The first thing I spotted outside, which I was really excited about was a Little Free Library book shed, which I know from when I lived in America. It is a book exchange; take a book, leave a book, book swap! I was very impressed to find one there! We had booked a table in advance, which I would probably recommend to avoid disappointment as there aren't many tables, but you can also eat outside. The decor is really nice and very fitting for a tea room. We were shown to our table straight away and the staff were really nice. We decided to order sandwiches and some cake, but they do afternoon tea and ice cream as well. Between us we ordered a bottle of prosecco and I shared a sandwich with a fellow diner, and was glad I did as otherwise I wouldn't have been able to fit in my cake! I went for the Wensleydale cheese and caramelised onion sandwich. Which was really nice! It might have been a bit cheesy had I had both parts of the sandwich. It also came with a nice side salad. For dessert there was lots of choice, including Victoria sandwich, coffee and walnut and lemon cake. I went for the New York cheesecake with strawberry. The cheesecake was delicious! Next time I would like to try the ice cream from Sargent's to see if it is as good as what I remember from when I was young! I can't wait to go back to the tearoom and try something different and next time I will take a book for the library! I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Mothers Day Surprise!…read more We wanted to take the Mothers somewhere nice and out of town and had seen The Garden Kitchen had been visited by a number of our friends and family on Facebook, all giving great reviews and I can see why! We arrived for final service at 6pm and as you can imagine it was very busy on Mothers Day. The maître d' came straight over to us to let us know how long it would be until we were seated and continuously gave us progress updates. Whilst waiting we perused the small shop of local produce, had a drink and soaked up our surroundings. The Tea Room is a new addition to Holden Clough Nursery being built in the last few years, but looks like it should have always been there! It is beautiful and sympathetically designed to its surroundings. So, the food....WOW! I'd seen pictures but when our Afternoon Tea arrived on a mini picnic bench I felt like clapping!! (In fact, I think I did!!) Such a great idea and adds a little bit of originality and quirkiness to your experience. Everything on my picnic bench was delicious. The Mushroom soup was silky, creamy and full of flavour. The mini Roast Beef Dinner served in an individual yorkshire pudding was beautiful and of course came with a little jug of gravy and beef was tender and pink. The scone was fresh and light with jam that had just the right sweetness and fruit mix. My other main highlight was the Rocky Road, I'm not usually a fan because its too rich and sweet but O-M-G this was amazing. I still find myself thinking about it now two days on. The chocolate melts in your mouth to find small nuggets of biscuit and mini marshmallows.....all washed down with a great cup of coffee. John & Kate who own and run The Garden Kitchen have done a fanstastic job transforming Holden Clough Nursery over the last few years. The service, quality of food and surroundings are 10/10. I went with my mum, sister and partner for the Valentine's afternoon tea, it was great it was so different from traditional afternoon tea you got soup in a tea cup, two open top sandwiches and a mini quiche which was a nice change from just sandwiches. The cakes you got was a scone. A mini red velvet cake, a heart biscuit, marshmallows with chocolate, profiterole with white chocolate and a mini love potion in a glass boot. After having a good mooch around these, we arrived at Jameson's, which greets you with a suitably old fashioned look and feel. Staff are smart- male staff wear bow ties (but not necessarily black or white), there is a huge selection of cakes on the counter and it really looks like a 'proper' tea room if you know what I mean. We had an afternoon tea- they have a few varieties but all based around sandwiches, scones and cake. The traditional version allows you to choose only one sandwich filling but the others provide four, plus other additions. I had the traditional, plus a mini bottle of prosecco and my sister had the Splendid, which had a range of sandwiches (cucumber and Brie, prawn, ham and mustard and something else). It was presented beautifully and I loved the mismatched crockery. You get four finger sandwiches, one large scone with jam and cream (or curd with the Splendid)- we could choose from plain, fruit or chocolate orange, and you can choose your cake from the selection on the counter. These are generally sponges and loaf type cakes rather than dainties. The tea selection was great and additionally there are several kinds of champagne and prosecco on the menu, but only served by the bottle (!). There are three mini 20cl proseccos if you just want a glass. As usual after the scone I couldn't actually manage any of my raspberry and white chocolate Victoria sponge, but it was packaged up for us to take home. Staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful, food was great and the menu seemed good value- the most expensive afternoon tea is £80 for two but includes a whole bottle of their £50 Pol Roget Champagne plus all the best cakes and sandwiches. Maybe another time... Jameson's is well set up for small children with wipes and other useful things in the loo (which has a changing mat), plus several high chairs tucked around the corner.

Whilst they don't serve breakfast per se there were breakfasty things on the menu they offered to make scrambled eggs for my other half who was craving eggs... So he had eggs and beans on toasty and I had cheese on toast, with tea and a mocha... Everything was delicious and a great price... We will definitely be back and will recommend to all friends and family!
