The factory explains how Alfred Vail prototyped the telegraph for Samuel Morse. The Ironworks exhibit in the large carriage house has detailed pictures and explanations along with artifacts like molds and patterns made by Stephen Vail and his men. Only the red buildings and the white mansion are original, others like the Estes House (under renovation in 2018) were moved in much later. Unfortunately the cast-iron water wheel wasn't running when I visited the factory, awaiting repairs and money in the Park Commission budget. Don't miss the bone grinder in the shed with the big water wheel! You do not exit through the gift shop here LOL.

Recently we did one of the longer homeschooling lessons- it was calling "Open Heart Cooking" and all the students worked together to cook an entire multi course meal in the fireplace like olden times. They had a great time and what a lesson in teamwork and patience. I would call them to ask about upcoming programs and classes. Or even just visit as a tourist one day- they have two small museums and guided tours.

It was good, but not great, as there's a lot of trees limiting what you can see. But I have to give them credit, the view is in the direction of New York City and you can see some of the taller buildings in the distance. As for the fort, there's a canon, and a short path which follows where a wall used to be. The whole area is wooded, which was nice but there's simply not much to see or do here. I probably wouldn't go back again.

The building's gain faux Tudor architecture blends beautifully with its leafy, suburban surroundings, while its public restrooms are thankfully modern. Yet the glaring flaw lies in its older plumbing: The original restrooms, located in the event space, appear to be suffering from a lack of maintenance. On a recent visit, a plastic bucket had been placed under the leaky water fountain. Few people enjoy paying for maintenance and repairs, even though the alternative is far more costly in the long term. For the sake of Maplewood residents, I hope the proper officials take steps to remedy this jewel.

Sure it's small, but Morris Plains is also small…read more There are other large libraries nearby such as the Morris County Library and Morristown Library. For a local town library this checks off all of the boxes. Staff is friendly and helpful. There is a large children's section and everything is well-organized and clean. In addition to books there are some other things to occupy the kids like a dollhouse and a train. They also have events for kids like story time (outdoors in the summer) and crafts. In the winter there is a great hill to go sledding. Happy to have this library nearby and I'm sure we'll be in often, especially now that my 3.5 year old is a proud library card holder.

There is a space for children's activities and the selection of books they would like to take home. I have found it very helpful to send documents from home and then print them off at the library. The library is always very clean and displays of materials are very accessible.

So I will say that I personally never stepped foot inside this building, BUT my wife did! Twice so…read morefar! My wife loves giving birth at St Barnabas of Livingston. So we have to pick up the birth certificate from the city offices here! Hopefully we do not have to pick up too many more from here. Twice is enough for now hahahhahaah!!! We did the paperwork at the hospital, it was pretty simple and straightforward. No real issues there. The hospital staff processed it, and all good! They sent it to the offices here for final processing, and now my kids are official American citizens! Hooray! The building is nice outside, nothing crazy flashy, but serves its purpose. It seems to be a multi function building, because they have a library, day care, and I believe an adult day care as well. They also have signs for Uber Eats etc to deliver food there hahaha!!! Grounds are very very well kept! Both times that we went lol! My wife says that the staff is very very friendly inside. Service is fast! Both times she was in and out in under 5 minutes. All in all, this is a great example on how a local government should function.

I tend to take a lot of books out of our public libraries, but this isn't my favorite location of the three we have in town. The place could use a bit of a renovation...and a bigger selection of books and other media. In fact, unless I know they have a book that I 'need' I don't really go over to this location anymore. It's ok, it's convenient for this part of town, but I tend of go to the main branch-just easier to get to, better parking, and obviously a greater selection.
