The organizers cap the race at 1500 runners, but only about 225 people ran it. Most of us parked in the park's parking lot. Wow. That's a lot of parks in one sentence. - There's plenty of hydration stations. The race advertised that there would be 5, but there were more than that. - There was plenty of food after the race and they didn't run out. Some negatives: - The $70 entry fee is kind of steep, but you get a long sleeve technical tee and the rest I'm sure goes to a good cause. - It's an open course so you have to stay to the right and run with traffic, which is the exact opposite of what most runners are trained to do. Either way, there were plenty of staff and police controlling traffic at the intersections so I felt safe most of the time. Will I run it again? Probably. Just because it's so flat.

They both have strong education backgrounds, and have been at LHMS for 5 + years, and recently bought the school from the sorta shady guy that previously owned the school. The school is set up in 2 large classrooms - the Acorn Room is set up for the the 2.5 y/os - 3 yr/0, and the Oak Room is for the 3-6 yr olds. It's a nice set up so the super young kids don't feel overwhelmed by the older kids, and the older kids have a sense of accomplishment moving on to the Big Room . There is a pretty nice, mulched playground out back for the kids can burn off some energy during the day. I knew nothing of the Montessori system when my first child started there, but it's really kinda cool. The students are given a lot of autonomy for such a young age -- they are gently guided through age-appropriate tasks & lessons, where they work independently or in small groups. Not only are they learning counting, letters, shapes, sizes etc--- the things you'd expect your kids to learn in preschool, but they are also learning to self-motivate, work independently and work in small groups --- all great life lessons. My older 2 children are thriving in public school in great part to the skills, confidence, independence and education they gathered at Long Hill Montessori. I highly recommend this school !

She started out in the Acorn room with the schools' youngest students, and like many of her peers, she was weary to leave her mommy at three years old. Her teachers showed her such compassion and patience that within a matter of days she was eager to get through the gate in the mornings and excited to tell me about her day when I came to pick her up each afternoon. Over the course of the three years she was enrolled in LHMS, our entire family noticed such a change in her! She went from clinging to my legs at family gatherings to confidently looking adults in the eye and playing with other children. I remember how quickly she learned the alphabet, the sounds each letter makes, counting, cultures from around the world, the environment, animals and their habitats - I mean, you name it - and I am so grateful for that strong foundation because she now does her homework with such ease, making the whole school experience so much more pleasant! My youngest child is now in the Acorn room and absolutely loves it! The teachers have a way of making school so fun, that he went from crying every morning to literally running to get in the car to see them. It's the personal touches - the way they patiently help him settle down to nap, the way they brush off an accident instead of dwelling or shaming, they even personalize the school's annual fundraiser so parents have an idea of which gifts would be best suited for their child in particular. A couple times I had some disciplinary issues and they took the time to help guide me through my kids' changing emotions, giving me advice and listening to concerns; I truly consider them like a co-parent! You can tell that the staff at LHMS really love what they do, they genuinely care for the kids, they're not just supervising them or teaching them, they're caring for them in a holistic way. Each day they're offered healthy snacks, guided through the work to make sure they're on track academically, and given the affection and attention each individual kid needs, and believe me, my kids can be a handful, they demand a LOT of attention! Let me explain the reason to substantiate this warning…read more I frequent the Milbank Park Street in Bloomfield NJ where this daycare transports their little customers [the kids] to play. Last week I witnessed [2] staff members performing the most outrageous acts of physical, emotional, and mental abuse. One staff member [an African American, very skinny young lady who appeared burnt out & ratchet] pulled a little girl [est. 2-4yrs old] off a piece of equipment by 1 fragile arm and proceeded to yell " You know better than to go up there; you are too little so stay off of this". I was appalled by how she manhandled the little toddler and yelled at her. This particular staff member yelled at various kids during the entire outing to the point where other staff just shook their heads obviously disappointed. The second perpetrator [Hispanic, short, stubby young lady] also yelled at kids. However her acts were the reason I had no choice but to take action and report them. A little boy [est. 2-4 yrs. old] had a non-verbal tantrum [he just laid down on the ground during departure]; the staff member angrily picked him up by 1 arm and yelled "Get up off the ground and stop it". The little toddler proceeded to perform the same act again. This time the livid staff member picked the little boy up from the ground by his shirt collar slightly choking him and yelled " Stand up and don't fall down again". His feet left the ground when she did this and that was it for me. Neither child appeared distraught or upset probably because this is the norm for them at Shiloh Academy. They don't know that it is wrong for the staff to treat them less than human. However, I know it is and I did something about it. How could staff members mistreat these toddlers who have barely been on this Earth that long in such an inhumane way? I wouldn't treat my own dog like that let alone someone else's kids. These staff members are being compensated and trusted to protect and care for these children yet they are the people these kids need protection from. What's worse are the child abuse procedures in NJ. I contacted the Child Abuse hotline and answered all their questions just to be told that they will document what I reported but they can't do anything since I didn't provide identifiable information [I provided adequate description of the staff & kids plus I was willing to point them out if needed]. The young lady referred me to licensing where I was cold transferred to a voicemail box. This was too serious for me to leave a message, so I contacted the office of Allison Blake where her secretary directed me to the office of advocacy. I was then advised the same information as the hotline gave me [not enough identifiable info]; I was told to contact licensing again. I finally spoke with Casey who took me seriously and advised an investigator would be sent to the facility or park to observe the staff within 24 hours. I advised her the best way to uncover the truth was to have the investigator just casually sit in the park and observe so the staff would think he/she was just a patron. As mentioned I have small children who cannot fully communicate yet. As caring adults, we have to protect all children and not just our own from any acts of abuse. They are our future and we need them to grow and develop into healthy adults. Childhood abuse can lead to many issues so when you witness it then report it. I am a mandated reporter and I will be the voice of all children. I will follow-up about the investigation and I will post any information. I expressed this to the Director Miss T and she explained that they have no help from the state! They are funded by the parents, so I can understand that. They dont get grants and government money, They NEED it! That is really sad but they had water play activities where the children can run around safely in a closed lot near the church. They are a christian GOD fearing school and I LOVE that!
