The Croton Library is close to our usual NY stomping grounds, but we hadn't been, so we took one weekday afternoon to check it out. I'm very glad we did, since I think this is now my favorite library in New York, and definitely on the Top Five list period! The library looks small on the outside, but don't be fooled by its commonplace appearance. While it may lack the grandeur of others of its kin, step inside, and you'll see a gorgeous space with an ample children's section, hundreds of DVDs and audiobooks, and shelves upon shelves of adult fiction and nonfiction sections. You could easily spend all day just browsing the stacks - never mind even getting around to reading! I was especially delighted to come across a hard to find book about the making of Pulp Fiction, and enjoyed getting lost in the world of Tarantino while I sat in one of the comfy chairs they have for reading! Shout out to library page extraordinaire, Julian, for his impeccable customer service and helpful friendliness when we had a zillion questions about random and obscure books. As other reviewers have said - there's not enough good things to say about this library! Truly awesome!

We've attended a couple of their scheduled events. The beautiful, modern, minimalist auditorium incorporates the surrounding landscape seamlessly. Excellent acoustics and high-end electronic equipment help the speakers and performers give their best. A recent sold-out lecture by Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer was inspiring, challenging and warmly entertaining. It was followed by a marvelous chamber music concert featuring a collection mostly contemporary works influenced by a connection with nature. Grace Farms' mission is to support nature, arts, justice, community and faith. It's a much-appreciated place to refocus and refuel in these difficult times.

I tend to be a bit claustrophobic; therefore, the cramped quarters of this library did not help me enjoy a relaxing browse of it's holdings. I must confess that it's audio book collection looked a little more robust than I would expect for a small library like this one, but it's holdings were hard to systematically browse with a difficult to understand layout and order. The staff looked busy and probably did not have time to notice that I looked lost. My bias toward open spaces probably plays a little into a low rating. If cramped quarters does not bother you, you might want to consider giving this library three stars instead of two.

Could spend days there rotating through different study spots Even has an art gallery upstairs with rotating exhibits! Also upstairs is an audio area to listen to vinyl (and extensive collection of vinyls). Lots of outlets in each workspace area. Very clean, plenty of windows for natural light. The bottom floor has a cafe with a lot of food options. You can only eat in the cafe area, but the options are so diverse (sandwiches, pizza, nuggets, small frittatas) and coffee is very cheap as well. Even the cafe area has a section of outlets. Multiple self check-out desks, both on bottom floor near the cafe and on the main floor. Also several help desk stations (bottom floor, two on main floor, and on top floor). My happy place. Makes studying more bearable.

If the workers are providing a service to the community and the library doesn't close until 2pm (which they are getting paid until) then why am ai being told areas are closed at 1:43pm. I had enough time to grab my book quickly and check out, get out of their way. Instead, it became a problem to the women that check out the books and the lady next to her, I believe she receives the returns (lady with curly puffy hair ). This is ridiculous. I suggest you guys update your hours so this isn't a future problem or get workers who actually stay their whole hour shift.

Located in the heart of "downtown" with…read moreplenty of free street parking available, the library is perfectly situated between what used to be the old firehouse (now OHHO) and other businesses (real estate offices, nail salons, the deli, etc.). I have been coming to the BFL since I was in pre-school. I attended book clubs here, participated in writing competitions, and every summer, I looked forward to the summer reading challenge. I have wonderful memories of walking to the library after school ended at BVES and scavenging through the place searching for my next book. In middle and high school, I would beg my parents to drop me off at the library so I could do work upstairs at the comfortable desks. The BFL has always been a warm, inviting place. I truly have great memories here and appreciate everything they do for the community. Libraries are so essential, and this place is extra special. All of the individuals who work here are friendly and helpful, as well!
