Koreatown in Manhattan has been around since the late 1970s, originally part of the garment district and a small congregation of restaurants and shops patronized by Korean immigrant garment workers. The number of businesses grew in the 1980s, further expanding the neighborhood with the rise of tourism and Korean immigration. Nowadays not only is the original Korean Way (32nd Street between Broadway and Fifth Avenue) filled with mostly Korean (and a sprinkling of other Asian) businesses, this neighborhood extends south to 30th Street, north to 35th street (not including 33rd and 34th Streets), and east to Madison Avenue. With the popularity of K-pop, K-beauty, Korean food, and K-culture in the past decade, there are now more choices than ever! There's so much to do in Ktown! The list of KBBQ's available is a little overwhelming and they have other tasty treats like corn dogs. I could easily spend a day in Ktown. Grabbing boba to start the day, shopping at the bookstore, eating a Korean corn dog for lunch, walking around some more before heading to Kbbq or a gastropub for the night. Wonderful and exciting part of Manhattan which is open until the small hours of the morning and sometimes until the sunlight hits Manhattan, and has all kinds of great bars and karaoke and wonderful places to eat and bubble tea shops and dessert places and bakeries and bookstores and you name it. I had blast today exploring Korea town located in the big apple NYC. It's a couple of years since I been hear and since Covid Hit the world. The restaurants were up going as best as possible. The places that have tea and sweets were functioning as well. I saw a couple places I use to go to closed not sure if it was permanently. This area still has charm so one can have a fun experience. Restaurants were still having Covid protocols in place like servers in establishments wearing masks and hand sanitizer available so you can clean your hands. read more

Just like when I mentioned that I missed going to Coney Island of Brooklyn New York on my last 3 previous times 1996 2013 2014!!! Which was loud and clear to my family and June 23rd of 2019 my drought has finally ended by not visiting Koreatown of New York City!!! While taking a ride on the famous New York City Subway as I got here to Koreatown of the city that never sleeps aka New York City!!! I really liked this place!!! It's because the city that I live at which is San Francisco Ca doesn't have a Koreatown!!! The one thing that... I really like most about Koreatown of New York City is the Korean restaurants and the Korean Book Store that sells a lot of K POP Girl Group items like A Pink, Black Pink, Girls Generation, Red Velvet,Twice and exc.. And for all of the young girls out who like K POP boy groups like BTS this Korean Book has it as well!!! Koreatown is bustling with businesses. During the day it is quiet as limited restaurants are open for lunch- most all open for dinner in the evening. It isn't as busy as it used to be (preCovid days) but there are still people around. Reataurants, groceries/market, banking, tea/beverage shops and food hall/cafeteria are still all open in the area (just no indoor dining). Koreatown is one of the best neighborhoods to be for when you want Korean food. Help support the Asian community and local businesses. Our restaurants needs us to stay here. Love kimichi, Korean bbq, sundubu jjiage, pajeon and tteokbokki? Come here and eat. During the evenings, you can smell the whole block filled with bbq meats in the air... mmmm yummy. Koreatown or K-Town, is an ethnic Korean enclave in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, centered on West 32nd Street between Madison Avenue and the intersection with Sixth Avenue and Broadway. This area is better known to me as Greeley Square. The neighborhood in Midtown South has businesses of various types and sizes, ranging from small restaurants and beauty salons to large branches of Korean banking conglomerates. Koreatown, Manhattan has become described as the "Korean Times Square". I'm definitely a fan. I enjoy bookstores, desert shops and people watching when I'm out at night. I usually spend time here when I go to Madison Square Garden. It's very easy to get to K-Town by train. All the stops converge in this neighborhood. At least the ones conveniently located to where I live! This is a neighborhood I always want to return to. There's lots of entertainment. I have a bucket list of food and deserts I want to try. It's just like being in another country. Well I try my best to pretend I'm elsewhere. I'm not going to get to Korea in this life so this is as good as it gets. I have Korean friends. I enjoy feeling and participating in the culture when I can! It's a must see neighborhood for all you tourists! read more

While often compared to Los Angeles', this one is strictly unique and requires highlighting many differences which make it so good. The lack of parking is a strength not a weakness as the popular nightlife spots disprefer driving. The major 34th Herald Square subway station on the block with the highest concentration of businesses, 32nd between 5th Ave and 6th Ave, makes connections easy and DUI-free. Or walking home for those affluent or savings-free enough to live that close. The lack of brand name restaurants imported from Korean originals means less high prices and local businesses, many as branches or variations (not always disclaimed or known) of their Flushing originals. The major throngs of non Korean patrons notably Chinese (as reflective of citywide demographics and office locations) are well educated in food and Yelp such as to ensure only the good survive. Customer service is widely superb per the homeland's influences which is not an invitation for those either not understanding or disrespecting to come as they will fiercely enforce said respectful standards. Expect to have well heeled fellow patrons so act like it (minus boorishness) and tip well. Food quality is just stellar, the primary focus of patrons and Yelp reviewers alike. The sheer variety from Pelicana, Korea's famed brand name fried chicken chain, to the hyriad of authentic higher middle-scale restaurants, dozens of narrow booth street pickup only stalls, its industry leading food court Food Gallery 32, classic mainstays like BCD Tofu and Miss Korea, and creative innovative nightlife cuisine (aided by many businesses being open 24h or virtually so) all mean a great time no matter for lunchtime pickup or dinner or weekend brunch or 3am booze cruise. There are a smattering of non Korean businesses like Ikazawa Mew on 37 and Mandoo Bar on 32 in case one wants some variety as well as the plethora of nearby ones like on 5th Ave (i.e. the recently opened mainland Chinese Mogée Tee) and up to 37th St (the 4 immediately east of the Monarch Rooftop Bar). Intra-ethnic rivalries are invisible to non-existent in case other Koreatowns are more Asian Balkanized. Such a hot hit such that 3 WeWorks and NomadWorks lay within 4mins walk of Koreatown's traditional boundaries. Foot traffic is pretty solid after 11am for office workers lunches through weekdays 9p when dinners wind down. Top 3 manhattan neighborhoods for sure. Very easy to get to from NJ/The Universe using public transportation. And once you get here, you're in a whole new world. You can shop, eat, drink and most important: Sing. One night, we went to 6 karaoke bars in under 2 hours. K-Town is awesome and anyone who disagrees needs to sing at one of the bars so I can throw vegetables at them. read more

Koreatown is so small, especially comparing to Chinatown Manhattan or even Flushing. Regardless, I still like it more than Chinatown Manhattan and Flushing. Maybe I'm more into Korea culture. I love kpop. I love kdramas. I love Korean food. I need to go to South Korea. Koreatown NYC is the closest I am able to get to it. My friend went to South Korea a few months earlier and told me that Koreatown pretty much looks like what she saw in South Korea. I am from Atlanta. There is actually a Koreaway! I love Korean food and was pleased with so many choices of restaurants here! On weekend nights, it gets really packed with people waiting to dine in and hang out. It is true that there is nothing really special but I like how it is within walking distance of Times Square. It is significantly less crowded than Times Square but still crowded enough. It is really small. You can't compare this with LA K-town though. Definitely good to stop by if you are interested in Korean food or just curious enough in general. read more

What a neat little section of the city!! I'm not sure this was "officially" around when I lived here, but I'm so glad it's a thing now. And it's a really good thing! It's actually not too large, just starting at 32nd St from 5th-6th Ave, but there's over 100 business packed into this bustling section of Midtown. Choosing which places to hit up could be a tad overwhelming as there's so very many.... I say if you're a 1st timer and not too familiar Korean food, go with one of the more casual pay by the pound buffet style spots so you can taste a variety of dishes before fully committing. They're usually quite inexpensive and have Korean beers and neat bottles of imported soda, milk, and juices to accompany to your eats. Woorijip on 32nd is a spot we tend to favor when we have the kiddos with us. If you're visiting NYC, I would say it's definitely worth putting on your agenda. How could I not love a Koreatown I was about to live near or within? I was going to sublease an apartment with a Korean mom and son and live somewhere in these whereabouts, calling it my residence for the duration of my term as a nursing and nurse practitioner student at CU. I love that it's in the middle of a hustling and bustling part of Manhattan. Somehow I really lucked out with my living arrangements in NYC, nearly always in safe buildings and with really cool people (minus any male stalkers from the campus who definitely stalked my whereabouts and gave me reason to move pronto) and I hope likewise for any potential kids I might have in the future. With the variety of living arrangements that I pocketed for myself, I could call this Koreatown a frequent stopby during a weekday's schedule. I just wish I had found it sooner and created a schedule that included visits to Koreatown and helped avoid the hiccups and mistakes I made at the early part of the 1st year. It's awesome enough to be able to say that once in my lifetime I was about to live near New York's Koreatown, and for that matter, it was suppose to be a space in a living room. No matter how tight the quarter was, the living arrangement would have worked out for me as I didn't need much space for sleeping and much of my day would have been spent in a clinical, lecture, and studying at the CU property. Sure, there are some great restaurants, buffets, lounges, dessert spots, boutique shops, and karaoke bars along these few blocks in the midtown area known as Koreatown - that I will admit. It's an area that many tourists, Manhattan residents, and the local Korean/Asian community flock to for authentic Korean food and enjoyment. One of my favorite little places resides here, Woorijip, that I drop in now and again for a bite when in the hood. Yet, I find the area kind of dirty, grimy, and it more than occasionally smells like rotting fish and dirty ass! Especially now that the hot summer NYC weather has already arrived. I walked through the area late last night after shopping at Macy's and the smells of summer have already arrived! At least it's close to mass transit such as Penn Station LIRR, NYC subway lines, and the PATH trains to NJ. Pretty easy to get into and out of. Many spots here are open late or even 24/7. Always worth a visit now and then for a taste and feel of authentic Korean flair. Just be sure to hold your nose on those hot summer nights when passing through! read more

I love coming to K-town at night time when everything is lit up. This area is literally stacked with the best variety of authentic Korean food as well as some other Asian foods. Food Gallery 32 is a must, which on its own, is packed with all types of Asian food vendors in one place. It's located on the street level. The 2nd and 3rd level restaurants are equally as good or better than the street level restaurants. You'll also find dessert, karaoke, massage, and even Korean skin care. I took my son to Korea town for his birthday. He'd recently returned from a semester of school in Korea and was familiar with the food and culture. We went to I miss Korea. It was a Sunday night and it wasn't very crowded. The food was good and according to my son authentic. Decent food. Good happy hour Two for one. Clean rest room. Good place for a family that has teens not younger children. The five stars were not given I felt uncomfortable with the two Mexican staff who gave me an unwelcome vibe. This place is a must if you love Asian food, specifically Korean. This was a first for me and I loved it. On Korea Way, there is a food court sort of building with various gendres of Korean restaurants including sushi and deserts. Go with a few friands so you can order various things to try. Almost all the food groups are under $10 and you get more than your money's worth. It's about 3 floors of eating space so if you don't find seats on the first floor, simply head upstairs. I was in the area with the fam and we decided to venture around and good thing we did! There were so many restaurants and cafes to choose from! The best part is it's 24/7, which means food all day! Not sure how you review a section of town but here goes. I love K-Town. The bustling streets filled with incredible restaurants, karoake bars, korean fried chicken, H-mart, Pinkberry, the food court and more. Want a Korean pastry there are awesome choices available. Craving lychee gummies check. Now granted there are some things that suck like mega doses of cigarette smoke but just hold your breath because the neighborhood is so vibrant and expanding beyond 32nd street. Located in the heart of business district though not huge Koreatown here in nyc does offer all the korean delights. The town typically streches between 31st and 36th streets with bordering avenue of americas and fifth ave. So basically it is just a street spread across few blocks. It have a couple of good karaoke places, bbq joints which are open till late hours for all seven days of the week. Th street has a number of resturants which serve both traditional and regional Korean cuisine and it also has bakeries, grocery stores, supermarkets, bookstores, consumer electronics outlets, video rental shops all in that same block. read more

I was surprised to discover that Manhattan's Koreatown is conveniently located in Midtown, just a block away from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. Lots of places are open very late, some even 24/7. Filled with plenty of inexpensive food options and a few karaoke bars, it seems like a convenient spot to pick up a casual meal. Came here for after dinner drinks with a group of friends (10-15 people), and was very pleased! The service is efficient and the prices are great! Their lychee soju is amazing! Pineapple is good too - if you like pina coladas i would suggest getting it. Just make sure to drink responsibly my friends, this soju is STRONG and does not taste like it is. You will be buzzed off of 2 shots. They have music videos playing on the tvs, which are all over the walls but the volume level is very controlled and we were able to have a conversation. This area has gone downhill through the years. We used to come here all the time for a good time. Now you are more likely to bump into ignorant FOBS and NJ punks that should probably stay in Fort Lee. Too many snobs here. The authentic Koreans aren't here any more. If my friend wants to bring me to eat authentic Korean food, and they bring me to 32 street... I'd be offended. Food has been on the downtrend here as well. Those deserve their own reviews for the designated establishments. Karaoke is way overpriced as are the drinks at the bars. Flushing is where it's BEEN at. Better value, but most importantly better experience (although Flushing has its own set of problems). Can't win them all right? read more

I had high expectation when I moved to New York from California. I always compare Korean food in LA with Korean food in NY. I would say LA wins. read more

Nothing special. Koreatown is pretty much like a Japantown, except with more stores and restaurants. It just one avenue big, but no better then either chinatown or japantown. I like to walk there once in a while to do some grocery because its close to Madison Square Garden and the AMC 34th st. Service in general is decent and korean food is legit. read more
