As a General Dentist, I am pretty familiar with the practitioners in town. When the time came for my daughter to see a Pediatric Dentist for a special concern, I chose to take her to see Dr. Ian. She is completely familiar with my office as she has the run of the place and all of my staff spoil her when she is around. However, I wasn't sure how she would react to going to see another dental office, so we elected to visit his office a few weeks prior to her appointment to "desensitize" her to the surroundings. We also brought over some treats, so that she would associate the visit with celebration, rather than an unknown. I used the time to fill out her paperwork ahead of time and allow her to play in the play area that is off to the side of the reception area. During the 15 minutes or so we were there, Dr. Ian took the time away from his busy schedule to come out and introduce himself to Ellie. They chatted for a bit and he used the time to build rapport with her, as well as observe the front tooth that had been traumatized during an accident. This type of personalized service is what I have come to expect there, and I'm greatly appreciative of this since you really don't find it that often. Today we returned for her actual visit. She was very upbeat and settled right in to the play area upon our arrival. Within 5 minutes we were being welcomed back for imaging. I have been in practice for 13 years now, and I am happy to say I learned a few things today about getting images for small children. The sensors used for x-rays are nobodies favorite, but with a little TLC, they were no problem. I also appreciate that they took digital pictures of not only the biting surface of her teeth, but also the tongue and cheek side of her bite. This goes above and beyond what most Dentist do. Next was her cleaning. The assistant did a wonderful job of introducing Ellie to the instruments that may seem a bit daunting to a young child and even let her choose the chair that she would use. This is a significant point, as children react much better when they are given the power to choose, as they feel more in control. During the entire process the next step was explained to her and she was encouraged to touch and feel everything that was going to be used. The entire staff have a great way about them, that is evident of thorough training. Finally, Dr. Ian came over and introduced himself to Ellie again, reminding her that he had seen her on her previous visit. He has a fun, spirited way about him that resonates with children. Ellie warmed up easily and was compliant throughout the entire exam, which can be a bit tricky with a 3 y.o. if everything isn't right. Following the exam, Dr. Ian and myself discussed his findings and he took the time to answer my questions and discuss the matter completely, in a very detailed and non-rushed manner. You would be very well served to consider Dr. Ian Kott as a Pediatric Dentist for your children. Dr. Kott has been my 4 kids' dentist since he was still at Superior many years ago. We followed him when he moved to Boulder. We all like him, and his staff. I have been recommending him to many of my colleagues and friends. Years ago, when he recommended crowns for my youngest son, I had doubts and consulted a few other dentists. Eventually I realized his recommendation was the right one for my son. Dr. Kott is always honest and straight forward. He's very good with kids. He's good at educating parents like me so I can do a good job making sure my kids keep up with flossing and brushing and build up a good habit in maintaining dental hygiene. I like his staff, the nurses, and especially Helen at the front desk who's always nice, kind and considerate to me and my kids. She remembers my name and my kids' names every time I call her on the phone! Helen's in charge of billing as well. I like the fact she always makes sure I'm aware of any charges, and whether or not they are covered by insurance in advance so they don't come to me as a surprise. Dealing with kids' dental issues can be hard for parents. Over the years, I have built up trust in Dr. Kott that he and his staff would do the right thing for my kids' dental needs. He's taught me a lot in taking care of kids during this process. I once asked if he could be my dentist but unfortunately he only accepts kids. I can only imagine the incredible amount of patience and skill it takes to be a dentist, let alone a pediatric dentist. I mean, I can't stand going to the dentist but at least I'm able to mask my dislike. Kids on the other hand, they aren't worried about letting loose when they don't want to continue with getting that filling done or in my younger son's case, even having his teeth brushed! Dr. Kott and the staff at his practice are incredible, however, and will spend all the time it takes to carefully explain different instruments, procedures, address any fears and just do their very best to make sure the child is as comfortable as possible. I do also appreciate that when all is said and done, the child will have their teeth cleaned and any necessary fluoride applied or filling finished. I have complete faith in Dr. Kott and his recommendations and am so happy to have found such a great pediatric dentist in Boulder. read more

Dr. Kott is awe-inspiring in his kind and empathetic manner with kids. My daughter actually looks forward to going to the dentist EVEN when she has to get fillings. He's been her dentist since age 2. Everyone who works there is patient and friendly and he gives parents options when it comes to treatment so they can choose what works best for their child. THE best pediatric dentistry practice my kiddos have ever been to. While the office can be difficult to find without navigation assistance, I have found that there's usually plenty of parking. The office is allergy-free so please don't bring in food. You're happily greeted by their warm and welcoming receptionist. She's professional and accommodating when processing insurance, billing and scheduling. Love her. A play area flanks the waiting area; magazines available for adults and kids. When it's their turn, the dental techs greet the kids and then bring them back to the x-ray room (if they are due). They then perform their cleanings in the kid-friendly chairs; reassuring and informative the entire time. And then finally Dr. Kott examines the kiddos. He's so energetic and interactive with them. They really feel like they are important and are never afraid to ask questions or voice themselves. Unless we are visiting for a specific concern, I really like that the majority of the appointment is focused on the kids and then I am updated at the end. I appreciate that children are prioritized and inturn learn to self-advocate. Parents are always welcome through the process but I have found that over the years, the kids and I have both become more comfortable and I no longer need to be present for every step. I was blown away by Dr. Kott's office and staff today. I brought my two-year-old in for her very first dentist visit and I could not have been more pleased with our experience. Dr. Kott was fantastic. The receptionist was so kind, the office was clean and inviting. Who really stood out to us was the hygienist, Alfa. He was amazing and helped my daughter to feel safe and comfortable. She left with a smile on her face and talked about the chocolate toothpaste the rest of the day. We were so grateful to have found Kott Pediatric Dentistry. After several years of seeing another well-known office in town, his approach to the kids and to me was refreshing and down-to-earth. He is knowledgeable and is conservative with procedures. We initially sought him out because our former dentist in conjunction with their recommended orthodontist, was suggesting that many teeth be pulled on our 8 year old. Thankfully, Dr. Kott and Dr. Wong (orthodontist) did not agree. Dr. Kott makes me feel comfortable about my children's dental hygiene and I am thankful we found him. My children (ages 3 & 4 at their first visit) were both a little apprehensive about their first trip, but now they actually look forward to going to the dentist. The front desk staff is always friendly, the dental hygienists are gentle and Dr. Kott is extremely patient and so amazing with kids. You get the impression that he really, truly loves what he does. If you have a medicate do not go there, they do not have good service. I have two kids we are Kott's patents from my my kids bird , my son is 7 years old now and my daughter is 4 I called the beginning of this 2015 year they gave me appointment for April 31th first available. During the visit on April 31st doctor Kott said my son has 3 cavities and the next available appointment is June. I called after two weeks again and I ask for the firs available emergency because my son feels pain when he is eating sweets, but they confirmed they do not have available hours and they give me phone number for other office. We are new to Boulder and had to find a pediatric dentist quick when our older daughter developed and abscessed tooth. We picked Dr. Kott because his website emphasized providing positive experiences. Dr. Kott's office squeezed us in right away. After confirming the problem tooth, we had a series of visits to treat the abscess. We found Dr. Kott very friendly and approachable, he explained the treatment clearly and he was very patient and easy with my daughter, who is very sensitive to pain and had previous bad dental experiences. The offices are very bright and cheerful. One note - they do not play videos to 'babysit' the kids during the treatment. I am not judging but from past experiences the videos do provide a mental distraction for young kids. The staff is very friendly. Also, Dr. Kott does not have an answering service - instead he was available on his cell phone after hours when we needed further help. All in all I am so pleased we found Dr. Kott and plan to take both kids to his practice for ongoing routine care. read more

Dr Kott is magic! My son had several dental issues that made him very sensitive & fearful of dentists. After just 1 visit w/ Dr Kott, he has no more fear. They are always on time, always super friendly & fun. Seriously, my daughter just whined because she has to wait 6 months to come back. Wow. Dr Kott seems to have a lot of happy customers, and that scares me a bit. When we took my then-5yr old daughter to see him, he started off very friendly, as folks say. He was always friendly. But then he started on the intensive procedures. The last was when he wanted to extract four of her teeth to make room, for a hefty sum. We were uncomfortable with that, so we went to another dentist for a second opinion, who said she would NOT recommend extraction, but rather that there was plenty of room in her jaw to have orthodontics make the necessary space. Now, she is 8, and her smile is developing beautifully. I thank the Heavens that my Mommy Alarm went off and that now she will have a full face of teeth, rather than a huge gap in the back of her mouth. The cost has been comparative. This lost my trust, and I am glad others have had positive experiences, but we will not return nor recommend him read more
