This is a great great place to get a TRUE Key West souvenir that is actually useful and made right in Key West unlike most other Made in China junk. The price is just right for the quality and real leather sandals. The employees looked happy to be working there and proudly told me they had been in business since 1966, making this year their 48th year making excellent Key Western sandals! The store smelled heavenly of fresh leather like you'd get at real country boot store. There are a great variety put out on display and some that I saw online weren't available because apparently, they switch styles out as soon there's a demand for them again. I bought a blue pair as the gold pair in my size was already gone, but I will definitely come back and get more pairs as I wear flip flops year round here in Florida. Love it! read more

When you're looking for that perfect Key West item that you want to actually use this is place, and I know that tank top you got is pretty sweet too but you won't wear that on a regular basis like I do with my Kinos. On top of all it they're an actual local business that makes the product right in front of you, not another junk filled gift shop with a butt load of items made in the center of the earth by a bunch of gnomes. We loved being able to walk right into a piece of history. It is very clean and the service is great. Shoe bins are lined up behind the counter full of what is n stock and the countertop displays all the style options. You can find something for women, men, children, big feet, little feet! The shop is really a small factory with a counter added to indulge the dozens, if not hundreds, of shoppers who stop by to purchase a pair of the legendary Kino sandals. For something so simple, they are surprisingly stylish. They also make purses and wallets. Be sure to listen to the help behind the counter when it comes to sizing, since Kino sandals don't run according to traditional sizes. A man's size 9 required a size 10 sandal and a size 10 needed a size 12. Who knows what that's all about, but they know what they're talking about. I bought a pair as a birthday present for a friend who pined for Kino sandals from the days when he lived in Miami and made quickie weekend runs to Key West. This place is a must see when you are in Key West. Kino sandals make the best gifts for you, your friends and family. The website doesn't do the sandals justice and there are WAY more colors to choose from in the store. If you are a Florida Gator fan they have amazing orange and blue sandals. Sandals run from $13-$16 and are really comfortable. I have heard they last for years and I both 5 different pairs for gifts and myself while I was there. The store doesn't look pretty on the outside and its kinda like a warehouse/factory feel inside (they make the sandals there) but not be turned off by the looks of the place, it's definitely a diamond in the rough. read more

I am loving my gold Kino's! For the price and quality, these are great locally made sandals. Stopped in here on my visit to Key West and at first I saw the warehouse-looking shop and the crowd of people and decided to leave. This shop is located a block off Duval, in a weird square with some other shops and some sketchy looking people hanging around. An odd lady randomly approached and asked me to buy a bag from her and I just booked it out of there, deciding I didn't want to deal with it. When I saw my sister's sandals, I decided to head back and check it out. The sandals are on display on a long counter and you just tell the employee what size you want and they get them from behind the counter. Picture a deli counter but with no number system, so you have to flag someone down. Luckily when I went back it wasn't too crowded so I didn't have to wait long. There isn't a huge selection, maybe three different types of sandals for women but in different color schemes. I went with the traditional style, in gold. They are sized a little larger and there are no half sizes so I went with a size 8 (I normally wear 8.5), and while the top strap felt a little tight, the sole was the right size so I went with it. Happily, they have stretched out a touch to be the most comfortable sandals I own now. Coming from a daily flip-flop wearing Floridian, that says a lot! read more

I've been coming here since high school. The $9.00 sandals are now $12.00, but it's still a bargain - especially when you consider I still have 5+ year old sandals from here that are still kicking. Still a small shop and you can see them making the sandals right in front of you - no mystery here and it's fun to watch. Everyone wore these when I was in high school, and I didn't develop a fondness for them until I moved away from Key West. Now, I love them and I tell anyone who happens to mention they are visiting Key West to stop in a get a pair. Several of my friends have developed an addiction to them; I received an email just today asking if I was in need of a new pair while a friend would be down visiting for LobsterFest next week. They are comfortable, durable (they last FOREVER), and great conversation starters when you are wearing them and run into someone else who is as well. The store is small and usually very busy and somewhat chaotic, with a very long counter spanning the store and separating the customers from the staff....similar to a bar, and you're a customer waiting to grab a spot and catch the attention of the bartender; and everyone there is from out of town and don't know what they want. It's also open air, and there is no air conditioning...so you don't want to spend a lot of time in there. read more

This store was recommended to me when I visited Key West. I've never been a big sandal fan because the ones I had tried previously were always uncomfortable in some way. Well, I bought a pair at Kino sandals not really expecting much. Turned out they were by far the most comfortable sandals I've ever bought! I can't rave about them enough. And the price was great. Apparently there is something to be said for making them by hand like they do. When you visit the store and look around, just hang around until someone helps you as it can be busy. Kino is a Key West staple. The sandals are handmade, will last forever and are so affordable. My favorite are $11 sandals that I have in every color they've ever made and some colors I own 2 pairs. These are not the shoes to wear if you're looking for something to give you support but these are cute, go with lots of stuff and when you live here in the south, you can get away with wearing these just about all year long. The ladies in the shop are helpful but they move fast! Got to grab one when you see her free! They take credit cards now which is helpful and I just found out they open on Sundays now! The wife had been telling me on our trip down that she needed to pick up some Kino sandals for her and her friends, and raved about the style, comfort, and look of the sandals. I had never heard of it, but apparently they're world famous. This place was PACKED when we got there. There were about 10 women at the counter, and 3 men sitting down in the chairs near the entrance. They have a few different styles, but in a ton of different colors and sizes. Unfortunately, they only have 2 women selling the sandals, so they're trying to take care of everyone, walking around grabbing different sandals, trying to get everyone in and out as quickly as possible, but it did get a little aggravating watching people who knew what they wanted having to wait while certain women debated over styles and asking ridiculous questions. Be patient, and you'll walk away happy. They had a few men's styles, but I'm not a sandal guy, so I didn't purchase anything, although they did have some cool looking styles, as well as some nice wallets. I was fascinated watching them hand make the sandals in the back of the shop, it was pretty impressive. They make the sandals right there, then bring 'em to the front of the shop ready to sell. Nice craftsmanship, and nice looking sandals. The wife ended up buying about 10 pairs, for her, family, and friends. Only $12 a pair, which is a pretty good deal if you ask me. She loves them, her friends love them, I guess all women love them. It's a bit hard to find this place, it's right off Duval, and looks like it's in a somewhat sketchy plaza, but it's a cool little shop, and definitely worth stopping in for a peek, especially if you're looking for some sandals. We went on a cruise about 5 or six years ago and one of the stops was Key West, we made in to this little sandal shop and my wife wanted to buy a pair, which she did. I'm checking them out and decided to buy a pair. They remind me of Roman sandals, a little feminine looking actually, I wear around the house, never in public, but these things are super comfortable and they are still going strong.
