Yet and ironically, every two to three days--I'm using organic shampoos and organic conditioners washing my hair. As a result refraining having my hair freshened since, 2025, my frizzy-bombed hair was an egregious, frightful, FRIED mess, i.e., my hair was replicating as if, I stuck my finger into an electrical outlet~oooof. Blessed, I had two Salon Hair Stylists taming my unruly, mop head: Andresa who'll graduate in August 2026 and Carrie who'll graduate in October 2026~lol! Both had the arduous task repairing my damaged hair after the toxic, anesthesia procedure I endured for both eyes' cataract surgeries on December 31, 2025 and March 28, 2026. Since last year, I hadn't had anything done to my hair, I was basically back to the initial stage--square one, i.e., all my color had dissipated: Reverting to foiling my hair, toning for highlights, blending, shampoo, deep conditioning, cutting, blow dry, and styling my hair. Next, around the end of May to mid-June 2026, I must return for completing the toning procedure in order, balancing my hair's final coloration.

Left unattended, it becomes a choose-your-own-adventure Afro. Zoeorn and her professor took one look and said, basically, "We got this." And they DID. They were super kind, patient, and low-key magical, gently untangling the tentacles my hair had formed and shaping it into a clean pompadour that relaxed into my own style by the time I got home. And the best part? $15. Fifteen. Dollars. Plus a very well-deserved tip because talent like that needs to be encouraged. If you have unique hair, chaotic hair, rebellious hair, or just hair that wakes up in the morning with an attitude, go see them. They'll make you look good, hype you up, and send you out into the world feeling like a cooler version of yourself. 10/10, will absolutely be back

Since it's a beauty school, prices are significantly lower compared to other places. I met a variety of students that were always so kind and service is amazing. Every time I walk in for an appointment, the environment is always clean and organized. I make sure to tip the students generously because I've heard they don't get paid for doing services. However, one thing of feedback I have is to improve on communication. Upon arrival, clients will do additional one page paperwork that asks what skin care products you use, yes/no questions, and another signature. It's quick and simple to do! Then, an esthetics instructor pulled me to the side and asked we could talk. There was another woman alongside her who I did not recognize and never met in my life nor did she introduce herself. The esthetics instructor told me they were not sure why no one told me but are unable to do services on me because they basically found things in my hair 2 weeks ago at my facial and back treatment appointment. While I appreciate the instructor informing me this, this interaction was indeed embarrassing just like the instructor said so. If it is so embarrassing, why was I told this in-person rather than a phone call? I made this appointment 2 weeks prior so they had 2 weeks to communicate with me. I have Hoss Lee Academy's number saved so if they called me I would have known but they did not. This was honestly unprofessional and disappointed with HLA. I hate having to write a review like this but during and after that interaction I feel humiliated. I drove far and wasted my gas for an interaction that could have and should either been done over an email or a call. If this is how Hoss Lee Academy treats their clients I can't imagine what it is like to be a student. You truly get what you pay for; I am going to find another place and if I have to pay more for better customer service then so be it.

I had haircut trauma after getting a bad razor cut that thinned my hair six years ago, so I just kept letting it grow. Spoiler alert: it was not going well. To the rescue: I had an inside connection at Sacramento City College Cosmetology program, and got my dream haircut courtesy of my sibkid. You can book a specific person or have a random assignment. I was very impressed with the organization and structure of the salon. It looks and feels like a real salon with a receptionist check-in, stylist stations and comfy chairs. The students to a one looked dedicated and professional as they went about their work. There are a number of instructors on the floor who check in with their students and offer support during the client consultation, as well as checking progress at a few key points during the process. The details: You can sign up to get a variety of hair services (cut, blowout, color, highlights, updo, etc.). from senior cosmetology students from March/April with morning or afternoon appointments. You can book online or call the program for more details. If you aren't a student or staff member on campus you will need to get a day parking pass ($2) which are only available from certain kiosks on the surface student parking lots. There is plenty of parking, especially in the parking structure, but no kiosk there which I found to be a bit crazy. Check out the Los Rios college website parking info. I have had my hair cut at very high end salons and I can say that this was far better than those experiences. It was special to see the energy and positivity from my sibkid and their classmates. From check in to checkout it was a great experience. I felt heard and supported in my hair goals and received a stellar haircut and blowout. The cost was $10....best deal ever. They are doing great things at SCC...check it out and get an upgrade in your look this Spring!

I came in on a Thursday evening and was a wait before it was my turn. I think there was some confusion when I booked my appointment but everything worked out. The stylist who did my haircut was wonderful. She didn't need direct supervision, but I felt like I was in good hands. She was so sweet and pleasant to chat with. She washed my hair and explained everything she was doing. The haircut itself didn't take too long, and it came out how I wanted. She was very great at listening and also making suggestions. The environment itself isn't like your typical salon. Since it is a school, all the students are around, either working with clients or working on other things. There's a lot happening everywhere. But it was nice and lively and made the time go fast. The best part was it was definitely more affordable than going to my normal salon.

I paid about $35 to get a manicure and a pedicure. I got gel on the feet and nothing on the hands. Because I already knew this information going due to my daughter attending beauty school. I didn't expect to have a experienced results. I did want to get at least my service completed and a different color on my feet. My only suggestion is not to go to this location if you are expecting five star manicure/pedicure service. Save up your funds and go to the professional shop. But if you really don't care how it looks then go let the ladies practice on you. There was one manicurist there but she said she was only going to be there for one more week.. But I might be interested in the stylist Bubbles, she does hair and a good job. I would like to thank the ladies that did their best at servicing me. Seems like the nail service program need to apply more training.
