Look, you get what you pay for with this. It's quick, great location, I can typically find an open Bay or two on the driving range, and it's a pretty good price. It's nothing exceptional, but it gets the job done and I enjoy going because of how nice and local it is! I think the value and the options there is exactly what you need when you want to go to the driving range and just smash a couple balls either by yourself or with some friends. Knights Play is a beginner's paradise, perfect for me! I've been trying to get into golf and Knights Play has all of the facilities to help me work my way through the intricacies of the sport. There are places you can go to practice different parts of your game. I often hit the driving range. There are plenty of mats for a lot of people to be hitting at once. They even have two separate areas where you can practice your short game or putting. All three of these areas are decent. The value for the driving range is solid, I spend about $11 to practice my swing for a good hour, which is equivalent to a large bucket of golf balls. Knights Play even has a golf course, where the whole course is a Par 3. Many of the holes are relatively short, compared to the average course. Some holes are straight forward shots to the hole, while other have some hazards. There is some good variety, with nothing being over the top challenging. Again, a beginner's paradise. My biggest complaint is the general maintenance of the course. The tee boxes are super scuffed, almost like you're starting in the bunker. The greens also are very patchy so you can never get a perfectly smooth putt. However, my friends and I always have a good time and we can see ourselves continuing to improve as we play more. I guess this will become an official hobby! read more

Went here today for the first time to hit a few balls. Pretty nice facility. I could tell immediately the staff takes good care of things. Restroom was clean, staff out and about collecting ball buckets, cafe had some good aromas wafting from it - all things that really speak to a well ran place. It didn't really help my hitting - still hacked at the balls like a blind woodsman - but I'll be back to throw good money after bad trying to get better at this maddeningly fun and frustrating game! read more

It's so hard to beat this place! Where else can you find 27 holes of Par 3 golf? Answer: No where!! This place is unique & in a class of its own! It's lighted so you can play at night! It has a huge driving range. It has multiple putting & chipping practice areas. It's affordable! I played 18 holes on a Tuesday for $18 bucks that includes the cart! It gets a lot of use & many who don't understand the importance of repairing pitch marks on the green so that's a problem. So me and wife came to visit my friend down in Raleigh. So I decided to do a quick 9 and it beautiful and a good price to play and ride. Not used to the hills but ok and only thing I have say that is a negative thing is the greens it looks like they were air raided and chewed up but all in all good course and will come back again and try 18 next time. read more

It pains me to write this, but it is true: the greens and tee boxes are so amazingly bad that it is not worth playing. I know it gets a lot of play, but there is no excuse for letting an otherwise nice facility deteriorate to this point. Things are so bad that a few holes have the cup cut into the fringe of the green because there is no grass on the green. Honest! I hope the owners act soon to stave off total ruin because it is dangerously close. read more

So I planned this for my sons 13th birthday, per his request. night golf is what he was excited about . We enjoyed the first 9 holes and wanted food but was told it wasn't advised to eat while playing the next 9 holes. we were told it would take too long to make the food and they were keeping the lights in for us @ 7:30 when it closes at 9:30. Knight's Play has become my happy place! It's inexpensive enough that we can come several nights a week to hit a bucket of balls and, if they can get us in for 9 holes, so much the better. The greens are struggling a bit now due to all the rain earlier in the month, but the groundskeepers are doing everything that they can to rehabilitate them. The staff are friendly, and the food is good. Ladies or Knights, day or night. Anyone can play at Knights Play. It's a charming par 3 course with 27 holes, each with 3 tees for advanced, intermediate and beginner. It includes fully paved and well maintained trails for the carts but it's still a great course to walk if you prefer. You can even play under the lights since they are usually open until midnight, depending on the weather. Call ahead to make sure they are open. Tee times are recommended. You may see a course ranger when it is busy but there are plenty of times to play that don't require a ranger. Keep in mind that this is a great course for beginners so the rangers sometimes have their work cut out for them. They can help move things along if necessary. The driving range includes 60 stations with yardage markers and there is also a putting range. KP offers a great weekday lunch special. Get a sandwich, drink, and a bucket of balls for just $9! KP also offers various learning clinics available to help you work on your game. No collared shirt required. But really, who doesn't look great in a collared shirt? This place is a great place for beginners wanting to get into golf. For 4 people & 2 golf karts in order to play on a 9 par was about $50 which is a good deal. Terrain is clean and we brought our own clubs. There is a cold water cooler at the halfway point as a great refresher. Friendly staff and great price! read more

I am visiting from out of town and decided to play a game of golf since I had my clubs. I visited two courses and both were advertised as public but were actually private. Called Knight's Play and they were kind and said everyone is a member and invited me down. I showed up within the same hour and got going. This course is absolutely wonderful to play, well taken care of, and the prices were within budget. This was my first par 3 where the course allowed golf carts and so I enjoyed not lugging around my bag. I enjoyed the first nine holes so much I did the middle 9 (there are 27(!!!) holes in total) immediately after. The next day I came back and played another 18 holes but this time did the back 9 instead of the middle. These holes are great for those who are not the best but still want a great challenge. Called day before to get a tee time. I was told previously when it's nice weather that is needed. So we had 8pm on Friday , when we arrived they still had space but not carts so if you don't call ahead no cart.. We have used the driving range and find the casual atmosphere nice, we've even taken our 5 yr old to the range. I did see a very small 2 or 3 yr old hanging out on the course on their parents cart which was surprising. All in all a great experience , for 5 stars they'd have to add a restroom and beverage station where the middle nine and back nine meet ...at least a small restroom would be nice. read more

I primarily use the driving range and don't have too many gripes about it. Some of the range balls are extremely worn and should be thrown away, and there are a few mats that need replacing as well. The mats on the range are in horrible condition and should be replaced with Real Feel grass. The grass section of the driving range is mostly dirt, dust, and divots. There's no irrigation on the range, so if it hasn't rained in a while, hitting off the grass is a waste of time. There need to be more targets on the range too. The chipping green is too small and is in terrible shape. There is a large grass area near the chipping green that seems like it could be utilized for a larger chipping area. The putting green is good size, but needs more holes. If they would put some money into the practice area, KP could be a prime golf center, but sadly, there have been no improvements in the past 10 years. It is too bad, because KP is in a great location, but they seem to continue taking money from the locals without putting an ounce of improvement into the practice area. Apex deserves better than this. Lochmere is nearby and has a much better range and practice green, much more worthy of the Cary/Apex area. read more

I have frequented KP for years and it has stood the test of time. Located on the Apex-Cary border off of 10-10rd it is a great Golf Alternative. Par 3 course consisting of 27 holes (3-9's), varying in distance and difficulty. The course is always well maintained providing a challenging yet fun test. Added bonus of being able to play at Night under the lights. They also have a well appointed Driving Range and Cafe. Staff has always been super friendly and this last visit the clerk actually gave me a deal on Hats! Play on Mondays before 5 and the Greens fees are half price. Great place for beginners. All holes are par 3 so you dont need a full set of clubs if you want to play. The 27 holes offer a great variety although I prefer the front and back 9. They also have a putting green and chipping area as well. They run specials all the time - like Ladies Day Thursday - half off for ladies before 5pm - SCORE! And they also run lunch time specials - like $9 for a sandwhich drink and large bucket of balls - although I've never had their food so cant say anything about that. The pro's are always nice and friendly. Their "pro" shop is tiny wouldn't really come here if you are looking for a big selection. I love their hours...they are open anytime I'm in the mood to golf. The driving range is pretty good size and offers both hitting of grass and the mats which is great. They do offer golf carts - but I prefer to walk. The ground are nicely maintained. Overall a great, reasonably priced place for beginners to get a handle on their game. If you are looking for a nicer course I suggest you check out Preston or Lochmere or drive a little farther and go a little further out and hit Pinehurst. read more

Knight's Play Golf Center is a 27 hole, par three perfect for beginner or less experienced golfers. The course is lovely, there's a driving range, the carts are newish, and there's a restaurant on site with a lunch/bucket of balls deal. And you can't beat the price. Plus, they offer all kinds of specials. Mondays have half-price green fees. Ladies have half-price green fees on Thursdays. We played 9 holes, with a cart on a Monday afternoon and the total cost was $19 for both of us. The course has positives and negatives; there are several water hazards to keep things interesting, but we found the greens to be really slow. Also, lots of players don't repair their divots or holes they create on the greens- we chalk this up to inexperience. As for a dress code, it doesn't seem that one is enforced. Knight's Play is the perfect place if you are a beginner or want to work on your short game. read more

Knight's Play is awesome. It's a 27-hole lit course with mostly par 3s. The front 9 and the back 9 are the best for beginners. If you're a beginner, grab a few irons, your pitching wedge, and your putter. You don't need a full set. I actually bought a "sunday golf bag" just so I could take a limited number of clubs. Dress here is very casual. You'll see people on the course wearing everything from typical golf attire to Nike shorts and T-shirts. However, most everyone will still observe basic golf etiquette. The course and driving range may seem a little beat up, but as a beginner I don't have any complaints. They have carts here, but I honestly don't know why you would need them unless you plan on doing the whole 27 or playing two rounds. They also serve lunch on weekdays (11am-2pm), but I have no idea how it is. I always go to Tommy's Deli or Paradise Pizza instead. read more

I'm a bit torn on how to review and rate this place. I enjoy par 3 courses from time to time. And having a driving range not far from my home is great. Plus my 9 year old started playing about a year ago and my father takes him here all the time for both the range and to play. Here are my problems with the place. Play is Sloooooow... Real slow most of the time. I have quit in the middle of a round before because I just couldn't take it anymore. Slow golf kills me. I'm not a speed player. Not by any stretch. But it can be unbearable many times here. The other problem, and this isn't so much their fault, is the length of the driving range. For 99% of people out there it is plenty long. I however am in that 1% that it is not long enough for. I used to play for Penley Shafts and Integra Heads on the Long Drivers Tour and competed for several years in the Re/Max World Long Drive Championship. To put it bluntly, I kill the ball. 350+ is an average drive and when I am working it, 400 isn't unusual. I was in a not so polite fashion asked to leave the range because of the distance I was hitting the ball. OK, I'm driving it past the limits of your range. Instead of coming up and yelling at me, just let me know that you would like me to limit my range practice to irons. But for beginners and kids, its a decent place to start. But for golfers of even average ability, it can be pretty frustrating to stand around and wait, and wait, and wait. read more
