I had a really great experience at Kor! My only issue which caused a 4 star review instead of 5 star is the my hair isn't evenly cut on both sides and one is slightly longer. Requires a change in styling so it's nothing super major. The facility itself is clean and there are multiple stations set up for clients. All of the students were pleasant and helped me with checking in. I appreciated as well that the instructor on duty checked in with clients throughout their experience to ensure the beautician was providing quality results. I got this Groupon bcuz I'm all about supporting other upcoming stylist. I would like to say Julia was nice but it is advertised that I would get a scalp massage, I got nothing of that sort at all. I understand this deal is pretty good which I understand but my hair is still damp and maybe the Groupon advertised a blow dry could mean no style but maybe at least getting it completely dry. Communication is everything especially since I know everyone is still learning. The haircut was a super blunt cut, I asked for an inch off, she probably only did 1/2 an inch. Good and bad. It depends on your student. I have gotten several highlights and bayalages here. Always used a groupon so it was worth the gamble for me. The last 2 times my hair wasn't processed long enough and kind of had an orange color. But a little purple shampoo more often helped a bit. Still should have been lifted more. I have had beautiful results as well. I have had students say they are "heavy handed" and hurt me with their harsh combing and handling. No reason to be heavy handed! Use some detangler or a wet brush. Go easier. I won't probably be back as prices are too high now and no groupons lately. I would rather pay a small difference and go to professional. read more

I had a very positive experience at the Kor beauty and highly recommend! They take time to listen to what you want and deliver the best service. The students are very knowledgeable and they are very professional and supported by the instructors on the floor. It might take a little bit longer to get the results of what you are looking for because they are in the learning process but honestly I saw fabulous results from multiple students and I was very impressed by Dominique! She went above and beyond to demonstrate top knowledge skills set that she had learned and applied it on my full weave, and hair cut, as well as blow dry. I really love the results of my blonde highlights and got compliments last night. I also REALLY APPRECIATE how she listened to me and kept my length of my hair and gave me layers. I have a lot to say about this school and none of it is good. If you're looking for inconsistency, dishonesty and lack of care then this is the place for you. Pricing is constantly changing and backwards. On Google there is obviously fake reviews from students I have been serviced by before to improve their ratings which is scummy and if you scroll down they're trying to hide a review where they gave a lady a chemical burn on her scalp and fried her hair, among other poor reviews. If you're a student do not consider this school!!, it went completely downhill, there's absolutely no structure to classes they just throw you in whatever they're "learning" so you will be learning haircutting on your first day rather than anatomy and biology, takes up to month after starting to even receive your kit. The school was OK at first then went completely downhill, they failed to tell incoming students that they were on an accreditation probation, therefore leading current students confused, upset and having to figure it out. They didn't even talk to us asking how we would continue our program after they did this to us.I don't know how they can claim they care so much about us yet did this behind our backs. Went in for a root touch up (my third time in). they had a rate increase it was like $60 for a root touchup. They are getting as pricey as a regular beauty shop and students are providing the service it went up over $10 within a few months. They suggested a highlight next time I have shoulder length hair they said it would be $105. I don't think so! The girl that done my hair just started the beauty college, and for that kind of money I could go elsewhere to a professional. read more

I came in for a trim I called ahead of time to make an appointment on the phone call they said it would be 22 for a haircut with long hair. I go in I really enjoyed the girl who cut my hair she was super sweet but there was little to no supervision the instructors were busy gossiping at the front. Then I got charged 29 I asked for the break down they said it was 13 for the haircut and 7 for a shampoo still didn't add up. She then goes we charged you for long hair. Sounds like she just made up the prices. Also keep in my mind my hair goes just under my shoulders so medium at best definitely not long. Their website says a haircut is 10-15 making the 22 I was originally quoted make sense depending on hair length. read more

I had an amazing experience at the school today!! Ashley is an amazing hairdresser, no scottsdale salon is any better than this . Everyone that works there is very polite, and my appointment went smoothly. Knowledgeable, and delightful!! She sat patiently with a kooky Artist / Guitar Instructor patiently as i wave my hands to talk and looked at pic's of my Art . I am 61 . i draw fake ART tats inside my wrists to remind myself things then wash them off . Isabel has butterfly tats and i will only say that Any staff member there Will treat you fairly . I went in with dark roots that needed to be rebleached and fading pink hair. I requested for all around bleach and wanted a reddish color that would be not so bright as a vivid color. After consulting with the "boss", it was agreed that only my roots would be bleached and since I had pink the other hair wouldn't need to be bleached, just the roots. Fine, perfect I agreed. But when all was said and done my roots ended up looking way darker than I wanted and do not match the rest of the hair. It looked horrible in the chair but they convinced me it was understandable why that happened. I paid and left, because confrontation is difficult for me when it comes to things like this. A week or so later and I look at my hair and I am SO unhappy with it. Because it was put over pink hair the color is not what I wanted it to be. I've gone to schools in the past that do a great job. Next time I will go out of my way for those places because Kor allowed my hair out the door when no self respecting salon would have. I have now been to Kor Academy twice in the last month. Both times I was extremely happy with the outcome. I had a super friendly student name April. She took her time and explained the process of what the plan is to make my hair look vibrant and back to looking beautiful. The instructors are friendly and helpful. Kylie was my stylist. She was so gentle and always asking what I wanted before doing anything. I went there with a request for hidden colored highlights, which was not what I originally made the appointment for. Mrs. Tammy was so great at accommodating my request and instructing Kylie on how to do it. I have gotten so many compliments! My hair came out beautiful! Loved the color poison berry! Will give cookie points to them for checking my hair while it was processing, this is the first place that hasn't burn my hair with discoloration. I would love to post a photo but my hair was never done. I checked in at 1020. My appointment was 1030. At 1045 someone asked another girl who I was. I said I have an appointment at 1030 the woman said casually oh your stylist called out and started to walk away. She said she was too busy to notice if the stylist showed. I would suggest calling before your appointment. There is a sign that says if the customer is late the appointment is canceled but they didn't call me! Very disappointed. I work in the beauty industry(so I know how to be polite and make people feel warmed and welcome) and I bought a Groupon for hair Extension applications and one for hair Extensions through Groupon for the school. I was trying to set up an appointment but Briana told me on the phone it's the same and they both mean application "it's just worded different " and the hair has to be purchased separate which is why I bought both on Groupon and I don't understand why one says application and one says hair extensions if she's claiming they mean the same thing . So this is false advertising on Groupon since Brianna says it both means the same thing which makes no sense at all. I was really excited to get my hair done for the first time as I ALWAYS do my own hair. This would of been my first time ever getting hair extensions but Briana was really rude and made me feel like I just wasted my money. Why would I pay for two applications when it clearly says extensions. Im just over it this place already sucks and I'm not gonna get my hair done and tip in an environment where it's just a negative attitude. She told me to request a refund but I purchased this on Groupon 3 weeks ago so it's too late for a refund. I'm honestly upset I haven't even been here and this place already sucks. Briana hung up on me before even letting me say okay thanks have a good day. I just really cant w negative people and she's so beyond negative it really upset me how rude she was. I'm a manager at Sephora and I wouldn't ever treat a client that way. She tried to tell me her name was Tammy when I asked her name after telling me the owner was Tammy. Ms. D was supervising on the day I went for my Groupon deal for shampoo, scalp massage, cut and deep conditioning. Student Julia was very gentle and patient removing tangles rather than just pulling comb through wet hair which I generally have to remind even the pros at salons not to do, and the resulting cut was just what I was hoping for. I think a timer should be used for the scalp massage and it should be specified when you are getting it or it may just be part of a regular shampoo and rinse since that's sorta massagey but not like a true scalp massage you get at a spa, so that should be clarified. Careful trimming and I appreciated being consulted every now and then re: length. Interesting to hear Ms. D instructing on how to cut a section and then use it as a guide for the other cuts. It's nice to go somewhere and get full attention rather than so many places today where the stylists are on the phone or trying to juggle all their clients and going from one to the other or constantly talking to their co-workers so that you feel you are an afterthought and not the reason they are in business. The location is convenient, next door to a pleasant Japanese restaurant and lovely gemstone shop, and behind a strip mall with lots of stores. It would be handy if some style posters would be placed around to give clients some ideas of the latest and most popular cuts for various lengths of hair, color ideas, suggestions for styles for different shaped faces, etc. Maybe a student project could revolve around setting one up? It would be a good resource for the students and while clients are waiting, they'd have something to think about.
