For my brief readers: This is the hidden gem you are looking for in terms of Korean food within South Ogden. It's homey and quiet, with awesome food that is as authentic as can be. For my in depth readers: Off of Washington blvd and on 40th south, there is a hidden gem on the south side of Ogden. There was a small little place that you wouldn't even recognize as a restaurant until you walked up to it. But let me say, you are missing out by not going here. The food is authentic and fantastic with the sweetest people working inside. I couldn't tell you the name of what I ordered but it was spicy chicken with vegetables and rice cakes and it was phenomenal. With all of my heart and soul if you love Korean food then you have to stop here. You'll probably be paying around $20 per plate and they do offer a fair amount of sides as well. Absolutely love this place!! Some of the most authentic Korean food I have had in UT. We love their bulgogi, kalbi short ribs, and their veggie pancakes. It is always a treat whenever we go here. The restaurant is a little small, so they fill up quick. There are a couple chefs in the back and only one waitress most of the time: patience is key. It is totally worth it though! Best Korean food I've gotten in Utah, and that's saying something. Owners definitely know what they are doing, sweet older women, likely in their 50's-60's. The restaurant itself is always clean and has a nice atmosphere for the most part, kind of small but real nice place for lunch or a causal dinner date. Me and my pops have spent a lot of time and money here, and for good reason. Not a single thing I've ordered off their menu has disappointed and I would say I've ordered about 2/3 of their items. Food is good if you can wait long enough to get it, service was awful. I called ahead and asked if they could handle our group of 16 people and they said yes. There were only 2 people there, a server and a cook and the server didn't speak English. It took forever for us to order due to the language barrier, and the girl had several other tables to take care of. We waited about an hour with no food and some of us had tickets to a play nearby and were anxious about the wait. It took another 20 minutes for 1 person to be served, then another 10 minutes for a few more but by then, some people got up and left. Wow, what a gem! I almost didn't go inside when pulling up because the building is just a house and a little unkept facing the street. I'm sure glad I did! Service was fast and friendly. This is my favorite restaurant, so when we went out for a little self-care, it was my pick. Small cozy and just right for enjoying another person's company. It wasn't the same as it usually is. I noticed too late a little sign on the table that, due to the rising food costs, you had to ask for the accompaniments such as lettuce, pickled radish and bean paste. Seems reasonable. Our server didn't seem overly happy that I didn't order it ahead. Oops. She also chastised me for making more work for her when I stacked what I thought were the appetizer plates with the empty gyoza dish. The gyoza and sauce was perfect. Ordered the beef bulgolgi because it's the happiest comfort food and diabetes friendly. It was delicious as always, but I was disappointed because I remember it coming with a bunch of sides and sauces. My favorite is the seasonal selections such as garlic tops, sweet potato, etc. Today all we were brought was just meat, lettuce, pickled radish and the paste. Really missed the kimchi. Nothing was wasted, practically licked the plate. Chalking up the change to Bidenflation. Not happy about it. But still going to support this little restaurant. There's heart and soul in every bite. Oh this restaurant is so good and brings home the flavor. I was surprised with its authentic preparation. Anytime there is a chill in the air, I am in the mood for Soon Dobu. A soft tofu stew with pork and seafood. I guarantee you, it will clear up your sinuses. So I can't give it a full five because of the ambiance. I don't mind casual dining but the dining room is cramped. The patio could be great but not well maintained. However, my soup was so good I ordered the bulgogi to go. I was impressed they captured a smoky flavor to the meat. Traditionally, it is best with coal bbq. I suggest order the "sides" to go with it. I am used to complementary panchan but this is a restaurant in a small city. Props to Hannah for being a great front person, server, and cashier. For all I know she might do some of the cooking since I was on the patio. She was on top of everything and maintained a friendly demeanor. Ya roll up, and it looks like you are pulling up to grandmas house... there is a parking lot but don't let the exterior fool you! This place is a classic "hole in the wall" spot! Ya know, that's hole in the wall you always hear about... SUPER AUTHENTIC & SUPER FLAVORFUL! It's very small inside and can be tricky if you have young and loud or rambunctious kids (like I do!) bc it's so small in the dining area, even the quietest noises seem loud and over powering! Pro tip: We came just before dinner time and there were only two other patrons there at the table beside us. So if you are bringing kids, plan for before or after normal eating hours to have a little more privacy. We ordered BEEF BULKOGI and it was DELICIOUS! It's sweet, like teriyaki. It comes with an infused rice that looks purple (and very interesting and fun for kids!) The rice was perfect! As to be expected. We also ordered the SAUSAGE SOYBEAN STEW. It came out boiling hot and was so packed with flavor! It's a tad SPICY so be prepared for that. Nothing our kids couldn't handle but still...(keep in mind that Koreans refer to hotdogs as sausage. So the soup has breakfast ham and two different types of "sausage" AKA hot dogs in it. The broth flavor is UNBEATABLE though. The pickled onions were yummy! We will definitely be back and we want to try more things on the menu. Prices in the double digits so expect that. Really everything is over $10 nowadays... so no surprise there but yea.. We planned take out so we wouldn't have to wait since the restaurant is small, but there were plenty of tables available... now we know for next time. We got the spicy pork bulgogi which was amazing and I would order over and over again. We also go a kimchi soup and a japchae. I didn't like the kimchi soup at all, but not a big surprise there as I'm very picky on my kimchi flavors. It was just too strong for me. The japchae was delicious, but the spicy pork bulgogi was significantly better in our opinion. All was tasty and we would recommend based on your personal taste preferences though. read more
