Kirkcaldy train station had become pretty run down over the years but it has seen some big…read morealterations since then and it is looking its best these days. The new ticketing system has made the place safer too because you now need a ticket to produce before you even get through to the track edge and near the trains, this also stops people form getting on the trains then not paying. The kiosk has seen an overhaul too and is now bigger and stocks much more magazines, sweets and drinks for your trip. A great way to travel and a great station to depart from!

Price wise I believe is different depending on where you start. We alway stick to the return instead of one way. The station itself is pretty big. Lots of terminals so make sure to check the schedule to see where your train is at. Sometimes schedule changes so also be aware. There's a good amount of quick and easy eating places. Coffee shops as well. Right in the heart of the station, you'll find a couple of things to do. Mainly grab a drink if your waiting for your train.... lol... There alway security on hand if you have any questions about anything. The stations where you get on and off the train is pretty long so it could be a walk to exit if you're coming off from the end of train. It's a couple of flights on the escalator till you reach the top. There's an indoor waiting area as well as public restrooms. But if it's your first time, it could be a little intimidating finding your way around. Also a few different ways to enter and exit.

There's a small waiting room posted in between the main entrance and the restrooms. They have the usual pamphlets and such for those visiting the area. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the station itself. We were on a tight timeline to walk to Belhaven, and when we returned, we slipped in the front door and kept walking right onto the outbound train. We did stop long enough to notice that it's a clean station, and that the employees we encountered were friendly and helpful for those who had questions along the way.

This is the dismal, deserted station that is the stop for all those travelling to St Andrews. There…read moreare platforms in either direction and a small waiting room for those like me on my last trip who had missed the train to Edinburgh by one minute since the bus from St Andrews wasn't timed properly to get us there for the train. Therefore, I had to wait 30 min for the next train, which them proceeded to be a slow 1 1/2 hour train to Edinburgh instead of the 50 minute train. Sad day! I was waylaid at the Leuchars station like a beached whale unable to do anything. In short, it's rediculous that St Andrews doesn't have its own station and the Leuchars station is a rather pathetic one.

Dunkeld train station is an unmanned train station. There are no facilities available, tickets are…read moreonly available on the train. That's is a designated smoking area and a shelter if its windy or raining. There is no disabled access and the platform is a lot lower than any train station that l have ever seen so caution when boarding or exiting the train. At the end of the road there is no taxi rank, l did observe a bus stop but the busses don't run that frequent.

Pretty basic little spot but it's tidy, the folks are nice and it's got a wee little charity book…read moreshop. It wasn't open mind you, but I appreciate the thought - especially at a place that is so bare to begin with. Gotta love a little surprise bookworm find! There are no snackables or coffee to be had, so if you've got an early morning train to catch, grab something in town before you head over.
