Had a "girls getaway" weekend with my close friend to spend time just relaxing. We loved our room and the views from the back balcony, perfect for some quiet time! The beds were very comfortable, the room was very clean and welcoming. We walked into the restaurant and bar when we arrived and it's a beautiful facility but we never got to eat or drink anything there during our stay due to it being closed for a private event on the day we would have been able to do so. The location is perfect, tucked away and peaceful but only 6 minutes to downtown Clayton. We enjoyed the spa, it's very nice and relaxing. We spent time in the indoor pool and hot tub prior to our massage appointments. The indoor pool could probably use some updating/maintenance but we still enjoyed our time. The management and staff are unwelcoming and act as if they do not want your business. The rooms are dated and have bugs. The bartenders are drunk while serving. Very disappointed considering the course is in nice shape. This place needs new management asap and could be a very neat place. read more

The restaurant overlooks part of the golf course and beautiful trees. It is wonderful being surrounded by nature. We visited as the colors on the trees were just starting to change. I enjoyed watching relatives playing golf and just staring out the window. We had lunch and dinner in the restaurant. The building is near the golf store and the check in desk. If you are looking for the pool, it is just past the restaurant. The bar area is small enough to be intimate and large enough to accommodate a group of 40 without feeling crowded. The bathrooms are downstairs. Each condo has complete kitchen so you don't really need a restaurant. It was a nice addition. It also meant we didn't have to leave the grounds to grab a bite. The dining area can be divided into sections to have more than one private party. We enjoyed a casual lunch with just our group. The menu isn't that varied but we had sandwiches, salads and hummus. The salads were a bit earthy at lunch and dinner. The lunch prices were reasonable. My lunch was under $9.00. The view is relaxing and beautiful. The venue is perfect for a party or celebration. It isn't DC's Willard Hotel but it is a great mountain get a way. We had a birthday party with approximate 40 guests. The food was set up buffet style. The food was wonderful. The staff was able to accommodate vegans and vegetarians. The pasta was delicious. We had tomato and alfredo sauces. The mixed vegetables were tasty. The salmon was quality and nicely cooked. The salad was colorful and had edible flowers in it. The dressings were delicious (and helped over up the gritty tasting lettuce). There was a variety of pies for dessert. We were allowed to bring our own birthday cake. There was a cash bar, water and tea. The staff did a great job at restocking, refilling and making sure we had what we needed (without hovering). This looks like the perfect wedding venue. We had a great party and it was convenient staying on the property. read more

Three star average for this place at the moment feels pretty spot-on. The food was good enough that I'd come back in a pinch but there's much better food in nearby downtown Clayton. We tried the fried artichoke appetizer which came mostly as a giant pile of ranch dressing with some pieces of lettuce and overly fried fryness (very little of the artichoke flavor I was seeking). The tomato bisque tasted slightly off and not at all what we were expecting. We got a Caesar salad that was pretty good and it came in a huge portion. For main dish we tried the mashed potatoes and hanger steak with side roasted squash, zucchini, and mushrooms. Honestly the side didn't look very appetizing and we hardly ate any of it. The steak came as thinly cut slices which isn't what we were expecting but it actually might have been better as leftovers the next day flavor wise. We spent about $50 but we did get a lot of food. The people were very friendly here and stayed open just a little bit late to accommodate us which was nice. The space is elegant and comfortable but the quality of food does not match it quite. read more

Found this place by accident went in and did a wine tasting, and Wow! What amazing wines and great atmosphere! Did not get a chance to stay in the resort but will definitely come back soon! The staff was quite pleasant here and was as accommodating as they could be, but unfortunately, we probably won't return. There are ants and spiders in our room coming in from the gaps in the front door, and the bleach in a spray bottle (with the old dirty industrial gloves) we were given by the front desk lady isn't working. The exterior of the rooms has spider webs and very old carpet. As I sat at the desk to write this, I killed a bug crawling up leg and then found a long strand of hair that didn't belong to neither my wife or I. The spa was probably one of the nicer features, but just wasn't quite what my wife and I were expecting. The spa treatments were actually good. I enjoyed the massage from April, and my wife enjoyed her pedicure. The room we were in seemed to be renovated, but it's more of a motel feel with the wall A/C unit and an "old school" box TV. We had to request a remote, which was promptly brought to the room. But the ants just weren't a good look. Great customer service, but this place unfortunately doesn't live up to the "resort" in its name; its more of a motel with a golf course. I think with a little more work with the rooms (i.e., sealing the doors), it could be a nice, affordable destination. read more

Personality of the staff is where it is at for this place. Everyone has a big, southern hospitality personality. My understanding is that there are new owners so hopefully that will address some opportunities for improvement. Visually the hotel doesn't look like much and is in need of some touch ups. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. However, for a resort I expected better quality towels and linens and the room shouldn't smell like musty grandma. Another high point was the food at the on-site restaurant. Again, friendly, friendly, friendly. It was one of the better meals I've had in a very long time. The view made for a well-rounded dining experience. I wish them luck as they make their upgrades. I will try them again in the future. read more

Everybody we dealt with at Kingwood was very nice. For that reason, I feel bad about giving it a pretty low rating. You can tell they are trying. However, it was not what I expected and I feel like I need to leave a review that reflects the reality of the situation. The exterior at Kingwood is very attractive. The grounds are well-maintained and all the signage looks fresh. The style of the buildings looks a little rustic/dated, but that's fine. We had no problems checking in or finding our room. Our room looked very similar to the pictures on the website. The paint and decor seemed fairly new and updated, although there was nothing about it that seemed luxurious or resort-like. The linens were utilitarian and the bed was VERY firm. The TV was older and not a flat screen, which did not bother my family (we don't have cable at home so any TV is a vacation treat for us!) but might bother some. The bathroom area was clean and functional, but not much to look at. There has been a lot written about the breakfast buffet on other sites. We were there on Monday and Tues mornings and we felt like there was a decent spread. They had scrambled eggs and bacon/sausage both days, hot biscuits, English muffins and pastries, a selection of fruit, a selection of cold cereal and milk, and instant oatmeal/grits. The employee staffing the buffet was really nice and made sure we knew she was available for anything we needed. The coffee was awful, though. The first day I thought it was bad because it was near the bottom of the warmer. The second day it was just as horrible. Undrinkable. I think the devil is in the details, and the details are what stop me from recommending Kingwood. I consider myself pretty tolerant of shabbiness (especially if the price point was low enough), but I think some others would be really put off by some of the details of the resort. The hot tub was fine (maybe could have been warmer), but there was ring-around-the-tub. I opened a door in the spa/pool area and noticed that the doorframe was COVERED in rust--not just a rust spot, covered. Fresh paint on the walls, but you can still see where they are buckled and patched in places. The part that was the most disappointing was, unfortunately, the pool. I have three young kids and part of the reason for our getaway was so that we could relax and use the indoor pool. It also rained most of the time we were there, so the pool was the main attraction. I found the pool area to be really, really gross. The entire room is COVERED in mildew. I didn't have to break out my magnifying glass--it is all over the walls, in the joints by the sliding doors, and creeping up the huge vaulted ceiling. The lighting was eery and fluorescent. I think only a few of the lights were working. The pool itself was fine--I didn't see any reason to think it wasn't clean so we used it...I just felt icky the whole time because the whole room was so gross. I would not recommend this resort to anyone who wanted to use the pool, even though the pool was what attracted us there in the first place. My final rating is a three because I think there are still things for people to enjoy about Kingwood. I feel like it's obvious that they are trying very hard--I get the impression that the place may have fallen into disrepair at some point and is maybe on its way back up. The golf course, by the way, looked beautiful. I'm not a golfer but it was nice to look at it. You may still want to visit Kingwood, just know that there are some unfortunate flaws that you should be aware of that could affect how much you enjoy your stay. read more

We stayed here recently for a wedding . PROS: 1) Location. Clayton is a beautiful place, period. 2) Staff members are nice and helpful. Most of the townspeople are too. 3) The golf course was nice. 4) The spa! Glenda and Chelsa were both professional and great. The spa has recently been redone and it looks lovely. CONS: 1) the room we stayed in felt dingy. It was in dire need of some updating. It really showed its age in some areas- the bathroom drains were slow, the closet was in desperate need of a cleaning and a painting, etc. The sheets on our bed were very worn and 'picked'. 2) The restaurant said they would serve food until 9 pm (we stopped by specifically to ask since we had a late lunch and wanted late dinner). We got to the restaurant at 8 and the doors were locked. Summary: all in all, we had a great time with no major complaints. I do think the exteriors of the hotel buildings and the insides need some paint/upkeep/ deep cleaning. I've heard some of the buildings are being renovated. If this is true, we will definitely be back for another stay. read more

I have yet to stay....but have a room booked for this weekend. I just called and wanted to know about the taxes. I was informed that the taxes are 12% and as of today the will be a Resort fee of $12. I asked if that would affect individuals who booked prior to the the Resort start date. I was informed that YES we will have to pay. My issue is that this room was booked as part of a wedding party. So I'm sure that the contract did not state a Resort fee (will find out). Hoping to get this resolved before check in/check out. WILL UPDATE REVIEW AFTER CHECK OUT. read more

I stayed here in February, the restaurant was closed for the season and I didn't visit the pool or golf. I thought the 2 queen bed room was pretty solid for $85/night (after fees, taxes, and whatnot). The bed was comfortable and the pillows were just right. No real complaints, it was no luxury hotel but pretty solid for the price. The staff was friendly too. read more

I won a nights stay and 2 free spa packages (mani, pedi, facial, massage) with the bility to have uo to 3 guests accompany me at a bridal expo about 8 months back. Throughout the process both the front desk and the spa worked with me and were very helpful. On arrival the room was beautiful, we loved the balcony and the view. athe beds were a little firm, but my friend and I slept through the night like babies it was so peaceful and quiet. The restaurant was delicious although they were a tad overloaded due to hosting a high school reunion. It was understandable. We had a tift about the spa because a guest I brought wanted to opt out of her facial abd was told and thrown back by the 60% charge for changing or canceling within 24 hours of service. A friend called and it wasn't handled very well, bit then another friend called and discuss with Elizabeth who became extremely reasonable and I want to thank her so mich and apologize for our less than stellar behavior. I very much enjoyed my stay and am very grateful you worked with us. I recommend and I will hopefully be returning someday in the future. read more

I came here with my family of 4 and we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay. Our 1st floor spacious condo was very nice and modern with 2 medium sized bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, the master having 2 sinks and a jacuzzi tub! The kitchen, dining area and living room was one big open space which we loved and where we spent the majority of our time. The living area opened up to a screened in porch with comfortable rocking chairs, bench and table with chairs. It was a short distance away from one of the holes on the golf course and had a beautiful view of the mountains and sunset. It was very quiet and I never heard the people above us or on either side of us. All of the staff we came into contact with were very accommodating and easy to deal with. We were able to rent a golf cart for 45 minutes to ride around the golf course and enjoy the views one afternoon. The breakfast buffet was decent. We never ate in the dining room for lunch or dinner but it was a nice option. We definitely enjoyed our time at the spa! We got scalp massages and our hair done by the hair dresser. She is very personable and gives the best scalp massage I've ever had. We enjoyed our massages by the massage therapist as well! There is an indoor pool as well as a fitness room. There is also a hot tub in the women's bathroom/locker room. We only experienced 2 small issues which did not affect us too much because we are easy going and really did not mind. It was scheduling conflicts where we had requested things on the spa menu but the scheduler did not allow enough time on the schedule. My recommendation to anyone making an appointment is to specify exactly what you want and double check that they provide the appropriate time slot for your session. We loved that the resort is a short distance away from town where there are plenty of places to eat and shop. It is also a short drive to Tallulah Gorge Falls and Dillard, GA. read more

I was looking forward to 2 nights here based on reviews on another site. My experience was definitely more in line with previous Yelp reviews! Lets start with the good: beautiful setting, big room, good mattress & pillows, large balcony, hair dryer, iron & board. Concerns: First, this is an OLD property in serious need of updating. But that doesn't excuse: not enough parking (3 spaces for 4 rooms); the musty smell was so overwhelming I opened the door to the balcony, turned the AC on high and turned on the fan in the bathroom for a couple hours to try and circulate the air; no luggage rack/stand; the handle used to open the curtain broke the first time I tried to use it; really bad cell reception (maybe not their fault, but critical for so many folks); no TV guide or even channel guide, so good luck trying to find anything; totally unsecured wifi which was rather weak; silverfish in bathtub two days in a row (see photo); unrepaired damage to bathroom wall (see photo); miscellaneous hairs in bathtub and on bathroom floor (one in photo of bugs); a shower head which was no better than if the water was just coming out of the pipe with no head at all; dried soap on the sink handle which I had to scrape off with my fingernail to get rid of it; and, of course, I ended up being the lucky one to get a TV remote which didn't totally work to begin with and was never fully fixed. Whew! I would have left the day I arrived were it not for the fact that I was there for a wedding and would never have embarrassed the hosts by going elsewhere. For a place that calls themselves a resort, the rooms are so not resort worthy. Here's a breakdown of our room: First impression is - not the worst hotel room, but not anything near the luxury look I've seen at other resorts. Definitely needs some updating! * The tv is a flat screen, so I'll give them that * Furnishings had scratches and dents on them * couldn't look out of our sliding glass door because the seal was busted so it was all fogged up between the panels * the weather stripping around the doors were old/nonexistent so you can see light coming in from outside * little bugs found their way into the room because of the gaps * toilet & towel holders were plastic and not fastened tightly against the wall - we thought they would fall off any second * shower curtain seemed dingy * caulking all around the tub was moldy or peeling off and hanging down * tub was installed crooked, so you are standing on an angle and having your shower accessories sliding off of the ledges - how is that possible!?!? * all pictures & mirrors hanging on the wall, and all lamp shades were crooked! Not a huge deal, but it's just like...really?? Other things to note: * staff is very odd (especially in the restaurant). I asked what the soup of the day was and this is exactly what our waiter said "we have a French onion soup," (which was already printed in the menu) "and we also have another one, I think it's a tomato basil. I saw it in the back when I was walking by but I'm not really sure. I'm not good with food. But I can cook a hotdog, haha" ......not laughing. He didn't even go back to ask! He also came out at one point and told us he forgot to tell the chef that we wanted 2 salads, so "he's making the second one now". Thanks? And then when we got our bill he only put one salad on the check. We asked him to look at it again and he assured us that it was right. $12.84 for 2 salads with chicken added? Sure, we'll take it. We actually deserved it. Our friends who were staying here also tried the "complimentary" breakfast the next morning and warned us to NOT waste our time because it was absolutely horrible. Every single thing was cold just after 15 minutes of opening (buffet style). We aren't ones to complain but our friends pulled aside one of the staff in the restaurant and told her how everything was cold and just not good. The lady replied with "ok thanks" really???? Customer service here sucks!!! If you are here for the golf, COME! The course is beautiful!!! That's the only thing going for this place! read more

The place was only mediocre. Paying $630 for 2 nights. The water was off, the heat was turned off to the water. The second day they ran out of food at the breakfast that was included. They just said sorry with no offer to provide any compensation for no breakfast. read more

I never write reviews but I felt morally obligated to let everyone know what Kingwood is REALLY like before they go. My husband and I felt very deceived by the website once we got to our room. All of the amenities outdated (ex: carpet, paint on walls needed major touch ups, bathroom,interior, and exterior of rooms) the mattress was VERY firm, and it felt springy and unstable and the sheets were rough too. Our room wasn't clean, and there was a horrible smell in our room. The staff was strange and not well kept, mostly teenage girls worked there and the customer service was extremely disappointing too. The food was AWFUL (breakfast and dinner). We were expediting a comfortable and clean stay - nothing fancy, but just an enjoyable time while we were in our room but instead we ended up leaving early. I will, however, brag on Mark, the manager at the Kingwood Spa, he was professional and each Massage Therapist did a great job for my husband and I. Overall, we had a terrible experience, one bad thing after the other; we will not be back. read more
