I have had Korean Garden bookmarked the entire time I have lived in Kansas, so after four years of waiting, my expectations were high. The only reason we ate here is that we landed from Ireland and our bodies were 6 hours ahead of the time, so we could have an early dinner. I drove to JC and saw a full parking lot, a good sign. We arrived at 6:15. We thought it was open until 7:30 PM, but the restaurant actually closes at 7:00 PM and stops taking customers before then except for to go orders. Eric R. was feeling under the weather from our trip, so he ordered the yukgaejang, spicy beef soup. I ordered the dolsot bimibap with octopus. The server initially tried to talk me out of getting octopus, saying it is "too chewy for ladies." However, I really wanted it, and Eric R. told her I have had it before so just let me order it. Five banchan arrived: radish kimchi, broccoli with sesame oil, soy-marinated potatoes, bean sprouts with sesame oil, and cold yam noodle. The server gave each of us a bowl of rice. I knew I should not have received it because I ordered a rice dish, but I sampled some of Eric's soup with my rice since his came out first, filled with delicious egg and green onions. The chef/owner? came from the back and said I should not have received rice, but I already had eaten from it so...too late/not my fault? My dish came out sizzling with vegetables, octopus, rice, and gochujang. The sauce was already mixed in rather than served on the side. Both Eric R. and I were happily sweating and draining our sinuses on these dishes, which were both very tasty and spicy. It was just what we needed! We were able to get refills on some of the banchan too. At 6:45 PM, I noticed the sign in the window was switched to closed, and people were turned away even though the restaurant's hours were til 7:00 PM. I am not sure why this popular place would want to close so early (especially on weekends as this was a Friday night), because it would definitely get more business if it stayed open. Pusan (its main competitor) closed down a month or so ago too. At any rate, we finally tried it, the food was good, and I took my leftovers home for a good lunch the next day. I would come back and try more, and hopefully before another four years goes by. read more

Love this place for lunch. Quick and fabulous every time. It's a limited menu for lunch. Chicken, pork or beef. Served with rice, small cream cheese roll, cold noodles, broccoli and cucumber. Korean Garden was the first place I ever ate Korean food. Since then, I've eaten Korean food in a variety of States, but none have been as good as Korean Garden in Junction City, Kansas. Due to COVID and staffing issues, their dining room remains closed. However, take-out is still available. The portions are a bit smaller and the prices are higher....but for me, it's worth the occasional indulgence. Their dining room and kitchen are SPOTLESSLY clean compared to other local Asian restaurants and stores. The food is so flavorful. Yes, their open hours are limited, but it's worth taking the time and effort to order take-out from this delicious Korean restaurant. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the smaller portion sizes, the higher prices and the take-out only policy. read more

So in keeping with a lot of Korean restaurants, the food was definitely authentic and most of it tasted just like what I ate while with the exception to the beef bulgogi. The beef was tender and had decent flavor but was just missing something that I couldn't quite place. So I added just a bit of bbq sauce to give it just a little more moisture and it made the flavor explode! So if you like bulgogi, just be prepared to not get exactly what you're looking for, still tasty, but not perfect. Everything else was great though. Nice Korean food joint. Surely some Korean expats running this place. Menu is simple and food is out in a flash. Dishes come out similar to if you were in Korea with the metal rice bowls and clay soup pots. Plenty of side dishes offered with a meal. This is definitely the BEST and most authentic Korean restaurant you will find around this area. I've been to a few of the other Korean restaurants and none of them really compare to this place. I've had their bibimbap and seafood soon dubu and it's super yummy. Next time I go back, the kalbi is next on the list! Prices are definitely a little higher than normal (I'm comparing to Southern California), but when you are in an area that just doesn't have that demand for ethnic food, I'll pay the extra few dollars for the meal. read more

Though the outside and inside of the restaurant look plain, they've got really tasty Korean food here at a reasonable price. My friend and I were there for lunch on Saturday. We were immediately greeted right after entering the restaurant. My friend is from Czech Republic and it was the first time he tried Korean food. He ordered BBQ pork bulgogi and I ordered kimchi jjigae. Since it was holiday, they did not have the lunch special (lunch boxes served at cheaper price but also with smaller portion). Yet we can still ordered the same dish just as larger portion and of course with a bit more money (which was totally worth it). The food was served with 6 plates of Korean side dishes (shared by two). The side dishes are nice, but I'm just not a big fan of pickled radish. As for my friend who was trying his first ever Korean food, he was absolutely blown away by the BBQ pork bulgogi. The pork was cooked really well, not to mention the just perfect seasoning. As for the kimchi jjigae, it was great (especially for winter since it can really warm you up by its spicy soup). The soup contained tofu, some beef, and of course lots of kimchi. Both dishes we ordered go well with the white rice provided. Next time, I would like to try the one with octopus. Definitely looking forward to that! read more

I enjoyed a delightful meal of (beef) bulgogi one day and chicken the next with quality side dishes (spicy radish, broccoli, potato, jap chae, bean sprouts...but these vary from day to day) and excellent rice. All good, no complaints. Hot barley tea is delightful. On my first visit the appetizer plates were not refilled as they were consumed but this was accomplished on my second visit. Service is a bit disconnected, but the people are very nice. The bathrooms were spotless. Probably best to avoid the lemonade. read more

This place is a sweet hidden treasure! After one too many rave reviews, my husband and I tried this place out and we will be back. Never have I ever had Korean food, but after eating here I dub Korean food king of Asian cuisine. I ordered the BBQ chicken dinner and my husband ordered the BBQ pork dinner. The food was outstanding! It came to us piping hot. The chicken had a sweetness to it and the pork was very spicy, but it was all delicious. Our dinners came with a small pot of rice and other small side dishes including rice noodles, squash, cucumbers, and an unknown item (I forgot to ask what it was). Besides the food, I was delighted by the service. Our waitress was so pleasant, and although we entered 30 minutes prior to closing we felt absolutely welcomed and were not rushed. The only reason why I cannot give this restaurant five stars is because the hours are absolutely odd. Other than this, I highly recommend stopping in Korean Garden if you're in or near Junction City. read more

Great food! I have been there for lunch and dinner with the family. I love the spicy chicken bulgogi. It's my favorite go to item on the menu of any Korean restaurant. They think it's fine to yell at young college students. Group of us were chatting while we checking out and a guy(maybe the owner) walked out of kitchen very aggressively and told us to shut up. A+ This place has four lunch options: Beef Box, Pork Box, Squid Box (?) & Chicken Box (from the outside looks of this place one could be forgiven for thinking that last one was Chicken Pox). Now, I love me some box (amiright?!?!), but I was rather disappointed upon being seated and shown the very.. abbreviated menu. I went with the Beef Box and I'm glad I did! Shredded, roasted, seasoned, delicious beef, fresh rice, pickled squash, some kind of translucent noodles (trust me folks, it works!) and then another kind of noodle with some sort of seeds (maybe pumpkin?) and to top it all off, an egg roll (yay!). All washed down with a can of soda (no free refills, ya free-loading sons-of-bitches!), all for the price of a Mcee-dees value meal. The inside: very, very clean. Like, surprising clean (because this is, after all, Junction City and we all know what that means: SHIT TOWN!) Two exceptionally polite Korean girls ran the dining room. And they had to be fresh off the boat (rail car, bus or more likely, Can ((hey look, it's a Wire reference. But these girls didn't die! Frank Sobotka would be very happy!!))) They didn't speak a lick of english but seemed to understand nothing but "_____ Box" and "is Pepsi okay?". The outside of the place is in a shady part of town (but again, what part of Junk Town isn't shady as shit?) and looks a little disturbing (such as, my co-worker and I didn't know if we should go in until we saw what seemed to a normal looking family get out of their cars and go inside). But don't be fooled. You'll be happier than a bird with a french fry after eating at the Korean Garden! Oh, one last thing (and I want to start including this in my reviews on the reg), I wouldn't have had this amazing meal if I hadn't discovered it in a Yelp search. #yelplife read more

I've never been to Korean Garden during lunchtime, but finally did. They serve a lunchbox deal (almost bento like, which I thought was quite strange because I would assume it would be more like a doshirak) and there were probably about four or five different varieties to choose from. I ordered the spicy squid lunchbox. As always, I was impressed. The sad fact was that during lunchtime, they don't serve anything off their regular menu at all. Korean Garden is a terrific restaurant. I don't go there very often because I live in Manhattan and it is 30 minutes away, but honestly it is worth the drive. Last summer I had Korean food for the first time while visiting L.A. and this restaurant is every bit as good as the Korean you can get in L.A. I love the Bulgogi here, it is much better than what I've had at Pusan Diner. The beef is better quality, and it is actually seasoned instead of smothered in an unnamable sauce. It also comes with 3 or 4 side dishes of kimchi and the like. Their sizzling rice bowls come out in a hot stone pot and are wonderful on a cold winter night. I found this little gem on Yelp and went ready for a light meal. I saw the food coming out and all hope of light left... and a feast was on! Bulgogi and tofu soup. All the fixings, too. Green leaf lettuce for "boat building. Bean sprouts, homemade pickles, spiced glass noodles, slaw, broccoli, bean paste, rice. Just a lovely palette of flavors that you could mix and match to assemble your perfect lettuce boats of goodness. Bottom Line Up Front: Beef Bulgogi and Short ribs tastes great! Portion to price ratio is lacking. Storefront looks sketchy but the inside will surprise you. This was the only Korean restaurant in the area with good reviews so the fiance and I decided to give it a try, plus it's conveniently located outside of the Grant Gate. Parking is located right in front of the restaurant -- got there a bit before the 1130 lunch rush so had no issues with parking. It got busier but there was never a wait. The outside looks a bit sketchy especially with the surrounding establishments but the inside is very clean. No frills decor, just very simple and clean. We sat down at our table and looked at the menu - we were a bit surprised and disappointed that they only offered five items for lunch. I am glad I wanted something from the lunch box menu but unfortunately my fiance initially wanted something off their full menu. She settled with the beef bulgogi box and I got the korean BBQ short ribs box. The food came out in a timely manner but I was immediately disappointed with the portion size. When you look at their menu, you can clearly see that they have increased their lunch prices a lot and you figure with the little pictures they have on the side that it would look similar to it as far as the portions - nope. The protein and rice portion was borderline satisfying but the sides were definitely lacking. But, on the positive, everything tasted great. I enjoyed all the different sides, especially the clear noodles and the kim chi, which was another reason why I wished the portions were larger. If it was for me finishing 1/3 of my fiances meal, I would have needed a burger from BK to make it through the afternoon. If you're looking for authentic Korean food, this is definitely a place to check out. Not like you really have anything else to chose from in JC or MHK, that offers quality dishes at least. Just don't come starving, unless you want to buy two lunch boxes. We will come back one day to check out the dinner menu, if its anything like their lunch, they might gain back a star. read more

First time here today. Their bi bim bap was spot on. I was unsure what to order due to , in my opinion, a quite different (and small) selection of food, but the waitress was very nice & helpful. This is literally one of my favorite places to eat in town! Anytime I want to treat myself or do something special for someone I take them to this place....at least I used to. They have TERRIBLE service as far as attitude goes. Specifically the head waitress. She is very rude and unprofessional. From what I've observed when you first walk in, IF you are military, Caucasian, or Asian American normally you are greeted by warm "Hellos" and "How many? Anyone else is met with cold, flat tones. When it comes to ordering there is usually no problems. The food again is to die for (unlimited side dishes) and it comes out in a timely manner. The end of the experience is what really sours it for me. The head waitress has a habit of passively yet aggressively making people leave tips. She will tap on the tip bucket located near the register after handing you your change. Not in a "We'd appreciate if you could leave something" but in a "You need to drop that in the bucket" way. Not to mention she never says anything to let you know the transaction is completed. More of an annoyed stare like "Why are you still here?" A few months back I was ready to pay for my meal. Everything was going as usual. I pay with cash, head waitress gives me change, she taps the bucket. Already annoyed but understanding the plight of the wait staff (tips can make or break them) I placed my change in. *Disclaimer: I am a college student and at the time did not have a lot of money to my name, so I had to have some financial discernment. In a room full of patrons and guest enjoying their meals, she reached into the tip bucket and handed me back my change. I thought "Maybe it's a cultural thing, maybe she'll explain to me so I know." I don't want to intentionally be disrespectful or rude you know? But nope. She hands it back to me, gives the "What are you still doing here?" stare before walking away. From that point on, unless I was grabbing the food to go or being treated by othera I would not step foot in there again. But as time went on I figured "Whatever. This is your favorite restaurant, don't let one bad experience deter you away from it." Last week I went back with a friend and another incident occurred. This time no told myself "I will not leave a tip in the bucket. If I want to tip I will give it to the waitress that takes my order." It started off as one of the other waitresses but ended with the head waitress. When it was time to pay, I did so then proceeded to walk away. Before I left however, the head waitress stoped me and asked "Where is the tip? Is it on the table?" No ma'am I replied. "You guys come in here all the time (no we don't; NOT all African Americans look alike thank you) and never leave tip. What? Service no good." I completely ignored her first remark and instead focused on the question. "If I am to give a tip, I will give it to the lady who orginally took our order, but if it's a free for all I cannot." *motions to tip bucket* She looked very confused, so I continued "You and I have had an altercation before. I gave you a tip before and in a room full of people you gave me my money back. I found that extremely rude. So again no tip will be given". All she could do was shake her head in agreeance and say "Okay." Again I cannot stress how much love this place. But until I feel like I will be respected, as a customer and as a person in thos place I will continue to tell people to NOT eat there. Take your hard earned money some where else. read more

Best place to get authentic Korean food in the area!! I'm Korean myself and no other place around here can compare. Their food has so much flavor and I love that they keep with tradition and provide all the different kimchee's with dinner. They also have a great lunch special but make sure to go early because it always gets busy due to the military base being so close. read more
