In my opinion I would NOT hire Steven Komie his mannerism is in professional and pompous towards the client and the clients family knowing they fly in from out of state just to speak w him in person because he does not return calls He rushes us out w in answered questions claiming he doesn't have time. Which is the whole reason we made an appt to speak with him. He had no respect in the court room from the DAs or from the judge in fact they were sneering at his lament attempt to win a simple motion . And he lied to us and his client(my nephew) saying we'd win by default if the DA didn't respond then changed his story the day of court. Several years ago, I learned federal labor agents were looking to talk to me about embezzlement of union funds. I asked my son what should I do? He said get the best damn federal lawyer you can get your hands on. I called Stephen Komie. His staff immediately took me in and made me feel at home. He coached me on how not to leave society. He took me for an interview with federal agents where he took control of the room. He won over the Department of Labor agent and coached me into a one-count Information with probation eligible. I knew he had communicated well with the judge when he asked for permission for me to travel to Indiana to buy my gas. He understood the culture of the south side of Chicago and the judge. He guided my every step through the Probation Department. He talked the probation officer out of recommending a harsh sentence. His performance at my sentencing hearing was masterful. He persuaded the judge to give me a probationary sentence despite the government's demands for two years in the penitentiary. He even convinced the judge that I should keep my job and pension while donating 200 hours of community service divided between Operation Push and the Pacific Garden Mission. He dominated the room. He had the judge giggling during the sentencing hearing which gave me great comfort knowing that the case was going in the right direction. He even was able to describe my life and times in a way which caused tears to come to my eyes knowing that he really had my best interest at heart. I was reading the reviews posted by clients of Atty. Stephen Komie and his staff. My experience could not be more dissimilar to those comments. 1st, It appears that the writers had unrealistic expectations. This is the law, it's not like ordering a cheeseburger. 2nd, the situation you may have found yourself is not his or his staffs doing. You may have been in an untenable situation. 3rd, your best track is to listen to his counsel and then respond in the best possible way for your situation. To expect a miracle, is not his department. My experience was so much better than any of the stories I have read. My wife and sister in law were in an accident where a motorcyclist, at an incredibly high rate of speed, especially for city streets, crossed into oncoming traffic hitting her head on, she was stopped waiting to turn and the motorcyclist actually hit the furthest point of her car, the passenger's side headlight and fender, destroying her car. My wife and sister in law were not injured because her car was built to be highly survivable in an accident. Thank you Volvo! Sadly, the young man did not survive, he died days later. The state chose to charge my wife with aggravated vehicular homicide, clearly contrary to the physical evidence. Not surprising, in that the States Attorney prosecuted everything that came through her department. Regardless of the logic. Now here's the thing, if you don't get good counsel, and have enough money to afford good counsel, you're screwed! Atty Komie understood immediately what the State intended and countered the charges. It took a few years, we went to trial, but we prevailed against the unlimited funds of local government. Acquitted on all counts. We were very fortunate to have such great counsel. If your experience was not stellar like ours, I think you might have missed something fundamental. No one can work with something that isn't there. The system allows for your defense, and you must be a participant in that process. If you don't understand, ask questions. The legal team we had was responsive, considerate and very informative. Did we have stress? Hell, who wouldn't. But Mr. Komie assured us, this will pass. It did almost to the letter. We were very fortunate to have found this great legal resource.
