Now it's called Bloody Mary -- I love everything about this spot. For starters, the live rock music is what drew me in. The band was fantastic and they played a mix of hip hop/rap hits during their breaks. I'm not sure if this band plays every night but the band that played on Tuesday, 7/18/23, rocked! We got the guacamole and split a burger. The burger had the most perfect char and cooked to perfection. For drinks, my husband had a few beers and I tried the Bloody Mary. It was delicious! I had a shot of Rumchata and my husband had a shot of Union Joven mezcal. We were surprised to find it it was served with sal de gusano, orange slices, and crickets!! This entire experience was all tied together with the amazing service from the staff. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt. 10/10 recommend! read more

Best spot on the "strip" For an original scene. Specialty bartenders, killer original music with mind blasting original tunes. Sure they played "wonder wall", the drunk guy anthem,,, but 2 smith songs?? Food? No idea but the word on the street is they try to be eclectic in everything. This place is cool as hell. We wanted someplace to just chill, drink and listen to music. Kitxen didn't disappoint. The 2 bands we saw (Monday, July 9) were great. The bartenders were friendly and seem to enjoy working there. It's not pretentious. In a sea of tourists (including us!), we felt a world away while here. We planned on just a few drinks then heading elsewhere but winded up spending our entire evening at Kixten, stumbling home around midnight. At some point, our bartender gave us each a complimentary shot of something sweet and delicious. Thank you, kind sir! Good times. Even the music that played while there was no live music is pretty bad ass. Got a Kitxen shirt, too. This is a bar. No food. Remember that...and to tip the musicians. Rock & Roll forever! read more

As I'm sure many are, we were drawn in to Kitxen during a tipsy stroll down 5th by the live classic rock cover band. They were playing Queen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Journey, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones and more great classic rock covers. We were singing along to every song, playing cards, and it was good times. We ordered drinks only, and they were expensive by Mexican standards, but cheap by US standards for similar quality. I had a great Amaretto sour with Disarrono and fresh sour mix. The others at my table enjoyed Caipirinhas, which were inconsistently mixed. One was strong, another weak. All seating was outdoor, and the chairs weren't super loungey, so it's not the kind of place you'll stay for hours, I wouldn't think. But overall, you'll get live music and good drinks, and I couldn't recommend a better way to spend an evening in Playa. read more

Prices are definitely reasonable! Ordered a round of cucaracha shots, which is coffee patron on fire that you sip up with a spoon. The server said he wouldn't pick up my shot unless it was finished, which I thought was friendly. Also, got two more rounds of Indio beers. We put kids to bed and wife and I headed out. When we were there, they had a live band that was quite good. They also had a happy hour with beers like XX, Sol, and Tecate for something like 25 pesos (around $1.25 US). At one point they gave us some free popcorn. Also good for some people watching as on 5th Avenue with volumes of people constantly going back and forth. Very much enjoyed and would return for some drinks if get back to Playa. read more

I've been to Playa del Carmen a few times and every time I stop by this great bar. The atmosphere is always buzzing and the live rock bands are a nice change from all the Latin music (which I still love!) Jonny and the rest of the staff were so much fun and the service is great!
