This place had the best naan I've ever had. It looked and tasted like it just came out of the oven. Very fluffy with and tasty when paired with the delicious saag aloo. Tried the tandoori chicken too which was a tasty, spicy dish. Chicken was juicy and well seasoned. The waiter was also very friendly. He even offered us complementary gulab jamun. They have a lot of weekday lunch specials for those that work around there - where each meal comes with free naan and soup. Their dinners are quite expensive though. Had their holiday/Saturday menu, we had to pay for all the naan and rice, but it was great. They give huge portions and the curry tastes amazing. They gave us soup even though we weren't supposed to get it for free (it's because my friend who I went with is a regular). I have a friend that likes to come here for lunch on a regular basis, and I will tag along from time to time. It's a small Indian restaurant with a great eat-in lunch menu that includes soup and rice or naan. The issue I have with this place is the inconsistency in the service and the quality of the food. Sometimes the food is great and the service is fast. Other times it seems that you have the service very slow and you have to ask for every single little thing, which seems to just annoy them and make the service even slower. Also, although the lunch specials are a reasonable price (although the portion can be a bit on the small side), the dinner pricing is pretty expensive for what you get. read more

Nice little restaurant with great service. We had no problem with time, but we did let them know that we planned to be out the door in half an hour after ordering. Got our food in 15 minutes. Bit pricey for lunch. $5.50 lunch special that they sometimes advertise on a sign outside is a decontented lunch special you probably won't order (soup, green salad, naan).... the majority of the other lunch specials are $7.50 to $8.50 in price. I don't eat spicy food, and I found the "Medium" in the Chicken Mushroom Curry ($7.50) to be not spicy at all. Watch out for the upsell. Particularly things like "Did you want any Naan?" because it does cost extra. read more

I have mixed feelings about my experience here. The lunch menu is priced well, with most items under $10. The quantity of food is a bit on the small side for me, but for $7.50, what did I expect. I was impressed by the tablecloths and cloth napkins. I can't remember the last time I was at a restaurant with cheap eats and folded white cloth napkins. The service was a bit bizarre, imho. The server, who may have been the owner/manager, gave a pretense of politeness but often came across as a bit surly and defensive. My lunch companion asked for rice and naan, but the server brought only naan and claimed based on his notepad that he had only ordered naan. I sat next to him and heard the order. I know my friend ordered rice and naan. But whatever. The naan is pretty good though and made in-house. Overall, the food was good and flavorful. I just don't know what to make of the service. Weekday lunch special is excellent. Food is delicious, good quantity, and cheap price. The Chicken Patia is my personal favorite. The Nan bread is some of the best in town as well. Service on the other hand is not the best. Lots of times I feel like they're just rushing to get you out the door so they can fill another table. I've been here twice, and the food was great both times! Being from the San Francisco Bay area, I'm not new to Indian food. On my business trips to Waterloo, this is the place I head to when I want Indian food. The chef and waiters are all friendly as well. The food tasted decent. That is the only positive thing I can say. I can understand being a bit understaffed on Boxing Day and service taking longer than, but this was ridiculous. When we (a group of 4) walked in, there was only a table of 3 and a table of 2 already seated. Other than that, the restaurant was completely empty. We wait 5 minutes to be seated, then 20 minutes after that before our orders were taken. The server who seated us and took our order was rude and barely acknowledged our presence. By the time he took our order, there were only 2 other people in the whole restaurant. Our drinks took another 20 minutes, for a total of 45 minutes from walking in to get a tea, a beer, and a pop. The draught beer was flat and warm. Three people waiting for take out orders had since come in. The food finally arrived at about the 95 minute mark and was looking lukewarm, at best. No one came to check on us after the food arrived until we were done eating. We had only decided to go to Koh I Noor because Empress of India was closed. So i literally just came back home from this restaurant and the reason for the 4 stars, is simply because of the customer service. The man here made us feel welcome and he was very social and had a sense of humour.. honestly.. I probably won't come here again though.. Why? Because.. the portions are way to small for what you get. The flavour and taste is really good, but for what your paying for, it's not worth it, but I'm glad I got to experience it otherwise. Here is what I oredered: Butter Chicken - it was good but I've had better .. it was a Bit too sweet for my likings and had like a coconut creamy sweet taste.. still good but it is Not Authentic. I have left overs here and I will be eating it. I wouldn't order this if you want Authentic 'Butter Chicken'. Chicken Tikka Zalfrezy - If you like ginger, you will love this.. it has a lot of gravy, just like yhe butter chicken, but totally different in taste.. it was way more spicier as well.. the man warned us about that but I wouldn't say it was out of this world spicy.. it's in between Medium/ High.. more so Medium but flavorful. Garlic Naan (with Extra Ghee of course) - The Naan was very floury and puffy and buttery (I didn't see any garlic on it.. but Meh) it was different compared to other Naan (Very Thick).. I prefer it less puffy but I still enjoyed it, while dipping it in the sauces. White Basmati Rice - it came free with our meal, nothing to complain about, it was just plain unseasoned white rice. I tried Indian beer for the first time and I Love Indian food.. why haven't I tried it sooner? I regret not trying it sooner. It's a good beer, hopefully they sell it in the beer store because Yeah, I eouldnt mind having one or two. I recommend this plates if your wallet has time to spare and you do not care for bigger portions of food. It's more like fine dining portions but I say it was worth the experience. The menu talks about how many carots a jewelry item had and I couldn't remember much of it, but the history was very interesting to read. I recommend this place. read more

We ordered for dinner on a Friday night and had the food delivered to our house. I was surprised to see how small the bag was for an expensive order of around 75.00. The portions were pretty small compared to other places we've ordered from. We divided up our food anyways and decided to just give it a try. They forgot one order of rice. The food was pretty bland and most of the dishes tasted the same. The potatoes were undercooked and the peas were too. It was pretty disappointing and I'll never eat here again. read more

Hands down the worst Indian food I've had! I ordered butter chicken with a side of eggplant, thinking who can really mess up butter chicken? I'm not a picky eater by any means and I could not eat my food. They had put sweetened coconut throughout the dish, so it was extremely sweet and crunchy as well. This is one of the best Indian restaurants I have been too. There nan bread is so soft and fluffy which is made in a true tandoori oven. There butter chicken is not like traditional butter chicken as it is sweet due to the mix of shredded coconut but I can assure you it is absolutely amazing. Ordered delivery from this place via skip the dishes. Very carefully picked chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani and nan. Hands down worst chixken biryani ever made by anyone. I almost immediately realized upon opening the box the weird smell that rice hd which usually sticks to rice when its cooked a couple days back and have been reheated. On top of that birgani is a total joke. With no spices or trace of any effort put into making biryani thw way ot ahould be, it was simply white rice mixed with some gravy chicken. As if some leftovers from previous night were served in the name of chicken biryani. Then came the turn of chicken tikka masala. Never ever ever go to a place where chixken Tikka masala is made with crunchy coconut based gravy. Just dont. My dad runs an Indian restaurant back home in India and I know a thing or two about gravys. White or red but yes i know there is no coconut crunch in a tikka masala dish. Who did you hire for your kitchen? Clearly no sense of spices or ingredients that go into each dish. Just one request to future patrons. Avoid this place at every cost. Not worth it. Better buy a chicken sandwich from Tim Hortons right at the corner but dont eat this so called Indian food. read more

This restaurant recently changed owners, and the new ones are really trying. We were here for lunch and had the Butter Chicken and Balti Cicken dishes with rice and Naan. The Butter Chicken was deeply flavourful, thick gravy with lots of chicken. Standout though was the Balti Chicken with a deep brown tomato, parsley sauce, and complex flavours without being spicy. The Naan was some of the best we have had, the perfect balance between crispy and doughy. The service was utterly attentive, and our server mentioned intriguing items to be added to the menu from the owners' Nepalese background in the coming weeks. If the new owners can keep up this level of quality, Koh I Noor will be our favourite Indian restaurant in KW. read more

Nann was also fantastic, tasted like they made it in house. only wierd thing was the service; it came off as warm and welcoming one moment and then pushy the next. we had a coupon for 1 entree half off and they were really insistent on getting the meal for two for 30$, even when we said a few times we didn't want that. probably will be coming back though, I'm already missing their incredible lamb curry with homemade cheese read more
