I didn't order food--I could do just as well eating something off the sidewalk, I thought. Inspired by the good reviews here, I went back this week. What a change! New wood paneling on the walls, a very clean atmosphere overall with lots of natural light. And good craft beers. I ordered the chicken-bacon-ranch salad and was impressed. Lettuce was fresh and finely cut, meat was tender and generously portioned, with enough bacon to provide an accent but not dominate the salad. Salads at small bar-and-grill operations are sometimes a dicey bet, but Mio Saloon nailed it. Don't get me wrong--this place hasn't been yuppified. It's still a down to earth small town bar catering to a biker clientele. It also seems to be a spot where locals just meet to have lunch and chat, dragging the kids along. The vibe might be different at night. I get up to Mio a few times a year, and I plan to find out next time I do.

For my first meal here I got the 1/2 lb barbecue bacon cheese burger and chips. Burger qualified as a two hander for sure where the meat was well cooked, very juicy and with nice taste. No overcooked dry burger here. The house wine I ordered was a smooth daily drinker for $5.50 which I could drink all day long. Relative to staff and the facility, this Bar fits the perception of what you think of when thinking of your stereotypical "Up North" bar. Wood on the wall, wood on the ceiling with log beams, Wood accents everywhere to include a live edge wood counter top with log structure in the middle of the bar adjacent to the pool table. Even though it has this rustic design it is a very clean and inviting on the inside adding so much to the overall dining experience. Nice! Aside from the rustic decor, there are quite a few TV's located throughout the bar/restaurant making this a nice place to go for a bite to eat while watching the big game. Relative to staff, very friendly and prompt with good follow up and clearly another strength of this business. Overall, good food at a fair price with a nice casual ambiance is hard to beat, especially on game day. If you are in the greater Oscoda area this is definately a restaurant that should be checked out. This place had a surprisingly decent amount of craft beer on tap. I think I was drinking some sort of IPA from Rochester Mills or Griffin Claw. Beer was cold and priced very well. During my few days in Comins, I visited Knot Hole probably 4-5 times. While we all mostly drank up there, we did order some food. I personally had some sort of sandwich the first visit. Don't recall exactly what it was but it was pretty good! Another night I decided to order their hawaiian pizza since I heard it was different than any other. Well, it came out with maraschino cherries on it, along with the standard ham and pineapple. It was surprisingly delicious and even had a drunken friend say "it saved my life". At any rate, I am making my yearly trip back up here soon and am definitely stopping by again!
