It made it easy for everyone to enjoy the evening. The night before reception was quaint and beautifully staged to welcome everyone. The food from the restaurant and reception was outstanding. From the stuffed pepper appetizer and ham and biscuit to the pasta and chicken dish was delicious. All of the food was fresh and plentiful. The staff managed the crowd well and were professional clearing used plates and utensils off guest tables and replenishing tables. The Vineyard at High Holly reserved the property for the wedding weekend without other guests being on the property. I would recommend this venue for a small wedding that you would like to remain quaint and allow for the bride and groom to be present with their guests.

Pulling in I saw a "check-in" area, but no one manning the station. I walked into the building and found a friendly woman who found someone to lead me to my villa. As we drove up to the building, again, it was attractive. My first inclination of things descending towards a negative experience was that there were no keys, we simply left the doors unlocked. I understand that it was isolated and all, but we had some expensive things that we were expected to leave to the wanderings of any person with less than honorable intentions. Another issue was that the villa was cold, like in the sixties cold and the thermostats were locked (I guess they did not trust their guests to set a proper temperature). The biggest issue that they simply would not correct, even after four separate complaints, was that there was a wasp nest directly outside of our door. Literally a foot from the front door. The wasps were swarming us as we tried to enter. Finally, after the fourth attempt to get this resolved, a man told me that we were in nature and this was part of nature. They claimed they sprayed it, but these wasps were perfectly fine to continue their harrassment of us. Fortunately, no one was stung. As for other things, my son's bathroom was missing a light cover for the ceiling light in his bathroom (I am sure a code violation) and the wall was cracked. There was a nice veranda, but when I placed my hand on the wood, it was rotted and crumbled under my hand. What if I learned against it? Well, fortunately, I didn't or I might have fallen down a considerable distance. The walking railings throughout the property had been pulled up by age. All they would need would be to be tightened down, but, again, they were left in neglect. Now for the wedding service. The church on property is beautiful. The minister my cousin flew in was wonderful, but the organist that the venue provided was not well versed on the organ. She literally butchered the wedding march. My son, who is a music teacher, and I discussed it and she played the song at the proficiency of perhaps an eight month student. I will say that she played better with the band at the cocktail hour, but my son even wondered if she was the only keyboardist in Clayton, Georgia. She did sing a lot better and did a decent job handling the pop standards with her singing, but her keyboard prowess definitely needed work. The wedding reception started off with the D.J.'s playing the wrong song for the couple's first dance. The food at the reception was simply awful. It was served buffer style. The tenderloin was nervy and tough, the shrimp and grits were more grits with a minuscule amount of shrimp chopped in (the shrimp is supposed to be placed over the grits), the chicken and waffles were below a standard I would hold for frozen TV dinners. The ranch dressing that was with the salad bar was pretty good. My niece also seen a big on the floor (I guess more of that nature thing). Again, the place is beautiful, but it is the lack of attention and concern for the guests that made me give it one star. Honestly, if I could give it minus stars, I would, it was that bad.

Once we got to the lower part of the castle, we found our trek wasn't quite done yet, as we needed to hike through a field and some trails in order to get to the main part, so onward we went. By the time we arrived, we could've really used some beer or mead to parch our thirst, but we couldn't find any. All of the food and beverage vendors had really long lines, so we decided to hold off until we got back in town instead. I really enjoyed the variety of vendors selling their wares. There were so many handmade items and I found a lot to be very fairly priced. My favorite part was seeing the birds of prey in addition to just soaking in all the cool costumes people came up with. All in all, it was a fun experience but not something I'd want to do in summer when it's hot when there's so much walking involved.

You can't see the castle upon arrival, they take you in a bus up the hill so, I liked that it didn't ruin the surprise. They had little Tiaras for purchase and they give you a small prize when you complete the word puzzle they hand you. And event here would be cool. It would also be great if they had more drink or snacks for purchase but imagine that's in the works!! This was a costly project so, it will only get better!

There is adequate parking in front of the clubhouse and a bag drop is provided. The clubhouse was nice and the men's locker room was impressive. The driving range has a sufficient number of hitting areas and the practice putting green is very large. As I played the course in late fall, the practice facilities showed their wear from a season of use. Still, the conditions were acceptable. The practice area includes a dedicated area for bunker practice and pitching practice. While many course have a practice bunker, few have their practice facilities set up well for hitting pitch shots like Currahee Club does. One drawback to the layout is that the bunker sits between the hitting area for pitches and the green, so some coordination and care is necessary if more than a few of people are using the bunker and pitching practice area. There is a refreshment shack located at the driving range where food and drink can be purchased. Next to it is an outdoor seating area for anyone wishing to take in the view of the scenery or simply take a break from practicing. Golfers pass by this refreshment shack when going from 9th green to 10th tee. Electric golf carts were provided. As a practical matter, this course is not walkable. The green-to-tee distances are all long to very long. Many of the tee-to-fairway distances are also long. There are five sets of tees with the scorecard course lengths ranging from 5,051 to 7,394 yards. The course and slope ratings for men range from 65.9/122 to 76.1/151. This course is as difficult as the course and slope ratings indicate. The combination of forced carries, undulating terrain, large elevation changes, mounding, and minimum off-fairway forgiveness make it easy to get in trouble and stay in it. Come prepared to play or prepared to take a lot of drops and forget the scorecard. The course itself features elevation changes ranging from the small to the massive, as is to be expected at a mountain course. Most holes will have a notable uphill or downhill component with a few playing both uphill and downhill. There are a few holes that are relatively level. As is also typical of mountain courses, there are many long forced carries off the tee, particularly from the back tees. The fairway width typically ranges from wide to very wide, though there are a handful of holes where the fairway is of modest width. Generally, there is little margin for error if the fairway is missed. Some holes do have a fair amount of clean rough between the fairway and the woods or brush, but many holes have little to none. Balls landing in the woods or brush have a very high chance of being lost. On a few holes, out of bounds is located very close to the edge of the fairway. The fairways are undulating and peppered with mounds and large slopes, with most fairways throw in a fairway bunker or two for good measure. On most holes, the direction of play from tee to green is obvious. There are one or two holes with a blind tee shot. There are a few holes where the second shot may be a blind shot depending on where the tee shot comes to rest. On a few holes the direction of play from tee to green is unclear when in the tee box, though the landing area for the tee shot is visible. While there are some water hazards on the course, there are only a few holes where water hazards are a major factor. The greens are very large and well guarded with bunkers and mounding. Many greens are situated well above the fairway, requiring an extra club or two for the distance. The greens have a lot of slope and undulations. Some of the greens with larger slopes make it difficult to stop the ball near the hole if you are on the "wrong side" of the slope. The bottom of some of the green-side bunkers is well below the surface of the green, perhaps 15 feet, if not more. Surprisingly, the course only has a few holes with really good views of the surrounding area. Most of the time your view is blocked by trees. The back tees have the best views by far. If you are playing from one of the forward tees, be sure to take in the view as you pass by the back tees and be ready to stop and snap a photo when a good view appears. A couple of the fairways offer good views as well. You'll want your camera (and nerves) ready at the par 3 #17. My overall rating is 4* because the course had some rough spots on it. I saw a couple of tee boxes that I'd expect to see at 2* course and a few greens with conditioning closer to what I see at a 3* course. The fairway conditioning was close to 5*. Perhaps due to the inclement weather the day I played, the bunkers had not been raked by the course staff and in a few of the bunkers the previous golfers had not raked their own footprints smooth. Overall, I would play this course again and recommend the course to other golfers.

We were greeted by a woman who gave us some good recommendations. However once she poured the wine on the carafe, we were not given wine glasses to pour them in. As a first timer, we just thought we were supposed to drink from those. It was only until a very nice lady who works there walked by and asked us where our glasses were. We said we were not given any. She went inside and got us two wine glasses with a little bag of oyster crackers each. It was a lovely day! Can't wait to come with my friends and family.

Even though they were closed the day I drove by, I couldn't resist heading up just to take a peek. The 1.5 miles from the paved road is a slow, winding dirt and gravel road with heavy gravel, bumpy pockets, and some steep sections. I drive a VW Jetta (a regular four-door sedan), and it was no easy feat--definitely took a beating. It took me about 20-25 minutes to reach the top at a careful pace. I've seen reviews saying it's manageable in a car, but I'd strongly caution anyone with a low-clearance or smaller vehicle: this road is rougher than it sounds. Once I made it to the gate, I parked and walked around. Wow--what a breathtaking, almost magical spot! The panoramic mountain views are incredible, and the whole setting feels like a hidden gem high up on the ridge. I'd love to come back when they're open for a proper tasting and to enjoy the views with a glass of wine. Next time, though, I'll be sure to bring a vehicle with better ground clearance--something like a small SUV, truck, or 4WD. Totally worth the adventure, but be prepared for the terrain!
