We've tried out Koi Express in Somerset 4 different times with take out since it has opened.... Tried it 4 times b/c it's really good and accurate every single time we order over the phone. They always are polite and repeat our order back to us to ensure that accuracy. Quality of the meat is great and you can tell it's cooked fresh and the sushi is so fresh and flavorful! Definitely my go to spot of sushi in town. We gave it a few weeks to let the new wear off. I had reservations on trying Koi Express. If you are making more thing's on the menu than just sushi and only sushi, I tend to take a pass. Well, I was happily impressed! I ordered 4 sushi rolls and each one was absolutely delicious. The appearance of my rolls were quite nice and the taste of my sushi was the best I've had since moving to Kentucky. I can't speak for the grill items in the menu, but I will say the sushi is well worth the 50 drive to Somerset. It took them 25 minutes to make my order and I think that was very reasonable. Coming back for more says it all and I do plan to be back for more, without a doubt. It was very tasty and filling. Well done guys! read more

Had a craving for chicken fried rice , and I had it last time and wasn't impressed they drown the rice in oil and no taste So I turned in to the parking lot , parked walked inside and the inside was almost as hot as the outside was . I ordered chicken fried rice and the rice was good with an abundance of green and white onions , sadly there was little to no flavor ,chicken was skinny strips and then they put in a sauce container I guess for the chicken it tasted like chick fil a sauce . Good news was the rice wasn't drowning in oil . Very disappointed that there was no soy sauce in the Togo bag . Would be nice if they stir fried it with some spice selections for the price they charged $12.00 plus tax . I don't know if I'd go back again not impressed at all read more

We've dined here twice recently and I kick myself for overlooking it in the past. The setting is small at the end of a row of shops and easily missed. Don't you dare!! The menu selections offer a variety of grilled meats and seafood served in the traditional Japanese style with rice and vegetables. Sushi is also available but we didn't indulge. Everything we ordered was served fresh and delectable. The servers are friendly, welcoming and attentive. I just wish we lived closer!! But we will definitely be back. read more

We came for lunch today. Wish we had went to our usual spot. The deep fried rolls are battered in flour, making them rubbery and gross. We paid extra for yum yum sauce to have the same worker ask to see our receipt when we asked for it utensils are kept behind the counter, along with soy sauce. The scallop hibachi is white rice that looks old with a ton of frozen carrots that have been warmed up. The shrimp dumplings tasted off and are tiny. Save your money. read more

Godzilla roll really good. If you used to be like me, never ate deep fried sushi, this is the one to start on. 8.5/10 Crab Rangoons These are my favorite appetizers. Koys aren't the typical 4 pointed star style, rather a triangle with a huge pocket of crab Rangoon mix. Also this is their number one item. 9.4/10 Hibachi Steak (NY Strip) This was pretty good, it met my expectations, rice was cooked amazingly, the medium rare steak was of course the best aspect of the whole dish, the veggies where really good but I did not like the onions, undercooked. 7/10 read more

Second time at this place, Finallly a good sushi place in Somerset, KY. This place is great. Super clean restaurant, and friendly staff. They offer a variety of different rolls. However I feel that there may be some education to the uniformed customers base that is predominant here in Somerset, KY. Spring rolls and crab rangoon were probably the best I've ever eaten. However the teriyaki chicken was good but lacked enough teriyaki as did the rice, But over all it was a great meal. Hopefully this place will stick around, as all other business that have went in to the same location have not stayed very long. The Miso soup is very on point, I hope they will offer Hot and Sour Soup in the future as well. I did not try the Hibachi, but it am confident that it would be excellent. The other customers there seem to enjoy it. The down sides are a few factors that are some what beyond the control of the establishment. The parking lot is limited and getting in and out of the place can be a challenge. I think they should in the future expand their food truck (like the one in London) to Somerset as they have no real competition and no restaurants sell quality sushi in Somerset. Genuinely impressed with the quality of food and sushi--much better than anticipated for a place in Somerset. However, the overall cost/meal portions are just not sustainable. My husband and I spent $45 there and left quite hungry. For a faster food type place, that just seems a little silly. Give bigger portions, and I wouldn't be annoyed with the cost. They also charged us .37 for a cup for water. It's tasty, but know it won't last here with those prices/portions. As seen in the picture, this would be a more reasonable lunch portion for a lesser price. Sushi was $14 a roll for only 6 pieces! read more

Hot, fresh and delicious! So happy that this restaurant has arrived. The crab Rangoon's were outstanding. Cooked to perfection with ample filling and fantastic sweet chili sauce. I also ordered the chicken dumplings (gyoza). Of course they were delicious as well and served piping hot. If I wasn't so full I would certainly order more food. I can't wait for my next trip in. Myself and a family member went today. I ordered sashimi, 1 tuna order and 1 salmon order. $6.50×2 2 miso soups, 2 drinks and an order of shrimp balls. Each order of sashimi was 2 pieces. I couldn't eat the tuna as it was room temperature. The shrimp balls were the size small tater tots and numbered 6. The miso was in tiny container cups. Our whole order fit on half a tray. The portion sizes were a little small and the rolls were a little more expensive than other places but they all tasted great. We got the food faster than any other sushi place I've been to. I've eaten there twice and enjoyed it both times. The first time I tried a sushi roll, and the second time I got some hibachi steak. Both were very good and were comparable to a meal that you would get at a more expensive Japanese restaurant where they cook at the tables. They have a friendly staff and got me through the line and my takeout to me pretty quickly given the amount of people there during lunch. Everything was fresh, packaged well (I got takeout both times), and my order was correct. The steak in the hibachi meal was cut into bigger chunks than you usually see and was cooked medium rare like I ordered it. The only drawbacks that I see is the size of the restaurant and portion size. There are less than 10 tables, and not a good area to wait if you're getting takeout. I would recommend calling it in and using the drive thru. You would need to call it in to use the drive thru as it is only for pick ups. Also, the sushi rolls are a bit small for their price. A great Japanese Express place! Ordering and picking up the food went smoothly. The food was promptly prepared and using the drive thru window was a breeze. The food quality and the portion size were good. They use small containers, but they pack a lot into them. I had hibachi steak which came with fried rice and vegetables. The steak was tender and the vegetables weren't overdone. I had so much food, I couldn't finish it. My boyfriend had the Snow Angel sushi. The roll was big and stuffed generously. We both enjoyed our meals and felt the price of the food was reasonable considering the quality of the food and service. We paid about $27 for our meal. My boyfriend is very picky and refuses to go to other Japanese places in Somerset but he stated he would definitely go to KOI Express again. read more
