing prices and services we settled on Morningstar Marina. By Far an AWESOME choice. The staff is top notch and always professional. They were able to take the boat right off the trailer w/ the fork lifts and were careful. Forklift team is very good, and experienced. While i would say this marina costs just a tiny bit more, the care, precision of well working marina & staff is sooooooo worth it. They know you buy name. Facilities are clean, fresh and the Marina store is great, always polite. You can feel that nice southern hospitality in this marina, and was very glad we chose this marina. We decided to dry store our 22' boat and it so easy you just call, and tell them what time you are coming there, and your boat will be there ready... so you can maximize your families/friends time. I've been around some other marinas and they get so dumpy and grimy... and there is just dirt and grim everywhere... but not morning star... very very clean, even the floors in the dry dock were polished to a bight shine. You really do get a great aura and feel here... When you unload your car for the day, they have dock carts. You can quickly swing by the store and grab some ice and pop it right on your account. It's truly about getting the max out of your time on the water. Wanted to thank the team there for a great job helping us settle in with our new boat and relationship there... they were always polite, answered all my questions, and took time to make sure we were comfortable. this is the biggest freakin lake i've ever seen in my life and i'm really writing the review for the lake. just what i needed for a long weekend away from new york city. we rented a pontoon boat at Kings Point, loaded it with beer and hit the water for some R&R. it's pretty cool watching them drop boats in the water with that giant fork truck. i got horribly sunburned from being in the sun all day. i hate boats and lakes and sun and water but it was still pretty awesome when i dove off of a moving boat and Brian got mad at me. read more

Kings Point (Safe Harbor) is HORRIBLEEEEEE! Contracts before safe harbor purchased were monthly payments. This New company is NOT upfront.  Now you must pay annually or if you want to pay Quarterly, they will charge you a $500 deposit or pay 3 payments every month for 4 months. Also, increased prices for the slips. NO HEADS UP about it. They haven't informed ALL their customers about the new contracts,  but wait to just prior to expiration of existing contra t. Safe Harbor apparently is part of the Cancel Culture. I guess it is too much for the GM to deal with, SOOO don't "complain" about valid issues they will NOT renew your contract. Issues not even pertaining to contracts or pricing. We heard from another Safe Harbor Marina. They are getting rid of the "COMPLAINERS". You are not their customer, or you are I should rather say, as long as you don't have anything to say. It's very sad to see what is happening and how they are treating their long-term customers. You want internet? You can pay extra for that too. Also, they bought a few more marinas on the lake. So, they are monopolizing the marinas so Safe Harbor can impose whatever they want to boaters. We rented 2 boats for a friends birthday. We followed all procedures for keeping the boat nice and clean. On the return though the workers said that we had chipped the propeller and left the outside with more bumps than it came out with. They basically saw a chance to take advantage of some 25 year old's and make more money. They told us they were only going to charge us around $130 in damages, but then they ended up charging us $2000 worth without telling us why. We called multiple times and they would never tell us why they charged that amount. We finally got amex to dispute the charges and they brought it down to $500 total. We called again to ask why it went from $130-$500 but they could not give us a reason why. They just kept saying we will call you back and never did. If you are a younger group be very careful with renting from them because they see this as an opportunity to take advantage of you and charge you more. Take pictures of the whole boat before you leave so you have evidence after when they try to up charge you. read more

I would not ever recommend renting a boat from this facility. They definitely try to pull a fast one on inexperienced boaters, just to get their money. As someone who is a well experienced boater and also managed a marina on LKN for 7 years, the service here is appalling. The pontoon rental that we had was in no condition to be rented out for service. I understand it was a "party barge," however, they had said upon renting it months prior that you could tube behind this boat. However, the boat was only running at 2000 RPM, (idle speed.) The lower unit of the motor was messed up and the trim would not operate from the console. Upon lifting the trim, I discovered that the skeg was missing. Therefore, not allowing the boat to turn properly, nor safely. Something that must be operational to manage changing speed and changing water conditions. Upon returning to the gas dock, the dockhand was extremely rude throughout the entire unloading process. My guess is because he thought he was dealing with inexperienced boaters. From my prior boating customer service experience, this is no was to run a gas dock, nor boat rental service, especially when it's paying customers. All in all, very displeased from my experience with this marina. If you're looking to rent a boat, I would recommend Lake Effects, a private captained boat, or any other rental service read more

Rude staff and the dirtiest boat I have ever rented! Not only did I have to clean it myself and remove all the cobwebs (they were everywhere), the seats were a mold haven. Had to sit on towels the entire day. Then upon return, imagine my surprise when I was told my boat was dirty. No managers around to talk to all day! Return to Lake Norman? Absolutely!!!
