It's a two-lane bridge and traffic for the most part isn't that bad, although, rush hour can definitely take a toll when it occurs. For the most part, I've never had any issues coming across in either direction, with no incidents occurring, and I also noticed people driving smoothly on it. The view on the bridge is beautiful to look at, with a wonderful view of the Bear Mountain State Park looking west and east, Anthony's Nose viewpoint, and of course the Hudson River. Take a moment to enjoy what's surrounding all around, as this area is covered by mountain ranges and picture opportunities. Also, there is a sidewalk on each side of the bridge. Enjoy it and be safe.

It's got this really spooky, abandoned vibe. If someone were filming a post apocalyptic farm scene, or a creepy spooky movie, this would be a good place to do it. We didn't see anyone else while we were there. The mansion looked slightly decrepit, and everything had a shabby, timeworn look. There's a really decent set of trails that wind throughout the property, but they're not blazed very well, or at all really. It's mostly a matter of keeping to the map and wandering around the wide trails. My biggest complaint is the mixed messages on the allowance of dogs. The webpage says that dogs are welcomed, on leash. Once you get there, there are signs that say dogs aren't allowed. It would be nice if the parks department could get their messaging straight on that.

This marker is located in the parking area of the Stormville Rest Area on I-84. I was at the…read morewestbound rest area so it's possible that there is a matching marker at the eastbound rest area across the way. The marker is a bit chipped and faded. The marker reads, "Fishkill was a center of civil and military operations during the American Revolution. New York State's first governing body met in the village's churches during 1776-77 and drew up the first state constitution. "South of Fishkill, centered in the Van Wyck homestead was the largest American army supply depot in the north. Relatively safe from British attack, the Fishkill supply depot included dozens of buildings, shops and warehouses. Its strategic location at the hub of transportation made possible the provisioning of American forces operating over a wide region. The depot also served as a staging area and winter encampment. Washington, Horatio Gates, and other important military leaders were associated with the supply depot and Enoch Crosby, the alleged model for the hero of James Fenimore Cooper's novel, The Spy, was interrogated at the Van Wyck house and imprisoned in a hatter's shop in Fishkill." The marker was erected in 1974 by the New York State Education Department, the New York State American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, and the New York State Department of Transportation. Came here in a rainy Saturday with my kids in tow. The place is very quiet and we had the whole…read moreplace pretty much to ourselves. There were three computers available, one with preloaded kids programs, the other two standard internet connected windows computers. There are plenty of tables, games, LEGO's and of course books. The employees are super nice and it was a great way to entertain the kids for a few hours. I can only speak on the children's room. I didn't spend any time in the main area, but the kids room suited my needs perfectly.

Unfortunately, I have recently felt uncomfortable there…read more Whenever I walk in, the same person at the front desk is always complaining to a colleague about another colleague (this is every time I walk in) while still wearing gloves and a mask. It just isn't the most welcome place that it used to be. It's almost like your intruding on their (inappropriate) colleague conversations, instead of the warm welcome I used to get when I entered.

I was blown away by my wonderful experience at the Beekman Library. I went there to sign up for a…read morelibrary card and every staff member was so helpful and pleasant. I was welcomed to town and received a helpful Welcome Bag. I was able to quickly sign up for my card and then I was easily able to use the e-catalog (after a brief tutorial from the staff). The library is clean, well maintained and felt very "community minded". Though the range of books is small anything you are looking for can easily be requested from their library system. Coming from a very large library system where no one ever looked me in the eye much less greeted me by name - this library rocks! As a bonus, they were having a book sale in their basement and it was a great place to pick up a few books I had been looking for while supporting this great community resource. It took the persistent white settlers five years to finally buy the land that would become New…read moreFairfield, CT from the Schagticoke Indians. When all was said and done the purchase price was agreed at sixty-five pounds sterling. This marker tells the detailed history of New Fairfield, from that 1729 purchase, its 1740 incorporation, and through the ensuing decades of farming, industrial, power plant, residential and recreational use. This is a 2-sided marker from the CT Historical Commission in the familiar white lettering on a blue background. It has different inscriptions on each side. You'll find it on a small town green where Routes 37 and 39 cross in New Fairfield. The marker was dedicated in 1979 and overall is in very good condition with traces of minor chipping at the top of the marker sides. The full inscription reads: In the year 1724 twelve men from Fairfield, Connecticut , came to this area to purchase land from the Indians who then inhabited it. They negotiated with Chief Squantz of the Schaghticoke tribe, who lived near the pond in this town which still bears his name. Returning in the spring of 1725 with the necessary documents, they learned that Chief Squantz had died, but his four sons and heirs refused to sign any deeds. Four years later, on April 24, 1729 the Indians finally deeded the land to the white men. The purchase price was sixty-five pounds sterling. This tract of land, together with a prior grant known as "Mitchell's Purchase", became the Town of New Fairfield. The original town comprised what was commonly called the "Upper Seven Miles" - now the Town of Sherman, and the "Lower Seven Miles" - the area that forms the present Town of New Fairfield. The town was incorporated in 1740, and the twelve "Proprietors" carried on civil affairs. When the first meeting house was built in 1742 by the South Society of New Fairfield (later known as the Congregational Church) it also served as the seat of government. In 1759 the civil government was separated from the Church and a town hall was built. During the early part of the 19th century, New Fairfield, always an important farming community, also developed as a sizable industrial center. In the 1860's there were at least a dozen business and manufacturing enterprises, but by 1900 most of these firms had moved elsewhere or had been liquidated. After the creation of Candlewood Lake in the late 1920's by the Connecticut Light and Power company for hydro-electric generation, this rural town gradually became a desirable residential and resort area.
