Title: Exceptional Service at Tim's Music! I had an unexpected issue with my chromatic harmonica right before an important practice session, and after calling around everywhere, Tim's Music was the only shop able to help. Natalie, the Service Coordinator, went out of her way to arrange for a technician to take a look at it--even though they don't normally repair harmonicas. Taylor, the repair technician, examined it right away, found debris inside, and returned it playing better than ever. Scott, the owner, even came out personally to make sure everything was just right. They didn't charge me a dime and made me feel truly cared for. This level of kindness and professionalism is rare. We purchased a violin for my son and he broke the string trying to tune it. We had someone intensely tell us that we might have messed it up and so he felt really bad about it. We called around to check if anyone would service it in the time frame we needed and the rep on the call at Tim's music was so nice, we decided to give them a shot. What a warm and welcoming atmosphere, it seems like they hire saints here or something. The nice lady whose name starts with a C got it fixed and tuned quickly at a very reasonable price. My review is different from most since it is commenting on a very specific aspect of Tim's Music. My children had their piano recital here. There was a large room adjacent to where the store is. The lighting was great, the room was spacious and clean, and the sound traveled well. While it may not have the same acoustics of Carnegie Hall, I enjoyed the melodies and harmonies that filled the room nonetheless. Thank you for having a space for parents to experience the fruits of their children's labor, and providing a space for children to practice performing in front of an audience. read more

I'd just moved back to the Sacramento area almost 2 years ago after a 42+ year absence. I knew that I needed to find a new instrument repair place. I'm an ex-professional musician and have a lot of stringed instruments, including a small pile of high end ukuleles and one of them needed adjustments. On a lark, I took it into Tim's Music on Fair Oaks blvd. Not only were the employees nice the service was excellent! I was in-and-out of there in 10 minutes! Free of charge! A few months later I took my Martin 000 guitar in for an adjustment, action reduction, etc. Within a couple of days my guitar was ready and let me tell you...it plays like a dream! Not only that the price was absolutely low! Tim's has my business from now on for all my acoustic instrument needs. I realize that their bread-and-butter lies with wind instruments but the repair shop does stringed instruments as well. I highly recommend Tim's! read more

I called ahead of time looking for Alto Reeds which they immediately answered. The store had everything I was looking for (alto reeds, cork grease, neck strap, and even the silk swab) with all my favorite brands. I got great recommendations on some of my items as well. I wasn't looking for lessons, but honestly the customer service was so great that I am considering todo so. read more

This is a must go to music store! I called the store to see how long it will take for a repair on a cello, they got back to me promptly and said they will do their best to get it to me by my next lesson. They did even better, they were able to get it done while I was in the store, saving me a trip. Everyone there is polite and quick to help, not to mention the store itself is setup beautifully. While their location was a bit out of the way for me, it was well worth it and I will definitely be coming back again! read more

This place is great for renting instruments. My son needed an alto saxophone, his music teacher recommended this place. When we walked in we were greeted and assisted by a younger lady. She helped us get what we needed and provided a lot of information about what the store offers and also about the instrument my son plays. I am in love with this store Upon visiting Sacramento, I got to tour their repair area. This is a complete repair, retail, and lesson facility that any Yelper with a professional band instrument can trust. They've got the tools to fix virtually anything and the skillzzz to get it done right. Another point: I saw a pile of "No Repair" instruments. When I asked what it was, the owner said that they inform people when their instrument is beyond repair (aka not worth it). That told me that this was a place to trust. The people at the front are nice. It's easy to look around and there's plenty to browse. Lots of cool extras for gifts for musicians. Plenty of sheet music. And, holy cow, a selection of tubas?!! Stopped by about 15 minutes before closing just planning to drop off an instrument to be repaired and all of the employees working were SO nice! My flute is quite old and the employee working in the repair dept was politely upfront about the expensive cost for such an old instrument, but because I'd had the instrument so long she found a cap and replaced it for me and even tightened a few things for just a few dollars so I could keep the flute I'd played for 7 years thru school. They then spent about 20 minutes with us and even showed my daughter a few other instruments just because she was asking what they were. Super nice and would definitely recommend!!!! read more

I play tenor sax in a community band here in Sacramento. I needed some work done on a temporary horn I was using. I took it to Tim's and they were extremely helpful, thorough, and prompt. They did the repairs and maintenance and the horn now plays better than I would have expected for such an inexpensive model. I'm headed over there tonight for some new reeds and to discuss mouthpiece options for my good horn. I look forward to hearing what they have to say. I love this store but I wish they didn't close at 5pm on Mondays. Otherwise they are very helpful.

My experience of getting my trumpet cleaned and repaired was pleasant. The employees were courteous and personable. The repair work was supurb and above the standard that I was expecting. My daughter's saxophone wasn't working, and we went there today to get it fixed. They were very friendly and immediately provided us with help. In addition to fixing what we asked for, they added a cork for one of the keys that was missing it. Her saxophone now works perfectly fine, and the sound comes out fine. We will definitely be going back there for any other problems we have with any of our instruments, and recommend it to any friends who need lessons, repairs, or any music products. read more

Great work, friendly people, but I authorized up to $400 in total charges, and when they handed me the bill, it was for $875. Labor alone was $500 before I explained my original understanding. The bass I had repaired needed parts that took months to order, not their fault, but I had to call several times to get updates. I can see why this shop has great reviews. The work they did was spectacular and probably worth the money, but it was a nasty surprise and nothing I could do at that point but pay for my instrument. Be careful with big repair projects that you're on the same page!!! read more

Me and my family were in the store today and whoa we were followed around the store like we were going to steal something. There was a man following around my son when he was looking at sheet music. Then the same man stood *right* behind me, watching me as I plucked the stings on a ukulele. (Which I'm looking to buy.) It was very uncomfortable. I know they were broken into a few months ago but wow, calm down not everyone is going to steal from your store or maybe get security at the door. I will say tho, the gal behind the counter was friendly and helpful. read more

I have spent my whole life being dragged from one music store to the next. My dad is a musician (as are several other family members). He started with trombone, but his bread and butter is guitar. That being said, most of the stores he has taken me to have been for guitars, amps, drums kits, Gibson this, Fender that. Tim's Music was refreshingly different than the places I am used to. They've got sax, trombone, ukuleles, violins, Native American flutes, lesson books, instrument care kits, and so much more. You can rent or buy and even get some lessons. The employees are friendly and seem to really like what they do. A couple of them seem like total music junkies (which is a good thing). My reason for visiting Tim's in the first place? Dad gave us an old Besson cornet that had sat in its case for who knows how long. While it seemed in pretty good shape, one of the slides was stuck. It wouldn't have been a big deal except my kid needs it for brass band. So I brought it down to Tim's to see about getting it un-stuck. Lucky us! - we got it back by the next morning and the cost was only some pocket money. Thank you, Tim's! read more

After reading reviews on here I decided to give these guys a try. I had a cheap guitar that I wanted to get setup, restrung and have the selector switch replaced so I took it in. It's gonna be $70. No big deal. In the mean time I decided to have the pickups replaced and wonder how much that would set me back. Josh was very nice and did exactly what I expected in a timely fashion. Problem is, whoever the clown is that does their guitar work is a thief. Josh called me back to let me know their guitar guy wanted $180 in labor *alone* to replace the pickups. That doesn't include the price of the pickups, the selector switch the strings or the setup I was also having done. All tolled it would have been around $285. That's ridiculous. They're not staying in business with their guitar services that's for sure. So I decided to find a regular joe that does guitar setups/repairs/etc via Craigslist because I'm just sick of wasting my time on people like their guy and the clown over at Guitar Center. I found a guy that will do it ALL for $50 not counting the price of the hardware, so about $120 total as opposed to $285. Tim's guy said it would take him 2 weeks to get it done. This other guy can have it done in 2 days. And he's not just some joe on Craigslist, he's got plenty of references and proof of his work. I'll never do business with Tim's Music again. Their guys were very nice and treated me with respect, but their guitar tech is a moron and a thief. Spend your money somewhere else if you want good guitar work done, you'll save a small fortune taking your guitar somewhere else. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Tim's Music. They were in attendance and the Folsom/Cordova schools rental night. I needed to rent a half-size Cello. Understandably they were out that evening, but the lady helping me thought there was one back in the store. She attempted to call her manager to see if they could verify. Unfortunately he couldn't so she committed to call me the next morning around 10:00am. I waited until 4:00pm and called the store. I informed the gentleman that I was waiting for a call to confirm if they had a Cello that I needed. He took my information and advised somebody would get right back to me. And that call never happened either. Luckily I was able to find what I needed at a different music store. read more

Places like this are why I don't just do all my shopping online. I wanted to get my girlfriend a new guitar for our anniversary, and it was impossible to make a good decision just shopping online. The staff was helpful and friendly and asked all the right questions to help me pick one out. I ended up purchasing a used acoustic, and my girlfriend loved it.
