We had a wonderful (and safe) day on the water. Unfortunately, our positive experience ended the moment we returned the boat. After renting multiple days with KJ, one interaction on 9/1 at ~3:30 PM was convinced us to take our business elsewhere. Upon docking, an associate confronted us with accusations that my husband had been "cutting through swimming zones" and "cutting people off." Not only were these claims untrue, but they were presented as fact with no specifics to support them other than receiving the call at the time we reached the no wake zone. At one point the story was "I got calls," and moments later it became "I got a call at the time you entered the wake zone." Which is it? When pressed for details (where, who, when), none were offered, just a shrug and the remark that he only gets "two calls a year," and apparently we're half of them. To make matters worse, we were told the supposed "cutting off" occurred as we entered the no wake zone. That means speeds were five miles per hour or less. How, exactly, do you cut someone off when everyone is crawling along at idle speed in the same general direction? The claim defies common sense, and yet it was repeated back to us as though it were unquestionable fact. The problem wasn't that a call was mentioned; it was the condescending delivery. Telling someone to "learn the rules" and "take an online course" is not only unnecessary, it's insulting. My husband is a cautious, defensive driver with experience across lakes and oceans. He said he had not driven a boat in a while - a while for us means last year. Again, no clarification requested from the Associate - just launched into a very confusing lecture. During our day on Lake Coeur d'Alene, we passed multiple police boats without incident, not to mention receiving nothing but waves and smiles from other boaters. Hardly the picture of reckless behavior. Had the associate framed the issue as a question, "We received a report you may have gone near a swim zone, what happened today?" we would have been happy to clear it up. Instead, it was delivered as an unverified accusation, shifting story included, wrapped in condescension. I asked for a management callback to try and resolve directly with KJ, same associate called me back. I respectfully stated facts, sharing my husband's history with boats, and that I felt he should have approached it differently. I did not ask for a refund, compensation, or anything - I just wanted to chat about the interaction and why it was inappropriate. His official response? "Your feedback is noted *end call*". My husband and I will not do business here again, and since management didn't seem to wish to discuss this interaction I will be "noting" my feedback here on Yelp! read more

We recently rented a 21' pontoon boat for 4 hours from KJ Watersports. Everything was very easy (making the reservation, completing the online waivers, getting questions answered, etc.). When I asked if there were any discounts available for seniors or military they kindly waived the fee for the rental tube. Parking is close (and free) and the gas fill up station is right next to KJ Watersports. (Some older reviews stated the gas fill up location was far away but that must have changed.) We had a lot of fun on the water in spite of a somewhat cool and overcast day. Would definitely do this activity again with our family and would certainly rebook with KJ Watersports! read more

Great experience with our pontoon but they should fix damaged props even if they "don't effect the performance" and also be a lot more clear and helpful during check in and with questions. Luckily our family has plenty of boating experience so it was fine but I can imagine the damaged prop on our boat was from someone who didn't get the right information or training from the staff. Office staff needs to remember that they're here to serve the people that are paying to use their equipment not to hang out with each other. read more

Very easy to rent from. Straight fwd online process. We reserved for Labor Day weekend for a special occasion that involved two separate families. The online signup processes facilitated our quick transition to the pontoon boat with minimal wait time. Great day on the lake and the ability to tow a tube behind was a plus. read more

Thanks to KJ Watersports, my husband and I had a fantastic day on lake Coeur d'Alene! Isaac was super friendly and made the rules and operation instructions very easy to understand. He had the boat in the water for us and the run down of everything within 15 minutes. The boat was super clean, perfect for the use of just the two of us-though it could fit 8. We got the 19' ski boat, which has a canopy over the middle and it provides a little bit of shade. Be sure to wear sun block! We really enjoyed the low deck on the back end for jumping in the water and easy re-boarding. Laying out in the sun and just floating made for a really great day! I advise you go for earlier start times, since when we came in, the docs for shipping out were far busier! In any event, Isaac was right there when we got back in to load up the boat n get us on our way. Will definitely recommend these guys for friends and family! read more

What a bummer! We have rented boats every summer from this place for the past 5 years.... NEVER AGAIN. The new location adds another 15 min in a no wake zone after you pick up the boat. Not to mention you have to fill up gas near the resort where you had to before they moved AND THEN RETURN ALL THE WAY AROUND to their new location and another 15 minutes in the no wake zone just to reach them. On Facebook they boast how wonderful this is to have their new location and how much easier it is to not be at the loading dock, but you have to understand this is ONLY EASIER ON THEM. This is NOT easier on the consumer who is paying hundreds of dollars to rent their boats. So basically, if you do a minimum three hour rental, Take off 30 to 40 minutes to do all of these things. Enjoy your two hour and 15 minute or so rental -what a complete rip off. We returned to the dock this evening, and the kid working there starts taking MY BOATING toys, thinking it belonged to KJ water sports as well. Unreal. Owner was present as I was expressing my opinion when he asked, did you guys have a good time and I said not really and this is why. You would think the owner of the company would come over to address it. But NOPE. I will make sure and review this business, everywhere I can. Go elsewhere save your time and money. Google boat rentals on lake Coeur d'Alene and there are SIX other reputable companies that offer minimum 4 hour rentals for THE SAME PRICE and none of this BS. If the owner was smart, they would add on another 30 minute grace period to do all of this BS run around that they require you to do so that the consumer can fully enjoy what they have paid for. read more

We rented a pontoon boat last weekend and everything was great. Boat was waiting for us, staff was friendly and helpful. Handover was informative but not too long. We brought boat back during torrential downpour and were meet right away by staff and we scurried off the boat with toddlers and coolers in tow...forgetting a bunch of stuff under the benches. When we called the next day staff was once again very helpful and made pick up very easy. We would rent her again, great experience. read more

Horrible customer service. Late with the boat. Ladder broken. Hit my leg on the side of the something when I was attempting to get back onto the boat with no ladder, Huge bruise from my knee to my upper thigh . Turned Black & blue instantly. Once we docked after our 8 hour rental time, my leg was also swollen. Told the people picking up the boat. Also mentioned the ladder was broke. The pick up people said oh yeah weve been having issues with the ladder. They knew it was broken. They insinuated I had too much to drink, which was definitely not true. I told them I was taking it up with the manager. Called KJ several times, like 5 or more. NO response! They do not care about you or maintaining their expensive boat rentals. So just beware! Pretty spendy day & ended up costing me more after going to the Dr too. read more

My family and I were in Coeur d'Alene because I was attending a conference at the CDA Resort. At the last minute, we decided to rent a boat and called around. We were referred to KJ Watersports by another rental company. Upon arrival, we were met by friendly staff that directed us to a trailer where the office was. A nice young woman helped us with the paperwork, and within 20 minutes, we were on our way to the lake. All of our interactions with the staff were courteous and professional. One of the main reasons I gave this place a try is they offer hourly rates whereas other places only seemed to offer full day rentals. We rented a ski boat for a few hours. The boat was clean and ran great. The older gentleman gave clear instructions and taught us everything we needed to know to operate the boat and have a good time on the lake. It was our first time renting jet skis, and KJ Watersports was super friendly and patient with us. We didn't realize how long it would take to refuel the jet skis, and even though we were a bit late because of it, they didn't charge us extra for that. The jet skis were fast and enjoyable to ride! VERY POOR PLACE TO DO BUSINESS WITH! Terrible service! Called and made reservations for a ski boat 7/21/18 afternoon for 7/22/18. Got to the rental place at 13:00 7/22 to due paperwork and do boat walk around. After all paperwork was completed and we were pulling out of the parking lot they ran us down and said we didn't have reservations and that someone else probably booked under us and they couldn't help us. HUGE disappointment and very poor unorganized service and facility. No apologies were made and very rude snarky attitudes. Will never do business with them again and recommend you don't either! We decided on a whim to rent a jet ski on my birthday. The office staff was cheerful and easy going. We were helped immediately and Bart set us up with a quick intro video, life preservers and a quick run down of the machine. In 10 mins we were getting on the water. My husband and I recently took our new pontoon boat out for its maiden voyage. When it was time to load the boat on the trailer we were a little apprehensive. Jason was at the dock waiting for some customers. After he finished giving instructions to his customers he came right over and gave us instructions on how to load the boat. He made it so easy and quick. He will never know how much he helped us! I would highly recommend this company as someone to do business with. We rented a boat from KJ Watersports for a full 8 hour day and experienced numerous problems from this company. The boat was given to us with a nearly empty tank, even though the employee assured us it was full and there was an issue with the gas gauge. The boat ran out of gas after two hours of driving it around, and we were overcharged for gas that was already paid for in cash. Attempting to resolve this with KJ Watersports has been a challenging and unprofessional experience. I've attempted numerous times to get ahold of the owners with no communication or follow up. Based on the unprofessional experience with the manager, the faulty fuel system, and very little communication from their team, I would highly discourage anyone from using the services provided by KJ Watersports. read more

We rented a 23' pontoon boat (with seating for up to 13 - we had 7 people and felt comfortable)for 3 hours today. We paid $325 (with tax). We felt this was a really reasonable price. They told us to arrive at their storefront at 12:45p to sign waivers and pick up kids life vests for a 1p-4p boat time. We showed up at 12:30p and I would recommend that. After driving to the dock and finding a park space, it was 1p. We met up with Dave who was already there and waiting for us. He explained everything and was really friendly. After cruising around the gorgeous lake and having a blast, we headed back to the gas stations to fill up the boat. This was more time consuming than we thought and we paid about $30 to fill her back up. Bart was waving at us when we arrived and we hopped off while he inspected the boat for damage. We were on our way by 4:15p. It was easy peasy and was such a great experience. We will definitely use them again for future boat rentals and recommend that you do as well! read more
