The person before me came out of the same examining room within a few short minutes and visibly looked annoyed... I have a feeling they had the same experience. Every time I came here, I waited around an hour past my scheduled appointment time. There was little to no communication about the delays and not even an apology. If you take a look at previous reviews, apparently I'm far from being the only one who had this problem. My biggest issue is the billing and complete lack of transparency about what these procedures were going to cost me. I was billed approximately $1,000 related to procedures that took an extremely short amount of time - literally less than a minute. I was never properly informed beforehand that I could be responsible for charges of more than $400 per visit/procedure AFTER insurance, on top of paying my copays. What makes this even more frustrating is that I was specifically told to follow up every two weeks. At no point was it made clear to me that following their recommended treatment schedule could mean owing more than $400 every two weeks after insurance. Had that been properly disclosed to me, I obviously would have wanted to discuss the cost and my options before agreeing to that schedule. Most people cannot reasonably afford hundreds of dollars out of pocket every two weeks without even being warned about it. The office is apparently classifying/billing these procedures as "surgeries." From a patient's perspective, there was absolutely nothing about what I experienced that I would have understood to be surgery. I have undergone actual invasive procedures before, and this was nothing remotely comparable. If something is going to be classified and billed as a surgical procedure costing hundreds of dollars, I believe that should be clearly explained to the patient beforehand. The billing is also extremely confusing because what appeared to me to be the same procedure was approximately $150 on another occasion, while other visits resulted in charges of more than $400. I asked the office to explain why there was such a significant difference in pricing, and they would not provide me with a clear explanation. I was simply told to contact their billing department. What really pushed this experience over the edge was how I was treated when I went to the office asking for an explanation. Instead of someone sitting down with me and explaining what I was being charged for, why the amounts differed, and why these procedures were being classified as surgeries, the situation escalated to the point where I was threatened with having the police called while I was asking for answers about my own medical bills. I will be contacting my insurance company and asking them to review the claims, procedure codes, and billing associated with my visits. I want a complete explanation of exactly what was billed as "surgery," why the amounts varied so significantly for what appeared to me to be the same procedure, and whether everything was billed appropriately. Between routinely waiting an hour past my appointments, the lack of communication, being instructed to return every two weeks without being informed of the potential hundreds of dollars in out-of-pocket costs each time, the confusing billing, and the way I was treated when I asked for an explanation, I have completely lost confidence in this practice. I will not be returning. As someone local to Farmingdale, I will also be sharing my experience with friends and family in the area so they can make an informed decision before choosing this office. This is plain and simple FRAUD. UPDATE: I have since spoken with my insurance company, and my concerns have gotten worse. Months later, the office is now going back and billing for my original May appointment, and my insurance also identified apparent duplicate billing and denied those claims. I have formally reported my concerns to my insurance company for suspected fraud and requested an investigation. I strongly recommend patients carefully review their claims and Explanation of Benefits from this practice.
