I love the open market, everything is fresh and SAMPLES galore. I tried an unusual fruit called Pitaya (sp?). It's yellow and kind of ugly looking on the outside, but when you cut it open, it's white(almost like a kiwi) with black seeds.It was really sweet. Next there was a lady selling fruit leathers,passion fruit, guava and lillikoi, good tasting not to sweet. I found my Warabi! What is that you ask? It's a fern shoot that grows up in the mountains, it's sold at the KCC open market, but I guess because they have to fly it in it's twice the price at KCC. Another vendor (forgot name) was selling, flavored taro chips (wasabi, furikake) and the chip I liked was the crunchy beef jerky chips. Love Hilo and Farmer's markets....Buy LOCAL! (And bring your own bag, otherwise you get charged = bag law)

Among some pork and beef products, there also was a whole rabbit included! Through the 3 months I subscribed, I got the following cuts/meats: -Rib eye steaks (beef) -2-minute steaks (beef) -Italian Sausage (pork) -Whole Rabbit -Thai sausage (pork) -Breakfast patties (pork) -Half a chicken -Porterhouse Steaks (beef) -Rack of Lamb -Lamb riblets -Pork Chops -Aged burger patties (beef) -A sample of spicy bacon -Beef Stew meat -Beef Oso bucco -ground beef There may have been an item or 2 I am forgetting, but these items were split between the 3 months. My favorite items were the rib eye steak, the rack of lamb, and the bacon. My least favorite were the 2-minute steaks (they were not cubed, so were mega tough), the breakfast sausage (gave me indigestion), and the pork chops (my husband and I got food poisoning from this item). I enjoyed the CSA and may subscribe to it again, despite getting sick from the pork, but one of the other difficulties is the price. What we got for $100 a month was nice (some months were a better value than others), but hard to sustain during these difficult times. Overall, I would recommend, though getting sick was a bit of a downer and some people may not want to take that risk.

There is something to be said about the view and the fantastic coffee!!!! Wow was it top tier! It feels like a custom tropical treehouse. We sat around her concrete table as we sipped sample after sample of award winning Kona coffee. On the TV we watched a live feed of the volcano. It was such a genuine experience all the way through. She took the time to walk us around the farm and explain the entire process. So much effort goes into making such a delicious cup of coffee. This place is highly recommended. It has extremely limited hours so be sure to be mindful of that .

We were served several tastings of the coffee (7 or 8 small cups) and every cup was delicious! My favorite was the SL34 and I purchased a purchased a pound and half of it. After the tastings, we were taken on a tour around the farm and processing areas and it was so great to see Leslie treat the workers with love and respect. It was genuinely the best coffee farm we had been to...and we've been to several! The view is beautiful as well. The hours are extremely limited so make sure to make plan to come.

The great thing is that you select how often you would like the deliveries and tell them how many people are in your household, so you aren't getting too much of a good thing. Couldn't resist that offer and very glad we made it. We met Natasha Chang on the first tour of their 4th generation farm and got to see the variety of plants they grow and harvest. Interesting that we both grow loofahs. She sells soap with loofah inside. Cool product. We met Eddy Garcia and learned so much about regenerative farming. He's been sharing his treasure trove of information about composting and using the natural approach to create healthy soil for growing better crops. We learned a lot about organic materials, microbes, fungi, insects, wriggly worms and how to use them to restore non-productive land. We brought home ideas that we can use in our yard and garden. Deashia-Lei Chang then mixed up some delicious poke-kalo for the crowd and demonstrated the technique of pounding kalo for poi. Very interesting and tasty. Thank you for sharing your farm with us!
