This is a very knowledgeable range. They have a store with guns and ammo. Two separate indoor ranges, and they offer various courses, and will accept recommendations for other courses if they feel them to be important. They are exceptional at answering questions pertaining to firearms. They do offer conceal carry course courses for an Indiana License . The staff members are friendly. Check to see if they are open on the day of visits. I like this range. read more

The reason for the 4 is easy, staff seems great, helpful and knowledgeable. I travel nationwide, stop at many ranges. The the selection of for sale firearms is far less than the rental firearms. yet, the rental pistols are not kept very clean. lady at the front desk tops both men, she was personable with customers and carries great information to the customer. I am sure she out sells the men 2 to 1. now the reason for the 4, the range could be better served with some sound dampening and better ventilation. safety wise 100% Range safety officer was on top of everything. I got my first firearm there and I really liked their unlimited option which helped me zero in on which one to get (which ended up being a glock 19 gen5). The ones who are there are pretty friendly and even helped me find which one to get through recommendations on various things for example which kinds would be good for concealed carry and which are more/less customizable. With select models they even helped install things for me in my case they switched the sights on the same day since I bought the sights at the same time. The staff at this range are great especially if it is your first time at a gun range and your nervous. My husband daughter and I went there not knowing anything. They had someone with us the entire time he was great. My husband and I then took a gun safety class John and Marty are fantastic and helpful. We were less nervous this time. Cold reception. They acted like I was going to rob the place. Don't expect a grand entrance but a pleasant "hello" would be nice.

As of July 2015 Kodiak is the only private range in South Bend - Mishawaka area. Without it you have to go all the way to Midwest Gun & Range in Elkhart, which is a good 20 minutes away. The pistol range open to the public allows you to place your target at up to 50' distance. Considering most people (civilians anyway) train to shoot pistols at 20-30', it's good enough. The facility is relatively new, and about a year ago it underwent renovation. It's clean, well lit, and looks almost freshly painted. They used to have a private range with steel targets, but whether it's still available is unclear. Pricing for lane use and shooting supplies is fair, although you can save a considerable amount of money if you bring your own ammo. Their 9mm ammo is currently $20 for a box of 50. Their rental stock is pretty good and they have most of the popular brands and models, allowing you to try before you buy. Check their website for the full list. Keep in mind that if you rent you'll have to buy their ammo, so factor that into the total cost. The gun store itself is rather small, so it's limited to the most popular manufacturers and several other lesser known brands. Pricing is fair for the most part, but obviously they can't compete with the big store on the other side of town when it's having a promo. While they sell some AR, the firing range allows pistol calibers only at the moment. They have training available on site, although you need to sign up in advance. Since they rent and sell the most common models of handguns, this is a good one-stop-shop for new shooters. Get some training, try different kinds of pistols, then settle with one that fits you and your purpose. The staff is always friendly and in general quite knowledgeable about what they are selling. They appear to be genuinely gun guys, not just any old store employees that rings the register. All in all it's a good place. read more

Buyer beware. All sales are final. Don't expect any consideration even for a simple exchange that, upon further reflection, might be a better fit for you and your equipment. The staff is knowledable and the indoor shooting range is okay but stricter enforcement of range rules would be nice to see. They have lost my future business which will be hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars by not putting the customer first. read more

Staff was very rude attempting to say my brother and I were waving our pistols at people, then when my brother got hot brass down his shirt and turned 90 degrees with the pistol still pointing down range they attempted to kick us out even though we were already leaving due to the disrespect not even a minute before. Banned us which doesn't matter since I'm never going there again due to the untrained incompetence of the "range master". I'll be going to a range where I can fire all weapons and is regulated by a trained range master not some idiot who needs to bully new customers to make himself feel adequate. Was shown the video and clearly saw my brother turn 90 degrees and the staff said he turned 360 so they clearly can't tell how to form circles and are too blind to see when a pistol is pointing down range. Will take my business elsewhere to a more competent range master and range cause contrary to their believe they are NOT the only range in the area read more

I've been to Kodiak several times to shoot and every time I have had a great experience, I've never purchased a firearm through them but their prices are competitive and the staff is very knowledgeable. Nice range, good selection of rental handguns for shooting. The price is reasonable but do not have some special pistols in stock for sale. The people there are nice and willing to help you if you are a first time shooter. Definitely recommend go there and try all the handguns out and see what fits you best before you decide to buy one. I stopped in over Thanksgiving break with some family to do so Holiday shooting since we were seeing some relatives that we couldn't stand later that night. Wise choice. The expense was $24 for three people since we had our own gear and ammunition. Extremely courteous staff who set the bar for customer service. Facilities were clean considering it is a gun range. Although crowded; many of the customers were overtly polite with each other which I feel is the general attitude of the business altogether. I highly recommend this place. read more

These guys are amazing. The first time I showed up I had no real experience with firearms or ranges and they walked me through everything. Perfect place for anyone who knows basically nothing about guns and wants to learn. Seriously, I've never run into people friendlier than the guys at Kodiak. The first time I walked in three different friendly guys greeted me, answered my battery of semi-idiotic questions, and gave me pointers on how to shoot. I later took a class on handguns with one of the instructors and learned a lot (I'm still a terrible shot), but I improved a lot and learned far more than I expected from just a couple hours. I've been doing business with Kodiak for about 3 years now. Recently though, I decided to up my skills in terms of being a concealed carrier of a firearm, by taking the Defensive Pistol classes, level I, II, and III, on consecutive days. I usually tell people I am much closer to being a beginner with firearms than an expert. I thought I knew something about personal self-defense, but this course showed me I knew a lot less than I really did. Day 1 was rather basic, but day 2 & 3 were awesome. I learned so much from John Pemberton on how to actually defend my own person if it ever comes to it. I can't recommend this course and John enough. If you carry a pistol for self protection or to protect others, you need to consider this course. Best $300.00 I may ever spend. The countless repetitions in learning to move, draw your pistol, get your firearm on target, and fire, are priceless. The 5 scenarios that I took part in on Sunday showed me what I learned throughout the 3 days, and what I needed to improve on. If someone had gotten me this 3 day package for a Christmas gift, it would have been the best gift ever. read more
