The space was beautiful. The staff were really welcoming, pleasant, and pretty helpful. The facilities were clean. We did the hydrotherapy retreat. Someone greeted us with tea after we got changed, and we waited in the lounge until our appointment time. While the lounge was comfortable and really nicely appointed, I don't think that I would pay an add--on cost to extend my time in the space. The steam and hot saunas were really nice, and I liked that you can reserve it to use privately. An hour is quite long. It would be great if they had a 45 minute price option. This is super specific, but it seemed strange they didn't have handles on both sides of the doors in the steam sauna. While I knew this when booking. I was very surprised that the rate per person is the same for using the space. If you are reserving it for a set time, there should be a discounted rate for additional people. We were glad we went, but I think they could definitely make it more affordable for couples or groups while still charging extra for the cleaning and washing of the additional towels and robes. read more

Two stars because they do try but they missed the mark on all aspects that a spa is supposed to have. The environment is too sterile and bright to really relax, there's no real walls that go up all the way in the space so it's hard to have a silent moment. The food they offer is bird food or microwaved handmade food that's overpriced, the chai is from a packet, the sanctuary again isn't set up to lounge your options are a chair, the floor, or maybe a swing chair. The steam room never got hot, and the sauna was just ok. Also if you arrive early prepare to be board or not offered to wait inside. Just not worth the money at all. read more

This was hard to write because I know the people at Kosa are good, which is why I gave 3 stars instead of 2. I wish I had read reviews beforehand. I trusted the "voted best in National Geographic" claim and their online presence, but my experience was disappointing and far too expensive for what was offered. From the start, communication was poor--I had trouble hearing the front desk staff and was left to figure things out on my own. When I arrived early she suggested I wait outside because I would be "bored" in the sanctuary. My meal was not ready and I had come on an empty stomach, leaving me hungry and unsettled before treatments. The sanctuary space was underwhelming. The Shirodhara treatment itself was pleasant but not remarkable for the price, and charging an "add on" for a short rest afterward feels wrong. A 20-minute rest should be part of the price in the treatment to integrate it. Staff were kind and apologetic, and the food I eventually tried was good, but by then the retreat energy was gone. The sauna was nice, but the steam room never warmed up properly. It was not on when I started the sauna and I had to turn it on twice. Overall, not worth the hype or cost. read more

A visit to a long-time friend in Madison would not be complete without treating ourselves to a nourishing and nurturing experience. Abbey, my massage therapist's expertise made me feel I had been nurtured, treated with care, stroked with a healing energy that I felt through my skin and deep into my entire body. Her touch, the warm oils and her "way" of caring for me was perfect. We finished our time with a nourishing lunch and a Golden Milk beverage - a pure sweet and soothing experience that carried my massage through and into my inner body, healing and strengthening my physical body and core being. I have no idea why other customers had issues but my time at Kosa Spa was absolute bliss. There are are not a ton of Ayurvedic spas in Los Angeles, and I have been to ones in India and Cabo before. I was pleasantly surprised to find one in Madison, WI but it was amazing. The day a conference started I headed to the spa for a half day of pampering. I started with a 60 minute shirodhara and added on an Indian Head Massage. If you've never done a shirodhara before, you lie on your back as hot oil is dripped onto your third eye. It feels incredibly, and for me is a great way to get my mind and body to integrate. With a head massage, I thought I was in heaven! Then I added on the personal retreat where I hung out in their beautiful space and used their private sauna and steam room. Their steam room was so cool, it had several shower heads in different spots so you could stand, or sit and have different heads hitting different spots. Then I ended with their Khichdi rice and lentil bowl with a turmeric latte which was so flavorful and filling. I loved my whole time and when I entered my conference I was well rested and feeling very centered. read more

This Ayurvedic spa is outstanding. The physical location is inside of the Garver Feed Mill building which has been renovated but left with so much charm and personality which definitely gives Kosa a really unique vibe. The common areas, sauna and steam room are beautifully designed. The spa services are what I really came here to review though. I've been to Sundara a handful of times and of course the Ayurvedic experience is completely different and rightfully so. However, the spa services at Kosa are elevated far above and beyond anything I've experienced at Sundara (or the other local spa experiences I have had for that matter). The massage we chose was traditional in the sense that they follow the Ayurvedic practice of 'abhyanga' which is a lighter massage (although it appears there are massages with a deeper pressure on the list of spa services). This type of massage is incredibly relaxing and in India is considered a form of preventative medical care. My husband and I both had a Abhyunga massage and the inner glow facial which were outstanding. Both very relaxing and the facial has left my skin feeling and looking and feeling transformed. Kosa is an outstanding and addition to the Madison area spa scene and I can't wait to go back and try some of the other services they offer. After a visit here, you can anticipate feeling much more aligned in your body, mind and spirit. read more

Buyer beware..I arrived 20 mins prior to my 11:00 appt time, already had paperwork filled out. The receptionist was on the phone so the owner checked me in and said someone would meet me on the other side. No one was there after getting in the robe on the other side so I walked to the lounge and sat for about 20 mins with no one around. Then two other guests come in and are handed tea and a neck towel. I was then asked if I got a neck towel and thankfully took one. It was 11:15 and I went to the locker room to use the bathroom and told the front desk I was still waiting for my 11:00 appt. Sitting in the lounge the owner came by and said Dawn would be with my shortly. Dawn came and said she appreciate me waiting, which was fine. We get back to the room, she has me put my feet in a bowl of water and talks about my preferences for the massage. She dumps the water out and I get on the bed and glance over and see it's 11:30, so I expect to be done at 12:15 since I signed up for a 45 min treatment. The service was fine, it was relaxing. When Dawn left the room I noticed it was 12:04. When I checked out I brought this up to the front desk and said the service was fine but that it was short and discussed the time. She agrees and said 45 mins is short as if I'm saying the length of time and I explain no I only got about 30 mins of a massage. She then explains somehow 15 mins of the foot bathing and consult is part of my 45 min massage and that since it was 12:04, that Dawn actually did me a favor and went over time. It felt like she was gaslighting me. No acknowledgement to the 30 min late start, and since when does a 45 min massage include a 15 minute consult? On top of that being suggested to pay 22% tip. So $134 for a 30 min massage. I don't think it was worth the money or the hassle of running late with the rest of the day. I likely won't be back. read more

What a spectacular oasis this is! A modern yet rustic space welcomed my 4 friends from high school and I - exposed brick walls, bohemian decor and warm colors created the perfect place for us to escape the realities of life! We all did the 75 minute abayangha treatments - an amazing massage that started with a foot bath and tailored scented oils. We enjoyed a group package which allowed us to enjoy a nourishing lentil bowl and chai tea after our treatments. There's also a sanctuary to enjoy a steam and sauna. Since it's opening I have been in love with Kosa.. This Ayurvedic spa offers a full range of services and treatments. Most recently I participated in the new beginnings purifying ritual which included a yoga session, the abhyanga massage, steam/sauna, and a delicious meal. I stayed and relaxed and soaked up the tranquility. It was exactly what I needed to help get me through the rest of winter and reconnect with myself. read more

I booked multiple services for me and my husband for my birthday two months in advance. They texted me 3 business days prior to our appointments to let me know they no longer were going to be able to accommodate our massage due to not having a massage therapist and to ask if we could switch our services. When I responded to this with my concerns they ghosted me. I tried to call during business hours and they did not answer. I texted again and they did not respond. When my husband called they answered and tried to get him to not cancel "in case they can find someone to perform our massage". At this point though, we only have two more business days before our appointment and we need to cancel if we do not want to be charged any of their cancellation fees. Overall this has been an extremely disappointing experience. They have been completely unprofessional with their handling of their staffing issues. I would not recommend booking here. read more

This is a beautiful, rejuvenating spa experience. My friend and I booked the half day retreat and spent 4 lovely hours and loved every minute. We were well attended to by the staff but not bothered. The spa and steam room combo was exactly what I needed to dull the winter pain I experience. And, the Chai and food were perfect. I will be going back! read more

We did a girlfriend spa day at Kosa and it was such a wonderful experience. By the end of the day we were both so relaxed and truly felt as if we had just finished a destination retreat. It was the perfect staycation! I highly recommend arriving early to really experience it. When we checked in and changed into robes we were given a tour of the sauna/steam room and led to their relaxation room. They had hot tea and nuts available but I also I tried out their February rose chai (delicious). The atmosphere was perfect, it felt like we were in a large yet cozy living room with the natural sunlight pouring through the giant warehouse windows. We both had the Abhyanga massage. The best way I can describe it is the feeling of drinking that first sip of warm tea on a cold day, except I felt this in my whole body. Each stroke melted away any muscle tension I had. I wouldn't go in there expecting a deep tissue massage which is usually what I think my body needs. But I was surprised at how relaxed I was by the end of it even though she wasn't kneading through my back. And I wasn't sore afterwards like I normally am after a massage. Afterwards we hit up the gorgeous sauna and steam room, showered, and ate lunch in the relaxation room. I had the thali which was a beautiful plate of various colorful Ayurvedic dishes. What a beautiful space to decompress. The spa is gorgeous and overall this place has a good energy. I made my appointment later in the evening, 4:30 and would not recommend making it that late. I feel like they should have a warning on their website that if you have a later appointment, they may be out of snacks, and it doesn't allow you time to enjoy the meditation room or spa after your appointment like they advertise. I was slightly disappointed that I left feeling like I didn't get to enjoy the full experience that I paid for. HOWEVER my service and masseuse was incredible.
