Fah is a fun place we went to for dinner one night in December. They had a band playing, which was playing some great music. I had one of kids tip the band at the end of their Pearl Jam cover. The drinks were good. Waitstaff was very responsive. We were shocked how fast the food came out. Tacos were amazing. We had beef, fish, and shrimp. Just 2 vs 3 but still so good. My daughter loved her wings. Prices were also reasonable. This is a great place for photos too. It's dark and loud but lively. So much energy. read more

Decided to have lunch and some day drinks with girlfriends this afternoon and headed to 5th for the Happy Hour menu at Fah. The service is good and the people watching fun. I appreciate that the Happy Hour menu includes both food and drink. Everything we ordered was solid-the Caesar salad was large with lots of chicken, the croquettes crispy on the outside and soft inside, the fries crispy and salty, the nachos and tacos good. A couple of drinks and more food than we can eat for less than 350 pesos per person (before tip) on 5th?! That works for me! read more

Food was great , tasty and well priced for happy hour. The margaritas were great too. Service was very slow and they kind of messed up one order, but we did not want to correct it. One of my favorite places to hang in PDC! Live music, sports, and good drinks! Drink prices are more than reasonable as is the food. I had a cheese burger the last time I visited which was OK. Plenty of food, but nothing to write home about. Staff are all friendly and the overall service is decent. Definitely a fun atmosphere and generally a slightly older crowd (which I can appreciate). Highly recommend a visit! read more

The best bar in playa! The live music is so great at this place. Now we never ate here but came for the nightlife. Every time we would stop for a drink and try to go to a new place we got sucked in by the amazing bartenders and bands. Pablo the manager- he is the best! So attentive and kind. The two bartenders we got to know so well we ended up going out with the manager and bartender one night to a local spot. This was one of the busier bars we spotted while walking along Playa del Carmen's Fifth Avenue. It is newer looking and very modern. The food options were Mexican and standard American bar food. We had some of their Tex-Mex style quesadillas, nachos and some other appetizers to enjoy with our drinks. The biggest positive of this place is that they have live music which gives the place a very cool vibe and fun atmosphere. Luckily for me, it was all rock music being played when I was here, but I am not sure if they do other genres on different nights. read more

We stopped at this bar for after dinner drinks and really enjoyed it. There is live music that makes it fun. The place was packed on a Friday night but service was pretty good anyway. We drank some beers and did some shots. My impression was that the $7 shot of Don Julio did not taste like Don Julio, maybe that explains the cheap price. The Celia imperial stout was more carbonated than usual and not nearly as strong. This was 5% ABV whereas imperial stout is usually 9-10%. I recommend the burger is the BEST I've had in Playa del Carmen, with the fries and corn/elote on the side to top it off Live music here is great however it can be a little too loud. We have eaten breakfast at Fah every morning of our honeymoon vacation and have enjoyed the servers and support crew as much as the very good breakfast! This place is, indeed. We stopped by here at the recommendation of the hotel manager. They are known for live music while you enjoy dinner. It was very loud but the music was fun. Our server came by only once and took our drink order and we had a margarita. It was quite good but then he just never came back so we didn't order anything else. If you are staying in Playa del Carmen near the 5th Ave area- and looking for live music in an open air spot- check out Fah. The atmosphere is cool but the service is lacking for sure. I cannot comment on the food since we didn't get to order any. read more

I came here every day on my 7 day vacation...they are that good. Every item on their menu, though it may look like your typical tavern menu, is put perfectly together, and not heavy on the stomach at all. Their fish tacos, and ahi tuna tostada are a MUST. But you can't go wrong with their Long Island iced teas either. Everything here is worth trying, and is really inexpensive for the quality of food you are getting. Fah was super fun. Located on the main 5ta Avenida, it's a great place to get some live music and people. The decor is cute and the musicians are spectacular. The music has many ranges of songs and were very entertaining. Staff was welcoming and gave us the special Mexican hospitality. Bravo! Lots of great food options and very vegan friendly. They are accommodating to vegetarians too. Drinks were also delicious. I would recommend Fah to anyone who wants a bit of night life without the crazy club scene. read more

Decent breakfast, no mimosas so that was sad hot cakes were good! The music playing (we went Friday around 10:15am) was 80s American rock played very loudly which wasn't quite our style - I think this was sort of the theme of the restaurant so just be aware ahead of time. Walking by today the music seemed tammer and more local so not sure if the rock is always played. Cute atmosphere and good service. read more

Nice place - we were here for lunch but it looks it is going to be much busier in the evening. So during lunch it like a cool outside restaurant with great PDC vibes and music. We had the 2 vegan sandwiches (no mayonnaise) and the were really good. The fries on the side was pretty small but still enough. I used to eat here every time I visited PDC, and I visit PDC very often. However, tonight I walked up with two friends, the hostess completely ignored us, and greeted the 4 people that walked up a few moments behind us. Now, I would hate to think she did that because they were Caucasian, and we were gay, Latino, and African-American. Either way, it was an awful and disrespectful action on her part, so I will never eat here again. Nor will I recommend it. Solía comer aquí cada vez que visitaba PDC, y visito PDC muy a menudo. Excellent food and great prices. I had a habanero margarita which was super smooth with just the right amount of heat. And my octopus and tuna tostadas tasted super fresh and were less than $3 each (with super fresh meat). I would recommend this place again...3 of us ate with full cadillac or heat margaritas for less than $15 each and that included tip. Great music and ambiance too. Not my favorite place, but definitely good. read more

Nice atmosphere with good service and an above average alcoholic beverage selection. We stopped in for a few drinks with friends to listen to some live music. The music was good (the "money slaves", I think the name was). Had a craft beer "English porter" that was very good, a pleasant surprise. Reasonable prices, good atmosphere and service, makes for a fun stop. read more

The entire restaurant, including the bar, is literally set in the sand, with tables right on the water just a few feet from the ocean. It's barefoot, toes in the sand dining done right, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. We did have one hiccup in the evening due to a rowdy group from a drone company that was extremely intoxicated and invasive of our space. Their belongings kept ending up on our table, and there were drunk men taking their shirts off and doing shots just a few feet away. Not sure if they didn't have enough tables or what, but we had made a reservation to celebrate a special event months in advanced, so it was a bit irritating. The servers eventually handled it and intervened multiple times, but at no point were they asked to move or relocate. Once that group settled down, the night became a much more enjoyable experience. We were a party of 12, and every single person raved about both their food and drinks. For drinks we had: Prickly Pear: Made with Orange Blossom Condesa Gin, St Germain, fresh lemon juice, rosemary syrup, mint, and strawberry. Bright and refreshing, though it came with more foam on top than expected. Coco Loco: A fresh whole coconut with Patrón Silver tequila, vodka, rum, gin, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. A true showstopper. Don't be intimidated by the mix of liquor, it is smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. No hangovers were had. Espresso Martini: Simple and clean with a light foam. Well executed, but not a signature cocktail compared to the others. For food we had: We were surprised with an amuse bouche of huitlacoche, often called Mexican truffle. It's a corn fungus with a rich, earthy flavor and this small bite was outstanding and set the tone for the meal. Queso Fundido: Oaxaca cheese with chorizo and flour tortillas. Great flavor, but very thick, making it a bit messy and difficult to serve. Guacamole: Prepared with tomato, onion, cilantro, and cotija cheese. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and especially enjoyable paired with the queso fundido. Brisket: Served in chileatole sauce with huitlacoche truffle, carrots, and cotija cheese. Comforting, rich, and deeply flavorful. Robalo Guayaba: Guava sea bass served in guava sauce with chiltepín chili. Beautifully cooked with just a little too much sweetness and citrus. It would have benefited from a little bit of heat, or a vegetable or side to pair it with, as it is not served with anything other than a cooked slices of lemon. Creme Brulee Mexicano: A rice pudding infused crème brûlée with caramel and vanilla ice cream. A thoughtful twist on the classic, with the rice pudding adding depth and warmth to the dessert. Knocked down to 4 stars due to the rowdiness of some surrounding guests. We were seated on the sand and needed to walk through the entirety of the restaurant, but people without tables or reservations were standing in the middle of walkways and sitting on the steps down to the beach, many too intoxicated to stand up. I'm hopeful this is not the usual clientele, and I would return for the quality of the food, drinks, and the gorgeous setting.

Very heavy on sweet and sour, clearly not made in house, with a weak pour. Prices felt steep for the quality being delivered. Oddly enough, the highlight of the visit was people watching. The vibe is... strange. While waiting in line for the bathroom, someone who frequents the bar mentioned it's known locally as a swingers spot. The crowd skewed heavily 60+, but hey, whatever works. If you're in the area, I'd strongly recommend heading next door to Lido for a far better experience in terms of atmosphere, service, and drinks.

The fried mushrooms were perfect, the fish ceviche was awesome, and the beef tongue was cooked beautifully. And don't be afraid of the grasshoppers--seriously. Yummy. Even ingredients I normally don't gravitate toward, like black beans, were used so thoughtfully that I enjoyed them. The drink pairings were equally impressive--tequila, beer, wine and espresso--and each one genuinely complemented the course it accompanied. We were basically the only guests that evening, and our waiter turned that into a wonderfully personal experience. He patiently answered every one of our many "American questions" about the ingredients, preparation and pairings, never making us feel rushed or out of place. A sincere thank-you to him, the cooks--who my partner and I gave a standing ovation to--and the entire team for making the evening so memorable. My one tiny suggestion? Cloth napkins. With that many courses, sauces and textures, the paper ones felt a little out of step with the quality of the food. But when the napkin is your biggest criticism, they're doing something right. And then there's the value. For an experience of this quality, the price was remarkable. Our total was about $320 including tip for the full tasting experience and pairings for two. We have spent more than twice that on comparable special-occasion dinners at home, so Axiote felt not just exceptional, but genuinely budget-friendly for what you receive.
