Desperate for a sweet treat after our lunch at Hallertau we were stoked to discover that Phil Greig…read morewas just around the corner and open all year round. Sure you can't pick strawberries in winter (duh!) but you can still get a real fruit ice cream as big as your head. There's a couple of flavours to choose from (strawberry, blueberry, boysenberry) as well as the option of ice cream or yoghurt. Prices, given the size, are really reasonable and the young ladies manning the till, friendly!

It was that time of the year when Strawberry's needed to be picked and our family of little kids…read moreand big kids were all excited about heading to Phil Greig Strawberry Gardens. We arrived to quite a busy carpark and after securing the car, and lining up the kids, and putting the baby in the backpack, we were on our way to the little tent to pay up and grab a few buckets. Five dollars per person, for anyone over the age of 10, and you could pick as much as you wanted and eat as you picked as well. The admission you pay would later be deducted from your weight of fruit. I loved the fact that we could all do this as a family, and get our hands and feet dirty, whilst having a really memorable experience. Phil Greig Strawberry Gardens takes up quite a large space- a couple of acres of strawberry's, and there are masses of them everywhere. You wont know when to stop eating, and picking, but thanks to our over eagerness to pick, we later ended up with a pot full of strawberry jam boiling away on the stove- nothing beats homemade strawberry jam on piklets- delicious. I can say that this weekend activity gave us much laughter, and happy full strawberry tummy's.

Huckleberry Farms is a fantastic organic shop down in Glen Innes, with locations also in Royal Oak…read moreand Grey Lynn. What I like about this place is that it caters for not just one but many niches - from gluten-free to vegetarian to organic meat-eaters, Huckleberry Farms has most of your shopping list sorted. Do keep in mind though that although they have a wide range of stock, as it is natural and/or organic and/or gluten-free, it is pretty pricey and a lot more than what you'd pay down the road at the local supermarket. But don't let that put you off too much - they have very competitive prices with Nosh located over the road, and the service is super friendly and a bit more personalised than what you'd receive at Nosh.

If it is organic, gluten free or eco friendly then Huckleberry Farms probably has it. If you're…read moreinto organic eating or have some sort of food, this is the place for you. This store is a bit smaller than the other two locations but still stocks a decent amount of product. The produce is all very good quality and there is a good range of frozen and chilled foods. Down the back with the bulk nuts and cereals you can find baked goods that state they are free from multiple things. Harvest Wholefoods in Grey Lynn has a much better range and I prefer to go there as I can buy vegan muffins and cookies made in New Zealand from all natural ingredients by Kauri Kitchen. Even so if you are local to GI and want to eat healthier or need to find foods that cater to your dietary needs then I recommend it. Price doesn't really factor in much here. If you prioritise your health then you will pay to know what you are eating is free from preservatives and other ingredients that you can't pronounce. The owners are strict with which products they will stock based on ingredients, location and production methods. Eat well, treat your body well. Shop here.

Huckleberry Farms - Bought these from Huckleberry Farms today - instead of $11.99 each, I got them for $3.50 as they're about to expire! Very yum!

I popped in for a look and ended up buying grocery items I hadn't been planning on buying. The selection of food and produce is vast. If you're a newbie to Farro, you'd best apportion a good half hour to peruse the selection of goodies. This isn't a supermarket with a layout more about restocking and cleaning. This is a celebration of the culinary delights, grouped together pragmatically. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and was unable to decipher their layout matrix. Prices are a dollar or two more than what you would pay for the same item at Pak n Save. Yet, they have all of the hard to find organic, gluten free and other specialty dietary requirements necessitated by my two anaphylactic children. I used to shop at this location when it was Huckleberry Farms. But it is just so much better now that it is Farro Fresh. An absolute delight.
