It distressed me to see only one review on Yelp and it be so scathing. As for "professional, gentle painters," I just had what I thought to be one of those do some exterior work on my home. He actually stated before he began my project that he was "more of a perfectionist than I." I would love to have a picture of his face when I questioned the basis for his statement. Gentle and professional as he can't or may not be, I can now confidently demonstrate with examples the inaccuracy of his claim. In the past, my wife has had painting done in our home. It is my opinion that many residential spreaders of paint should advertise as such and refrain from the noble title of painter. I'm sticking with Budeke's and either hiring a profession, or applying quality product acquired from them myself.

The designer was not detail oriented when it came to measurements and selection. I felt I had to handle the design myself and document my own measurements and selections. Responsiveness was sketchy at best. I had some damaged product which resulted in months of delays (not Mill Valleys fault) BUT they should have advised me to open ALL cabinet boxes and inspect thoroughly instead of only opening fronts. I was disappointed in the Candlelight product, but that's another story. If you want a company to handle all aspects of your kitchen remodel then this is NOT the place to go. You can save some money here (on cabinets) but in my experience the savings was not worth it.

About 3 years ago we remodeled our kitchen blowing out a wall for more of an open concept. We…read moreneeded a very large granite island, flooring,appliance garages, built in banquette, and new appliances- stove oven refrigerator microwave. We wanted a simple but very high quality look for a country stone farm house.. Mill Valley showed us white full inset shaker style cabinetry from two of its semi-custom brands. We chose one which was great but saved us $10,000 compared to the highest end line they carry. It was a very long process given everything we had to do and delays with our contractor. But they were very patient and went with us to other places to help pick everything out, even though they weren't selling us the flooring, and appliances. They were also very helpful with the counters, which they don't make either. We went to two different places and learned a lot about surfaces. Ultimately we went back to granite, and we learned you have to be picky because some granite is more beautiful and marbleized than others, and most folks get tired of moving slabs around so you can cherry pick their best stuff. I would definitely recommend Mill Valley if you want a very high end kitchen at a reasonable price.

I'm still angry…read more Here's the story (it's a little long so grab a beer or whatever your favorite sipping beverage is): On Friday, July 17th I went into Van Dorn's Kingsville location and spoke with Marty. I found him to be a very nice man. We spoke for about 10 minutes and he gave me a quote for two different above ground pools. He told me that since I walked in the store, vs calling or messaging online, I was eligible for a free site survey. He asked me if I'd like that and I told him for free..sure! He told me he'd have his site survey man, Charles, contact me. I thanked him for his time and left. On Monday, July 20, a man with a safety vest was walking all over my property. I went outside to find out who this person was....he was from Miss Utility. He informed me he was there because he was told I was purchasing a pool from Van Dorn pools and he had to check out where they were going to dig before they put the pool in. I informed him I was not buying a pool from Van Dorn pools and I asked him what made him think that I was. He told me "Dave" told Miss Utility was buying a pool from them. He grimaced and left, his time and Miss Utility's time, obviously wasted. I called the Kingsville office immediately and ended up giving Chris, their chemical analyst, an earful. I informed him that, in addition to dealing with this strangeness, I had a giant tree fall on my house a few weeks ago and I didn't have time for more stuff to deal with. After being told Marty was off and not back until Thursday. I then decided to locate the owner of the company, Chuck Stafford, this is a small family owned company. I called their Reisterstown store and spoke with Jim, a salesman like Marty. I told him the story and he was aghast. He said that something obviously went pretty wrong in Kingsville and he'd try to get a hold of Chuck. Jim from the Reisterstown store is interested in customer service. Its important to note at this point, I'm stunned at the audacity of the folks up in Kingsville to assume after a 10 minute conversation I was actually spending thousands of dollars with them. Again, stunned and laughing at the absurdity was where I was. A few minutes later, I got a phone call from Dave. Dave is Marty's manager in Kingsville. We didn't even exchange pleasantries, nor was Dave interested in what happened. I asked him if he'd like to know why I originally called and he indicated that he was not interested in why I called, he was only interested in knowing whether I wanted to do business with them or not. I told him no, I was not, he then hung up on me. I once again called Jim at the Reisterstown store who was either truly horrified or pretending to be horrified...I'd very much like to believe it's the former. He assured me he'd try and get a hold of the owner. It's been 3 days and no call from anyone at Van Dorn. I have read some wonderful things about this company and I really hope that I am an example of a chain of events that don't usually happen and went horribly wrong. I've told a number of people about this so far and we all find the situation obnoxiously laughable. Seriously, shame on you Van Dorn.

I do not recommend this company. They do not value your…read moretime, and the entire experience was a frustrating waste of mine. First, I was required to drive over an hour to their showroom for a completely unnecessary appointment--just to be shown pool options that could have easily been reviewed at home via email or a catalog. After that unproductive meeting, I was told someone needed to come out to evaluate my property. I rearranged my work schedule for this appointment, which was set between 7:30-8:30 AM. No one showed up. I received a voicemail at 8:30 saying he would now likely arrive between 10:30-11:30. That's a 3-4 hour delay with no prior notice. Since I had to be at work by 11, I called him back to say that wouldn't work. When I reached out to the owner to express my frustration, he was dismissive and rude, downplaying the situation by saying the rep was "just going to be a little late." A four-hour delay is not a minor inconvenience--especially after I changed my work schedule to accommodate them. This company clearly lacks professionalism and respect for clients' time. I would look elsewhere.

Here are my thoughts based on my experience…read morein dealing with her and this this company: 1 - Susan won't be fired because indifference to customers appears to be the company standard. 2 - Chuck Gray is no better. I requested a call back--nothing. Silence. I can't wait for his reply to this review! 3 - The experience: Susan quoted me $125/hour and $200 for a site visit to measure for a deck and patio plan. She arrived late, spent roughly an hour measuring, and then demanded $600. The neighborhood must've given her the impression that she could pull that off. When I politely questioned this by email, she never responded. She charged my card anyway and then ignored four weeks of emails and calls--except for the one time I called from a different number. 4 - The core issues: * Deceptive pricing - quoting one rate, charging another. * Zero communication - after taking payment, there was no progress, no updates, nothing. This is not just poor service; it's a pattern of unethical business practices. In my opinion, Susan had no intention of completing the project. 5 - I am filing formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Maryland State Attorney's Consumer Protection Division. I strongly encourage others with similar experiences to do the same. Companies like this only change when they are forced to.

The real estate agent recommended this place and when we stopped by, it was not what I had expected. It is a little bit organized in terms of dining room tables might be here, and bedroom furniture might be there, but you are definitely searching around in a barn for things, and it's packed tight. My mom actually did find a Christmas caroling doll that she purchased, but then we went outside and purchased some vegetable plants, herbs, and flowers. Fast-forward about a month and the flowers are exploding. They are healthy and colorful... Way better than anything I've ever purchased at, big box stores or national chains. I'm not sure how the prices of the plants compared, they were probably equivalent to the same prices that we would've spent, but they are remarkably healthy and beautiful. And I wasn't so sure about them when we purchased them and when I was planting them. So my mind is changed, we will definitely continue going there for flowers. and, I will probably poke around in the barn to see if there's anything interesting.
