Eureka. Drive to Mt Gravatt and am greeted by beautiful fresh Barramundi fish wings. Also buy a few fillets of salmon, and cherry & beetroot cured salmon. (FYI: the later goes so well in an omelette). If you're new to cooking seafood or just like to learn more, each of their product shelf talkers have a guide to "how best to cook" each piece of seafood. Get talking to Neil about fish catching practices and see the difference between a fish caught via netting and that caught by tunnel netting. Suitably impressed, my fish wings and I head home to try and recreate the Cho Cho San recipe. To be fair, the fish I purchased was not labelled as sashimi-quality tuna. It's just that I've often purchased non sashimi quality tuna or salmon from fishmongers and had no problems serving it up as sashimi. It all depends on the freshness of the fish of course and the stoicism of your stomach. The Fish Depot doubles up as a fish and chipper and a fresh seafood supplier. I don't usually come here for fresh seafood as I find their range limited - they don't do fish heads but they do have salmon tail but who uses salmon tail to make fish stock? Plus, I just don't find their seafood as fresh as elsewhere and I don't mean just for sashimi. I do come here though for my fish and chips. They give a generous portion of chips which is never mushy and their grilled fish are perfectly cooked. So go fish elsewhere if you're after fresh seafood supplies but be prepared to get hooked on their fish and chips.

On any given day, they have salmon, breams, tailors, rainbow trouts, shell fish (imported and caught locally) and Moreton bay bugs. They also sell sashimi grade tuna.
