The issue was stuck mouthpiece, and he fixed it pretty quick and didn't charge us for it. Rented a cello for my son for his school's music class from Kline and I have to say they have such great customer service! The shop is full of instruments! All kinds! And plenty of them! .. they sell and rent .. we rented and it was so easy. You let them know what you need and they bring it out.. helps you inspect everything and give you a contract to sign. The rented price is decent and it goes towards the full price of the instrument if uou decide to buy it after. Highly recommend if you need to purchase or rent. read more

I'm not exactly sure how it happened that this was the closest music shop, it's a very tucked away kind of store with an old school, hipster vibe. But hey, this is where we landed! My initial experience largely consisted of debating internally, whether I was going to subsidize a local business or retreat to Amazon. The conclusion: go local! I've been trying to do more of that. Generally the staff were polite but at the register things got a little weird. My sole purchase was an audio cable. Between picking up the cable and walking to the register, the sleeve for the cable had fallen off somehow. I only realized this at the register. "Oh no!" After explaining what happened, I volunteered to grab a replacement item. Then one of the employees mentioned seeing the sleeve on the ground, but he also had no idea what happened to it. (there were kids around, I suspect it may have become a play toy--it disappeared fast) The employee scanned the replacement item, and I purchased the cord. They then proceeded to give me the product... with no product sleeve. What??? So now I'm holding a black cord and looking at the sleeve in this guys hand. I inquired about the sleeve and noted that the lifetime replacement mentioned on the sleeve conflicted with the stores week return policy. The response? "Oh, just bring the product and the receipt." Friends, does that make sense to you? Certainly not I. The employee would not give me the sleeve, so I insisted that I take a picture to at least have information for reaching out to the company. I want to give more stars to a local business, but truthfully that whole situation rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe next time will be better! read more

My 10 year old son at the time was learning the Saxophone at school. He enjoyed playing so much that we decided to find a place where we can buy a Sax. We honestly had no clue where to begin, so we started off at a large chain guitar store, thinking they should have all kinds of instruments... well that was a fail. They had none in store, they said they would need to order it online from their site and cannot be returned without a restocking fee once placed. Plus the employees didn't really know anything about Saxophones, which I guess is understandable. Anyways, I remembered that a friend of ours took their grandkid to Kline Music for lessons. So we decided to drop by and check it out. At first glance from the outside, I was doubting this place would have any Saxophones. Well, the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" definitely applied here. As we entered, we were greeted by employees and asked if we needed help. I didn't know anything about saxophones, except that I knew we wanted to surprise my son with one. He showed us a few options varying in price. He then told us about Klines "Rent to Own" program. I didn't know that instruments had such a program. This definitely helped us with selecting a better saxophone at a monthly payment that we can afford. Another nice thing about the program is that we can cancel any time without penalty. This was helpful if, for some reason, our son wanted to move on to another instrument. Fast forward 8 months later, he is still playing the saxophone. We came in today because my son had a few questions about cleaning his saxophone. The young gentlemen took the time to explain to my son the different tools from the cleaning kit. Since we were there, my son decided to check out a few Alto Saxophone books. It was awesome that Kline has so many books for all different instruments. It was well organized and my son was able to find some books that caught his attention. If you are looking for anything music related, definitely stop by Klines. The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable, and the quality of the instruments they carry are great. read more

Kline is Sac's music shop. There are others but you should feel guilty for going to them because this is the best one. They have the best teachers, the best music sheets, the best instruments, and fair prices that maybe aren't best but do pay for overhead aka labor and rent. So they can provide you with everything else. If they still have it, there at least used to be a bulletin board with local music related people that's also a good resource. they're always really good and helpful! i've rented my clarinet and tenor sax from them, just went yesterday to switch clarinets - renting a faulty one after my old clarinet broke - but instead Tom Hannickel fixed a problem with the clarinet! i also had previously rented a flute from them. even though the clarinet and sax were used, they were in basically new condition. read more

I usually order my guitar stuff online but I just lost my capo and I just really needed one right away. I've been to this store before and I had a a good experience. Girl who helped me one time was nice and friendly. Yesterday not so much. Bearded guy who helped me was helpful but rude and condescending. I needed a few more items in there but he made me feel so uncomfortable that I just wanted to be out of there I even pulled my card out too early because I just wanted to leave and had to stay longer because of that. I do like to support our local music store but from my experience yesterday, I'd rather drive all the way to Guitar Center. Folks are way friendlier there than in this store. Headed to Kline Music for some replacement guitar strings. Was greeted by helpful employee and directed to the area of the nicely packed store full of everything musical. Super helpful (low-pressure) salesperson offered to show me fantastic lines of beautiful acoustic guitars that I played. Very informative and very knowledgeable of the line and other similar brands. Had to rush off to fix a couple guitars and got to review the full line of available strings at the counter. Again, very helpful salesperson that allowed me to make the best selection for my needs. I love this place. I've come here for standard and low G ukulele strings, guitar straps, and once for a bass carrying bag over the past year or so, and every time it's been very pleasant. Every employee goes out of their way to greet you and get you exactly what you need. I even saw the P bass I'd always wanted and asked if it was even possible to demo it, and they brought freshly cleaned equipment straight to me to try it out. What can I say. I'm a musician that needs to have sheet music because I trained classically and have no idea whatsoever on improvisation or popular music styles, for that manner. Where to go where to go for my musical endeavors? Most of my books of piano compositions were usually purchased in San Francisco and Berkeley, where the wealth of support for the Fine Arts was most apparent. Sacramento? The only place I know my family had a running tab was at Jack's House of Music. I don't even want to know about the thousands of dollars dropped there. If I recall correctly, Jack supplied me with my beautiful silvery flute, among countless books of music: compilation of Etudes by Franz Chopin, Liszt, Edvard Grieg, Johann Sebastian Bach.......... Anyhow. Imagine my disappointment in learning that our umbilicus to classical inclinations had gone out of business years ago and the warehouse of classical music in SF had also given away to the pressures of a shifting economy that no longer placed value in the Fine Arts. Kline' Music is basically the only place that has retained a strong foothold amidst this recession and it is thanks to the hordes of students that have passed through the doors of the adjacent city college. I walked in with a list of items required for my classes as well as personal motivations. A standard mezzo soprano book of folk songs for my vocal instruction class ($25), another set of standards for singers ($20), more songs ($13), a tablet of manuscript paper ($10) to transcribe notes for myself, and jack fo r the piano class ($4).......not a large range of music offered here but I know that you may place a special order for something specific. In addition to music books and sheet music, they carry a sparse yet decent supply of instruments from guitars, to reed instruments, strings (violins), and for the more enthusiastic, private lessons by local teachers. For the newbie musician to the more advanced, not a bad place to sift through products and find exactly what the list dictates when jumping online is not an option. I'm old fashioned, so when it comes to classical music, prefer sifting through sheet music and seeing the notes on the paper, right in front of me. read more

Came here for a cello string. FYI, it was not a G-string, but an A. Anyhow, I called ahead of time to make sure that they had it in stock because I didn't want to make the trip allll the way there. It was only $12.95! Which is cheaper than what another store charged. Can't think of the name, but it is in Citrus Heights. Friendly staff and their cello lessons are only $80 a month, 30 minutes, once a week. Much cheaper than what I am currently paying, which is $30 for 30 minutes. Hey! That is like $1 per minute! Hmmmm.... Decided to take up the cello because it is a beautiful, sensual instrument and who knows how long I'll be on this earth. It's always been a secret desire of mine to play. read more

So now that I was in the market for an electric guitar I stopped here to see what they had and Jeff was very helpful and informative. This family-owned spot has the kindest folks around to assist and teach. It has the feeling of the old Sacramento mainstay that it is yet their music book collection is as modern as they come. I called Kline Music because I was looking to purchase a solid Koa, Hawaiian made KoAloha ukulele. I've been on the search for a while and not too many stores have them in store. A very kind gentleman answered the phone (I did not get his name) and he looked and found ONE floor model. I mentioned that I had been to other stores looking at ukes and because they are floor models, some have dings and nicks on them. I mentioned that I am an hour and half drive away and if he only has one, I didn't want to come all the way there to see it has some damage. I asked if he can send me photos of it either via text or email. He was very kind and asked to put me on hold while he asked the manager. He came on and told me that the manager said "we dont' do that". I explained my distance, and that if I am in the market for a $1,400 ukulele, I really dont' want to drive that far just to leave after coming in and seeing damage to it. He was apologetic, understood my dilemma but said the manager said no. It's not his fault, I know. But the manager should know that if you are going to spend that much on a new uke, it should be.... clean. I gave two stars for the nice employee on the phone but not five because the managers did not seem interested in taking me serious about my intended purchase. I ended up driving two hours the other way and going to Ukulele Source who not only sent me pics of the ones they have in stock but were happy to have my business. I came home with a beautiful brand new solid Koa KoAloha, a new hard case to protect it, humidifier and other goodies that it needs, from Ukulele Source in San Jose. That was close to $1,600 that Kline could have taken from me. Perhaps they have so much business, that they didn't need my money. Im' happy, they are happy. Everyone is happy! My tip to Kline: I know you've been in the business for quite a while and you have your rental business that sustains you, but when a person wants to drop almost $1,600 (including accessories) you might want to consider sending photos. I do not recommend this place for music instrument repairs. The woodwind and brass repair person may have 20 years of experience, they unfortunately have 0 years of experience in customer service. To them, answering a customer's questions for 5 minutes, is "a waste of their precious time" that could be spent making money on other repairs. No matter how skilled one may be, this does not excuse rude manners. read more

If ever there was a shining example for why you should shop and support local, Kline Music is it. Walking in on a busy afternoon, you'll see this is far more than a music store. People gather here to organize lessons and get their kids into music as well. It's sort of a community hangout. I came in for the first time with the simple mission of finding a mic stand. One hour later, I left with an assortment of small gear. What happened in between was what makes this spot quality. Despite being very busy, an employee immediately offered to help me. We discussed the mic stands (bonus: they were on sale) and clips, but I quickly became mesmerized by the fine guitars on the walls. After fiddling with them, I realized I needed a guitar strap. Then I realized I needed a new tuner. I was searching through the vast collection of chord and fakebooks in the back when I realized that if I didn't leave soon, I'd never make my appointment later. The selection of instruments here is quality and the location across the street from the community college is mighty convenient for students. I had the worst experience trying to sign up for ukulele lessons. I got Peter's contact information off the Kline's music store website. He made me feel like he was doing me a favor in me paying him for lessons. He was just rude and told me that he is an independent contractor and his availability is limited. I didn't have a problem committing to a time; its just his attitude that turned me off. Even though he is and independent contractor and not an employee of Kline's music, his contact information should be removed from their website because it shows some affiliation and a bad reflection of the store. read more

I went there in search of a real book and I found it, it was 45$ and on the internet it was 20-39$ and while most employees are nice there are a few who lack kindness and you can tell they don't like you. They need to expand their music collection too, the store had hundreds of books for woodwinds and high brass but only 5 for tuba, which is annoying because when I need exercises and solo content I can't get it quick because they don't have it.
