    Ripe coffee cherries

This place was INCREDIBLE!!! It's run by very nice people who know a lot about every step in the coffee process, from growing to brewing. If you're a coffee dork like me and looking for a specialty farm on the big island, this place is a must visit!! Elizabeth and her husband, Payman, are Q graders, and know almost all there is to know about coffee, the 3rd/4th wave movements, and the meaning of Ohana. They made me feel like I was an old friend coming to visit the farm. Even if you don't know a lot about coffee, this is a great place to see what specialty coffee is and why it's the future of the coffee industry as a whole. Craig Lee and his wife can also be spotted on site, and the way I understand it, Craig is almost single-handedly responsible for popularizing specialty coffee on the island. It seems like everyone involved in specialty coffee on the island has been under his tutelage at one point or another. TL;DR this is an amazing farm, well worth the price of admission, and I encourage anyone who loves coffee to stop by.

This was an interesting place. When we first arrived it looked like it's some home . But in reality the farm is behind the house and it's pretty large. The staff is knowledgeable and the space was relaxing and coffee was excellent. Definitely will come back

Cant visit the big island till you visit a coffee farm! I felt bad when arriving to the farm because we arrive about an hour before the closed. When we rolled up Craig came to greet us also their dog too! Him and his wife are very nice and welcoming. Craig showed us the farm and had us try the coffee bean straight from the plant. These people love what they do and it definitely shows. We got fresh roasted beans at $20 a bag and it was the best coffee we ever purchased. If you want to know how coffee starts from seeds to your table, hit up this place. You would learn a lot and appreciate coffee farmers a lot more because of the amount of time and care they put into coffee. They also ship to the mainland if you ever run out of coffee.

On our family vacation, we did an amazing coffee tasting at Kona Farm Direct with Liz and met the famous Lucy. Liz was extremely helpful and informative. She answered all our questions and gave amazing recommendations for the rest of the island-everyone of which we tried and loved. The view was gorgeous and the cool weather was a nice break from the heat lower down the mountain. We each bought 2 bags of coffee to take home. Today I tried the Medium-Dark Roast in my espresso machine, and it was the best americano I've had in my life. Do the tasting, and buy all the coffee. You won't regret it.

This is an amazing coffee farm. Buy the tour. Liz gives such an incredible educational tour that you leave understanding the complexities of coffee. You learn about grafting one plant onto another and the varietals of coffee. A local suggested that we not spend money on a coffee tour, but Liz (and her newly husband Chris) made the tour so enriching that we left with an understanding of quality coffee.

A MUST visit if you are in the Big Island! Our concierge desk at the resort recommended this place so we went to check it out. When we drove up, we weren't sure if it was closed or not because we didn't see anyone outside. A lady came out and directed us to follow the sign which led us to a small tasting room, where Leslie, the owner greeted us with a big smile. I was little disappointed, though, because the place seemed bit unkempt, so I was thinking we will just try a cup and leave politely. We started the tasting, and we were like, "this is the best tasting coffee ever!" We are not coffee experts but love coffee and know when we have bad/good coffee. Also not an espresso person, because it's always so bitter, and thought that's how it's supposed to be, but we tried the espresso and it was an eye opener. Aside from awesome coffee, Leslie was such a nice, warm, down to earth host who made you feel at home, not someone who is just trying to make a sale to tourists. We ended up getting many bags of coffee to be shipped home as well as a bag to make coffee during our stay. We live in NJ, and we will definitely be ordering from Kona Farm Direct from now on. As a side note, we also visited another coffee farm the next day, as a part of the Big Island tour package, and there was no comparison!

Kraig, Leslie and Mark were the trio of hospitality! We started with a tour of the farm and Kraig humbly showed us the many parts of growing a coffee plant, unique and award winning varietals and how to graph these tiny plants. We learned a bit about the history of the farm and learned how to dry and store the beans before going inside to gain insight into the world of roasting. Mark and Leslie were a wealth of knowledge and made us smile and laugh when teaching us about roasting techniques. We were provided several tasters of coffee to see which style of roasting we liked and made several batches as we talked about the process. I loved seeing the process from the berries on the tree, to drying them, to roasting them, to watching Leslie bag our coffee and hand it over to us. Mark was a wealth of knowledge and kindly let us pick his brain about tasting notes and even how coffee is judged internationally! After seeing the careful selection of beans and excitement that goes into the growing and then the roasting process it is no wonder Kona Farm Direct Coffee is award winning! I highly recommend stopping here!!

This was my first Kona coffee farm visit and the bar is set high ! Amazing coffee and great hosts.

10/10 would recommend Kona Farm Direct's coffee and tour. Owners and staff truly care about the quality of their products and are passionate about them. We had a awesome tour guide Lucy (pictured) and Liz, such a great learning experience.

Small, lovely coffee farm. One hour tour and tasting. We now understand how kona coffee costs so much. Work done by hand and it shows !

During the tour, we experienced the dry deck, where they dry out the coffee beans. This little guy seemed to be enjoying the beans.

They have samples of everything out in their gift shop, and they're doing some pretty fun stuff - we absolutely bought a couple bars (as usual, I liked the darkest and my wife liked the lightest chocolate the most, but they were all quite good.) I'd give the *tour*, which they only do a couple times a week, so we had to adjust our schedule a bit to make it to one, a 4/5. It was interesting, but you don't actually get to see any chocolate being made, a lot of it was just discussion (albeit: discussion while standing in a production cacao orchard - I'd never actually *seen cacao trees in person, they are pretty cool! Cool, but also full of spider webs.) They also cut open a fresh, ripe, not-processed-yet cacao bean at the end of the tour, and we got to try a little bit (it's delicious - sweet and fruity, nothing like chocolate. I wish we'd gotten to eat a bit more of it, honestly.) It was an interesting tour, not sure it was worth the extra planning it took to be there for it though - other than the fresh cacao fruit, you don't get anything you can't also try in the gift shop any time of day.

We did a 2 day package encompassing the islands most beautiful waterfalls, nature reserves, botanical gardens, volcanoes, beaches coffee farms on old town Hilo. On our first day with Jason our driver and guide picked us up on time and with a smile. He shared his knowledge along the way wearing a microphone in the van so everyone could hear comfortably. At the attractions he was with us giving us history of all the waterfalls. Whiles driving he told us about the sites inbetween. At lunch time he provided us a delicious meal from a local restaurant. Day 2 with our driver Derek was in another new van that was also comfortable and roomy. Derek took us to a working coffee plantation to see, smell and walk through the farm. At Kīlauea volcano national park where we got to see upclose and personal the caldera in all its majesty. All the time telling the history and recent activity of the volcano. We saw and walked on a beautiful black sand beach with segregated sea turtle nesting area where we saw a turtle swimming ashore and resting at waters edge before digging a hole in the black sand to lay her eggs in preparation for the next generation of turtle, we walked down and into a 30 meter lava tube and got to visualize the path of a whole lotta molten rock traveling through centuries before. Culminating the day's trip by stopping on a mountain top in almost complete darkness, the moon was in a waxing crescent and producing very little nighttime light. We bundled up to stay warm in the 50 degree Fahrenheit temperature to stargaze. It was refreshing in the cold air, outside the van huddled in a group while Derek pointed out, planets, stars, constellations and galaxies as we stood in awe of the majesty above us. Wasabi Tours, Jason and Derek were on-time, safe, informative and most of all fun to spend our time with. I highly recommend taking a Wasabi tour to REALLY see the big island. Thank you all!
