Very fun store to visit in Key West ... Mel Fisher, who found the largest shipwreck treasures ever, since celebrated on Johnny Carson back in the day ... the worker we talked to was steeped in the lore of Fisher's hunt for and eventual discovery of the shipwrecks... salvage operations continue to the day... gold, silver, gemstones, etc., all still coming up from the wrecks! Since i've been a child i've always wanted a real Atotcha coin as a pendant (my father had one) - After 15+ years of wanting one I finally arrived in Key West and the store was first on my list. I know most larger reales aren't cheap so I didn't have expectations to buy. Found a lower grade 8 reale & pulled the trigger. This is a late review!! I purchased from Skip El Cazador pendant from this store a couple of years ago and had high expectations for the quality, especially since I was told it featured 14k gold holding the coin. However, last year I noticed the gold around the coin had turned brownish, which was concerning. I contacted the store, shared photos, receipts, and the certificate, and was told to send the pendant back for inspection. Skip the store's representative called me and explained that the gold was indeed 14k and that they had cleaned it with a yellow cloth, which they would send me. While I understand the coin might develop a patina over time, gold typically doesn't patina the way I observed. I was hoping for more transparency regarding the authenticity of the 14k gold, as my experience suggests it may not be genuine. I haven't been able to visit the Keys to address this in person yet, but I plan to do so this year. It's important for future customers to ask and feel confident that they're purchasing authentic 14k gold, and my experience has left me uncertain about that claim. He is a standout figure of the many stand-out figures of Key West and in many ways epitomizes the unique culture of Key West. It is here, in Mel Fisher's Treasures store that you may purchase pieces from Mel's treasure finds. Most of the items come from the Nuestra Senora de Atocha and the Santa Margarita, Spanish galleons that sank during a hurricane on September 6, 1622, off the coast of Key West and are certified as such. However, they also offer recreation items that look the same (no one would know) and will save you a small fortune. If you haven't read or heard the story of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha, you must. It's one of the greatest of all time. The store itself is really beautiful, well laid out with everything well marked and identified with a knowledgeable, polite staff. You may see locals on the street wearing Spanish coins on a chain around their neck, affectionately known as "Key West Dog Tags." It's a part of Key West that everybody wants to be a part of. Spent some delightful time in this store -- aided by the very knowledgeable sales person. She knew we weren't in the "buying" mode yet she lavished us with attention and information. She shared a couple of great anecdotes and pointed out the photographs that illustrated the information. She also explained how one coin was used by the owner back in the day to pay for a variety of goods and services. I am so sorry we did not ask her name or take a photo. We ventured into Mel Fisher's Treasures because I wanted an Atocha coin necklace as a keepsake from our trip to Key West. The sales lady behind the counter was unbelievably rude. She asked if I had ever heard the Mel Fisher story and when I said yes she loudly said "well which is it?! yes or no?" Taken aback by her rudeness, I just looked at her and said I said yes and just walked out. Bought from another store on Duvall that had authentic certified coins and the sales lady there was super friendly and helpful. read more

Unique products but I bought a Pieces of Four and chain, costing more than $3k. The chain clasp broke numerous times--causing many moments of panic before I found the necklace in my clothes or on the floor. We brought the necklace back and were told "this is easy to fix, just bend the clasp" then "we don't fix or replace chains, you have to go to a jewelry store." Buy the unique part, go to a real jeweler for the chain. read more

My late father bought a piece from here many years ago and it was found cleaning out some of his stuff from my basement. It was a coin from the atocha shipwreck. I could not find the certificate of authenticity which would mean its value would be considerably less. I contacted the museum curator Sandy and while she said they no longer re certify things they could buy back the piece at current retail price! Very honest and nice people and would recommend to anyone looking to invest in a piece of history. read more

Traveling from Texas to Key West due to an American treasure hero... Mel Fisher. Mel Fisher is what brought me to Key West after following him during his search for the Atocha and then the finding of the Atocha and the tragedy of the loss of his son and daughter in law. This was a truly American story. I found this shop of treasure by accident while walking. I had visited Mel Fisher's Treasure Museum in Sebastian Fla and visited the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum in Key West. This little shop had a lot of beautiful pieces but me being a poor fellow couldn't afford to purchase any of the beautiful pieces in this shop but felt so taken by the fact of getting to see them. I did buy a T-Shirt. Thank you so much to the family of Mel Fisher for letting us see the treasure. read more

What a great "educational" Stop. This a nice little museum dedicated to one mans life in pursuit of treasure. First off they have a Military Discount for all you Vets out there :D You can do the self guided tour and for I think two more bucks you can get the recording to listen to while you walk. We chose to forgo the recording. After about half thru the museum I was rooting for Mr. Fisher to find his treasure (even though I knew he had LOLOL). Which I think speaks well for the exhibits and history you learn here. There's a ten minute video that plays about half thru...basically its one of Mr. Fisher's sons briefly telling his father's story. The video itself is very dated quality wise but still interesting.It plays every 15 minutes. They have a standard gift shop filled with items you would expect but there is also a store in the back that sells ACTUAL pieces from Mr. Fishers finds...PRICEY but worth a browse at the minimum. read more
