Food spread at cocktail hour had a lot of variety that melded high-end cuisine with basic finger food. Dinner service prolonged but generally matched the quality of passed appetizers. For the salad course, everyone got a big ball of burrata. 53 minutes later, at almost 10pm, the entrees arrived. Portions of protein were tiny considering the length of the meal, but overall this Country Club hosted a great wedding with pretty good wedding food.

The Belskie Museum of Art and Science is a fantastic local (albeit small) museum located next to…read morethe Closter Public Library and across from the Tenakill Middle School. I was disappointed to have mixed the exhibit featured during the month of January on Korean minhwa (folk painting). So this time around, I made a note to attend the reception for April's exhibit on Mixed Media Masterpieces and had a great time browsing the museum to look at the pieces curated by Meagan J. Meehan. The pieces for this particular exhibit were available for purchase, so along with the work title and artist information, the pieces also had prices listed with the exhibit labels. I would have loved to purchase a few pieces, but they were expensive for someone on a grad student budget! Admission is free, although donations are welcomed, and receptions for the monthly exhibits typically occur on the first Sunday of the month. The museum is only open on weekends between 2 and 4 pm and closed during weekdays. There is an exhibit schedule available online, and no exhibits are on show during the summer months of July and August. The staff are welcoming; the woman who sat at the reception table greeted me when I entered and asked me to sign the guestbook. If you're in the area, the Belskie Museum is a good place to spend an hour on a weekend to enjoy local art.

There isn't a guided tour most of the time, but the employee at the front was available to answer questions and we were lucky to come at at a time an intern was visiting and he gave us additional information. If that doesn't happen to you, there are signs and additional information on QR codes. There are a lot of original pieces mixed with period pieces detailing Greeley's family life and his career ups and downs. In addition to that, there is information on the impact he had in the local town and sites/statues in his honor. When I went, there was also a small gallery with Americana items including a beautiful handmade quilt. There is a very small gift shop and a couple of parking spaces on site. It's a pretty cheap price, helps the historical society, and there is also a walking map available for other significant town sites. It's cute and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Bags opened, wand passed over you, and a walk through the metal detector. The audience waits in chairs in the lobby till it's time to go in. There's a bathroom and water, but no snacks once inside. If you want coffee, or something to eat while you wait, bring it in. Main Street is close by and has plenty of food options. Once seated it took a bit for the show to start. Luckily the stage crew was entertaining, pulling audience members up to dance and telling jokes, so time passes quickly. When Karamo came out, his positive energy was felt by all. He's also a hugger which makes him that much more endearing. Every guest was shown respect and heard with compassion, then given advice or help as needed. Karamo's laid back, empathic nature was refreshing, and I plan to use some of his conflict resolution techniques in my own life. It was a pleasure to watch him work. He's gained a new fan!
