I visited this place about a year ago on a whim. Went up to my friends cottage in Comins and arrived a bit earlier than them. I was hungry and had time to kill so I figured I would stop in the only bar in town. I walked in wearing my business casual attire as I had left straight from work for this trip. Sure, I got the immediate record stop/skip, turnaround and stare from everyone, but that was expected; this is a small town, afterall. While I did get the staredown, I never felt uncomfortable as I sat by myself at the bar. Hell, even a couple patrons talked to me for a bit! This place had a surprisingly decent amount of craft beer on tap. I think I was drinking some sort of IPA from Rochester Mills or Griffin Claw. Beer was cold and priced very well. During my few days in Comins, I visited Knot Hole probably 4-5 times. While we all mostly drank up there, we did order some food. I personally had some sort of sandwich the first visit. Don't recall exactly what it was but it was pretty good! Another night I decided to order their hawaiian pizza since I heard it was different than any other. Well, it came out with maraschino cherries on it, along with the standard ham and pineapple. It was surprisingly delicious and even had a drunken friend say "it saved my life". Wouldn't know about any food or drinks, but service and ambiance in my opinion was worst I've ever experienced anywhere. Stopped in for a drink and bite with my Asian/American GF while traveling, was around the time things started to reopen from COVID. Place had a few customers but not at all busy, grabbed 2 seats at bar sat for 20 minutes completely ignored with no acknowledgement, or even eye contact. Bartender by name of Rodney complete with his Confederate Flag ball cap was present behind bar entire time, chit chatting and serving other customers while blatantly ignoring us. Stopped in here New Years Eve day '23 with some friends for a few libations before naps and NYE. The staff was really good and attentive. The owner was behind the bar and let us sample a new pizza she was working on. Made us feel at home right away and enjoyed our time talking with her and the staff. Had breakfast before we came here so didn't eat other than the pizza and a cup of chili. Were on a chili trying binge that weekend. They had a really nice outdoor area that looks like it would be fun in the summer. If you're in the area, stop in. Especially on a summer night. read more

Visited last night with friends, had their deep fried mushrooms and chicken wings to start. Pretty basic starters, then went with their pizza. I have to say I was quite surprised as the pizza ranks up their with some of the best I have ever had. Ordered a pepperoni, sausage and green peppers, very good! And they have a full bar and selection of beers to go with your order. Not always in the neighborhood but it's worth a visit. Typical northern bar atmosphere, with a pool table too! read more

Came here for our first visit and had the Beaver nuts, some great beer on tap, a Tennessee mudslide shot that was delicious, a Greek salad and a ruben. The food was good and the atmosphere cozy. We will be back. read more

We are new to town and live a block from the bar, we ordered pizza from there a dozen times. One Saturday night we decided to stop in for a drink, we sat at the bar and the service was great! Service - Terrible. My Sister lives near here, and I visit her once or twice a month. We've been here a few times for our lunch outings together, and not ONCE has the service ever been enjoyable. Not once. EVER. The last straw was - the waitress was visibly impaired and completely aloof, out of it. Oh, not by alcohol either. My late husband was a drinker, I know all about that. This lady was on something else. And it was very obvious. Food - Mostly already prepared/frozen (chicken in the pita is GFS/Sysco dropped in a vat of hot grease and thrown onto a pita). Pretty much everything is deep fried, or so processed, you'll leave feeling more bloated than a corpse. The pizza is their winning ticket, but even that is very thin crust & greasy beyond belief. Its not thats the pizzas so good that keeps people coming back, there is literally no competition nearby. If there was, this place would've been out of business eons ago. Location - Out of the way from pretty much everything. Nothing else in Comins to see. Bathrooms - terrifying. You get to wash your hands in the hallway. Parking - Not much. Its hard for us to get in and out of our car due to our age. You can park at the curbside, but those spots are usually taken, or on the side of the building, unpaved and uneven. Atmosphere - Now here's where you got me. Its a po-dunk little hole in the wall, loud music, locals aplenty. People watching extravaganza. Its like people of walmart, but in a little bar in Comins, basically. read more

If you ever want to go to a bar where the staff is rude, the food is over cooked & you get fucked over on a $100 pull tab winner than this is the place to go. It was one bad thing after another. The burger was so overdone that it was hard to swallow. The staff served you great if you were a local but didn't give two shits about anyone else. This bar shouldn't be allowed to have any lottery inside since they like to give you $100 less than you won. The staff can't do simple multiplication on a pull tab that was a $10 winner with a 10x kicker (10x10 = 100). The owner instead argued with us & didn't give us the $100 we had won. It's ironic how all these reviews were 5 stars (which is why we went there) to have it be the worst bar experience I've ever had. Don't have lottery if you can't fucking count & don't treat your paying customers who just want a good meal like shit because they're not a local. I will NEVER go back. read more

This is my first time in the area and who knows when I'll pass through again. When my friend recommended to me the Knot Hole Bar, I went in skeptical. The parking lot covered in ice from the recent snowfall, I could see animal tracks amongst the human foot prints. I walked in and everyone turned to look at me. A small bar in a small town means it's easy to be noticed. However once they glanced at my girlfriend and I, we were already at our seats. The bar. The bartender grabbed my girl a soda and I had a Horny Monk by the Petoskey Brewery. I had never tried a Petoskey beer before but now was as good a time as ever. I drank it all but I wasn't too find of it. Not a fault if the bar though, just what happens when you live trying new beers. They're not always your favorites. Then we placed our orders. Both had burgers. She had a simple Knot Hole Burger with cheese. Mine was the Lumberjack burger which had bacon, jalapeños, onions, and Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce on it. Or burgers and fries were delicious. Truly a good cut of beef and cooked with care. I had a good vantage point of the back kitchen from where we sat. I only saw one other woman/person besides or own bartender but both were so on their game and taking care of business. I felt well taken cater of. My girlfriend felt that too. The location itself was pretty nice. The inside decor was typical but clean and with a couple televisions. A pool table awaited eager fans of the sport but none were present. I would absolutely recommend this place to others and I will surely come back if I ask ever in the area again. If this place is on your way somewhere during your travels, then go in, order something, and enjoy. We sure did. My only regret was not following up the first beer with a bottle of Bell's Two-hearted. I saw a patron enjoy one as I left. As a craft and draft beer guy, I didn't think to ask what was bottled. read more

Visiting family in Mio, this place was recommended for the pizza. Everything pizza was amazing. We are ordering one for tomorrow too!!

Ok...5 star in the northern Michigan bar category where you find so many places look the same with the same feel and same menu. However, I discovered this place after a round of golf last year while in dire need of a beer and burger and what a great surprise! Outstanding burgers and a cool little bar! Went later in summer with the extended family and everyone liked the feel of the bar and all had good food. I hit the BLT pizza which was terrific! Nice ambiance and great bartender / waitress. Very clean with a very nice variety of beer and top shelf liquor. We now make the 30 minute drive from Glennie every time we go up....at least 4 times a summer. See ya soon Knot Hole! read more

The Knot Hole Bar used to be a great bar to go to. Used to. I understand that it got new owners a while back and the change was not for the better. The last time I went there the pool table lights were off, the staff was rude, and the place wasn't very clean. I won't drink there anymore. read more
