Koi Pond Brewing may have a smaller beer selection, but what they do offer is well-crafted and enjoyable. The quality definitely makes up for the limited variety. They sell a few snacks on-site, but the best part is that you're welcome to bring in outside food--highly recommend grabbing a pizza from the place right next door. The bartender was super helpful, giving us tips on where to grab food and even sharing info about upcoming events. Friendly staff, average beer. They have a selection of craft beer styles for everyone, but nothing to write home about. Still worth stopping in for a pint if you're at the Mills. It was cool to drink in one of the old mill houses and imagine how things were back then. Decent amount of seating inside, but I can see it filling up in the summer. read more

Stumbled in last week on a rocky mount brewery adventure trip. Really cool little space inside an old house. Cozy but comfortable. My only expose to KP prior to this visit was some sites on tap at Juggheads in Winston-Salem. I was pleasantly surprised that they weren't really an uber-modern leaning brewery from a recipe standpoint. I especially enjoyed their amber ale and new witbier. Service was friendly and quick. A friend and I stopped in for a pint on Friday. The service and atmosphere were both great! I loved how all the their theme carried thru in all of their decor and that they had shirts and hats for sale too. I tried my first radler and it was pretty good; beer and orange for the win! I also sampled a sip of my friend's radler that was made with grapefruit juice which was not for me, but that's ok, she is much more of a grapefruit fan than I am and was very happy with it! Rocky Mount's first craft brewery, Koi Pond, is a cool spot pouring good beer. I was able to try two flights to sample all of the beers on tap during our visit: Silver Star Porter Sunset Saison Kilt of Personality (Scottish Wee Heavy) Double Dragon (Imperial IPA) 10 Coin Day (Belgian golden strong) Angry Squirrel (amber ale) Grapefruit Radler Falls Road Golden Kolsch Boyfriend and I both enjoyed the porter, saison and amber. We were able to grab a table so we could play board games and watch TV. I wish we were able to enjoy the beautiful outdoor area but the weather ruined that. So glad that we were able to check this brewery out while we were in the area. read more

My wife and I accidentally found this place when we were visiting some family in Rocky Mount, NC. This establishment is located in a complex with several other brewery type places. So, there is a lot of free parking for these places. Koi Pond is in a house type of building and is not very large. There is a sitting area with a fire place and a larger room where they had two guys playing guitar and singing on a Friday night. The bar area is pretty small. If it got very crowded, it would be very congested very fast. Most of the beers on tap were cider, porter and ipa. We tried a lager type beer and it was ok. The bartender was nice and seemed to know about the beers. I think they serve food there but we didnt try any. They have outdoor seating with the large kerosene type heaters out there, but none were on when we stopped in. I would definitely go back. read more

Neat little place with mostly outside seating. Beautiful afternoon on the day of my visit with some live music setting up out side. Food trucks and picnic tables. I bought a flight and while the beer was good, it wasn't outstanding. Writing this review several days later I can't even remember what I drank. I know it was two flavored witbiers, an amber ale and something else. With all the breweries in that complex you have to be something special to stand out. The owner and the bouncer are an extremely rude . Without any announcement, they approached us and told us to leave the place because the police is on the way. We had no idea why the police was on the way we were with our kids and families and ready to leave. He became more ridiculous and started yelling for no reason when we were leaving, he kept saying that he owns the place. Found these guys through a groupon, and man where we lucky. My wife and I where browsing groupon looking for a day trip and found an amazing deal, but got so much more out of it. The beer was amazing the owner was at the bar and was beyond friendly. The location is great, I would have never thought such a great little spot full of restaurants and breweries would have been hidden here. This is a hidden gem! We were on our way to Raleigh when we stumbled upon Koi Pond, and I would definitely consider staying overnight just to spend an evening enjoying their brews. We were elated to see that they offered two different Saisons. We each ordered one. I choose the one with basil and she chose the one with a floral note. Had we been headed home, we would have gotten growlers of each, but alas, we had to leave our enjoyment to our short time at the brewery. The bartenders were friendly and quick with their pours. We will certainly be back. From what we were told, they very rarely brew the same beer twice as they only use the available local ingredients.
