We traveled to New Mexico from Wisconsin on vacation. We always seek out the small local coffee shops when we travel. This coffee shop is well worth the few blocks from the nearest Starbucks. I had the skinny Salted caramel latte and my husband had regular salted caramel. The caramel they make in-house and is fantastic!! Our daughter had a strawberry smoothie that was also delicious. This place is an easy 5 star spot. I'm from San Diego California and I have been to a lot of coffee shops. This coffee shop by far is the best one that I have ever been to. Everything about this place screams fresh, from the ice cream, to the baked goods, and of course their coffee. This place does everything right. Nice cozy atmosphere, love the decor. For a place that had minimum seven people working behind the counter and who knows how many more in the back the service was terrible. The order taker was nice but slow and the girl who brought us our food, which was incorrect, was borderline rude when I pointed out the errors. Got our food long before they brought us our drinks which were just two fountain drinks, not the specialty coffee drinks they must specialize in. In a time where prices are consistently on the rise, this place is pricier than expected for sandwiches. Paid nearly thirty dollars for a blt on a roll the size of a small hamburger bun, a 'bowl' of soup that came in a tiny styrofoam cup, two cookies and two soft drinks. I wouldn't mind paying the price if the sandwich had had more than two strips of burnt bacon on it. They can definitely do better. read more

Food is good! Home made bread and great quality ingredients. Only downside is they do not stir their flavored teas. Ordered a coconut tea and upon first drink, I got a mouth full of syrup. Then after that first drink, there was no syrup in my tea to stir up. So I essentially had an unflavored tea at that point. Really kind of disappointing. How hard is it to stir a drink? I want so much to give this place 5 stars but I just can't. We needed a quick bite before a meeting and chose Kith + Kin because they open at 7 AM. We both ordered breakfast sandwiches (which are build-your-own) but they were out of bacon!?! No worries, we chose other meats and were both happy. I'm generally not a big fan of sausage but after tasting their house made version on my husband's sandwich, wished I'd ordered it instead of the ham on mine. The drinks were another matter. He asked for a large soda, easy on the ice. They filled the cup with ice to the top so, of course, a few minutes later, he needed a refill. This time the machine was was out of syrup and we had to wait for them to change it. He literally grabbed his drink on the way out the door, well after his sandwich was gone. I ordered a medium decaf and was asked if I wanted a latte. Huh? No, just coffee, no milk. She told me she could make me an Americano (watered down espresso) so I said, "Fine, as long as it's decaf." It tasted like watered down coffee. As we sat down to eat in this cute, trendy place, I noticed some vacuum pots of coffee on the counter, which patrons helped themselves to, and wondered why she didn't just steer me to one of those. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. Maybe the staff needs more training. Maybe next time I'll order tea, instead of coffee. And maybe next time I can give them 5 stars. read more

What a joke. The girl asks if I want a small or large cup. I recalled day before the bulls are actually shaped like cups which is fine. Then she asked if I wanted to go for to stay I said to go. I also get a cup of coffee and a slice of bread all for $5.50 and it turns out that a bowl of soup is about 3 oz it's in a little styrofoam cup with a lid roughly an inch and a half tall 2 in in diameter. The food and drinks are great! Some of the best in town. But regardless of how great the product is, I won't be returning due to the lack of simple, basic customer service these employees possess. the girl at the counter was taking a to go order over the phone, and when the customer asked what kind of bread they offered she said "what do you mean? We have like white bread, wheat bread..what do you want?" And then proceeded to laugh at the customer on the phone with another employee there, ALL WHILE THERE IS A LINE OF PEOPLE WATCHING THEM ACT THIS WAY. This is a really cute mom and pop coffee/cafe place right in the heart of this small town, Artesia. I'm in town just for the day and was looking for a nearby starbucks to get some work done, yet this place popped up so I said why not I'm always down to try something new! When you come you must try their house brewed New Orleans cold brew, the girl sold me on the fact that it wasn't as watered down which means more caffeine. I ordered a custom sandwich with ciabatta bread, honey ham and green chili for my main ingredients. It small was an average size, but something you'd except for a local cafe, fresh ingredients and freshly made. The cafe has a darker corner for more private eating or getting work done versus the other side next to The windows for more lighting and a view of the town. Very pleased with my experience here and when I come back I'll make sure to stop by for my fix of New Orleans cold brew. read more

I had been looking forward to trying this place for a long time, when I finally got a chance it was pretty disappointing.. The coffee has an odd taste that I can't pin down. I ordered an egg nog latte as a Christmas treat and the drink just tasted like nog that's gone bad. The staff was also not very friendly ( talking amongst themselves, you feel like you're butting in just by being there.) One person asked how I wanted my drink made; which would be a nice thing, except I've never been a barista so how tf would I know how the drink should be made?? The gal gave me a scalding cup and when I asked for a sleeve she told me they had none, but then did offer to double cup.. I'll preface this comment by saying I am a regular at the Jahva House. I'm in 3 or 4 times a week for a triple vanilla latte. The coffee is great & they know my order when I walk in the door, which is a huge plus! I eat there a few times a month, usually order the same thing (I'm a creature of habit), typically the rueben sandwich. Which I love! Their chips are also super good! The atmosphere is nice, occasionally I bring my laptop in and work a bit. It's nice, quiet and relaxed. I can't remember ever going in that there wasn't someone one a computer. The wifi is fast and also there are outlets available to plug into for power. Whether you're an Artesian or just passing through, a stop at the Jahva House is a must! Ooh, & they do catering also! This cafe was kind of strange... It serves as a one stop shop for the town: ice cream, deli, coffee. Sandwiches and salads looked pretty good, but food service stopped at 3pm, so I missed out. At first upon walking in I thought it seems pretty cute and a NM version of a Brooklyn cafe... Until I noticed the number of crosses blanketing every wall and the Christian rock music in the background. Jesus fish and "faith" carvings loomed over my barista, at my table, and on the pile of literature at the register. At first I felt affronted. But instead, I decided to think of it as the Christian version of my local kosher deli or halal Chinese food restaurant. Christian coffee? Why not. Religious pondering aside, I ordered some ice cream and a coffee. My ice cream was freezer burned, so I ate half and tossed it. The coffee is self service, and the dark roast canister emptied half way through my pour, so I topped off with regular. The coffee was okay but was definitely the lingering batch from early in the afternoon or late morning. When I went to pour my milk, the skim canister was empty so I settled for the half and half. I didn't get anything to test their espresso or ability to froth a nice cappuccino. The doldrums of the afternoon can be a bad time to hit a coffee shop, but I wasn't left overly impressed. Nonetheless, if you want to kick back on a couch with a hot mug and a good book, this would be the place to do it in Artesia. read more

Where to begin with this place... Decor: so we all know that this is the Bible Belt (well, sort of) but this place wants to shout it from the rooftops! Crosses, verses and bibles everywhere. Go get coffee and be saved, should you desire. I'm already saved and confident in my religion...I also believe there's a time & place to push this type of thing. So there's this area where you can buy choc covered espresso beans and tea by the pound. It never changes and I wonder how old that stuff is? We like the homey feel of the leather seating area, but you can't get over there during the week days because the two tables nearby are used for some sort of little laptops open meeting and they move the tables blocking entry to that seating. We've tried to sit outside several times but it's usually very dirty from weather and no upkeep and the tables are wobbly. The trash outside is always full with bees buzzing. It's a shame really, since the music outside is nice and the area could be so much better with a little maintenance, daily cleaning and umbrellas. The owner always seems overwhelmed and scattered. He's eye candy to pretty much every woman in town...too bad he doesn't recognize this and act a bit sweeter. They are the only coffee shop in town and need more staff. Usually out of supplies at the coffee condiment area and service is slow. Good food though, if you have time to wait. read more

Zia latte was a nice change from my regular coffee. Not overly sweet, which I appreciate. Americano was on-point. We always stop when we're passing through and always appreciate that they're open late. Would leave 5 stars, but they had a strange odor. Like, sewer smell. I'm visiting family in the area and don't live around here. So, I can't speak to what this coffee shop is like day in and day out. I've only been to the Jahva House once before and I don't remember much about it, other than that it's a welcoming, spacious place. Today, however, I'm sitting at one of their big tables, working on my laptop, sipping a piping hot caramel macchiato and I'm impressed enough to write a review. Artesians, let me tell you that the Jahva House's policy on espresso shots is VERY generous. This is a selling point. I ordered a 12 oz. espresso-based drink (caramel macchiato - of the Starbucks type, which is, vanilla latte with caramel drizzle) and thought I'd be paying extra to get a third shot of espresso. Instead, I was told that up to three shots would be included. That's fabulous! So, I get a strong, tasty drink, without having to pay extra. Additionally, it's got a great flavor. And the storefront has well-spaced, sturdy tables, perfect for writing, studying, meeting, etc. That's a major plus in my book. Free Wi-fi. Another plus. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious area inside The Jahva House and the service, but was rather disappointed by the food I received. I had walked to the restaurant and didn't check my food prior to leaving because I was on a phone call. When I got back to my office my sandwich was in complete disarray-which could have been related to the walk, but considering the care I took in transporting it back, seems doubtful. When I looked closer at the sandwich, there was only 4 slices of baby portables mushrooms, some sad and pathetic looking tomato, and the extra $1 I paid for guacamole spread could have been saved since there was almost none on the sandwich. The extra money I paid for the chips and pickle produced less than a serving of chips. The pickle was quite good however. Fortunately once I was able to reassemble this mess, the sandwich itself wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth the $9 I paid for it. read more

After standing in front of the cash register for about 5 minutes without even being acknowledged that we were in the building, one lady from behind the counter snapped over in a very rude and condensing tone "we have a long wait and won't get to you for twenty minutes " no good morning, no be right with you, just rude tone. There may have been 10 people inside the store. This is my second time inside Java house. The first experience was just as bad. Their customer service is horrible!
