This place was packed, and while the parking near the front of the retail space may fill, thankfully if you venture just a little further on you'll find another area. They had a great mix of plants, leaning most heavily on annuals and more houseplants than I would have expected. Noteable finds were a variety of daphne, big beautiful gallon size dahlias, a good range of smaller perennials (I snatched up three varieties of dianthus!) and herbs, large and inexpensive violas, and beautiful rex begonias. I also spotted a very large pineapple guava and nice size azaleas. Of course, they had the requisite hanging baskets too. Again, this place was really busy, but there were plenty of employees to assist, and I even saw one make sure an older waiting customer was okay, offering a chair as she'd been standing for a while. All the customers here seemed especially happy and excited. It was a fun place to shop alongside them. The only negative I can give is that many people had wagons and there is no extra space to pass two wagons along the same row in the greenhouses, but everyone was so darn courteous it was not a big deal. They also had flat boxes conveniently placed around and I would opt to just carry a box around if you can.

The shop is perfect, obviously thought and care was put into the concept, the branding and signage is spot on. In addition to a plant shop they also offer classes and floral design for weddings and events. What I've seen so far has been highly inventive and creative. The jade plant I bought several weeks ago is thriving and I'm looking forward to picking up some more to add to my kitchen window collection. What a great spot to round out the wineries, restaurants and retail in the thriving downtown neighborhood of Newberg.

After fire we dug down to find ash laden root balls with live eyes! Brought them home...cleaned them up and grew them out with 90% success rate. Seriously, I started to try to pick some out, but I didn't have a lot of spare time, so decided I'd better return when I had a couple hours. They, no exaggeration, have 500+ varieties! In addition to the absolutely insane amount of hostas, they also had more varieties of ferns, astilbe and epimedium than I have ever seen gathered in one place. I quickly filled a basket with my selections, then loped along, arms overflowing with additional plants that didn't fit. There were a couple customers in line as I was paying, and we all laughed about trying to limit your purchases by only using a basket. Learn from my mistakes and opt for the carts! Anyways, I ended up with a beautiful golden geum, three hardy fuchsias, two yellow wonder strawberries, a red (Valentine) bleeding heart, striped lily of the valley, a hardy begonia, and dancing geisha dianthus. They had all the kooky, fun plant varieties that I am always seeking, in addition to their more standard counterparts. They also had limited bushes and trees, and some pretty display gardens and landscaping to serve as inspiration. Prices are comparable to other nurseries, in some cases lower. The gentleman who assisted me at checkout was friendly and nice, and Sebright just felt like such a pleasant place to shop as all the customers were so sweet and echoed excitement about everyone else's finds in addition to their own. Sebrights are my favorite chickens. Just look one up and tell me they aren't the cutest! You know this nursery must be good if they share a moniker. Lastly, while they don't have a specific date they open for the season each year, for 2022 it was the end of March, and they said that is about in line with what they normally do. So if you get a hankerin' for some early spring gardening they are ready for ya!

I almost didn't stop here as I had already visited five nurseries this day (not to mention it was…read morepouring rain!), but how can you not check out a place called The Happy Bee?! I nearly slammed on my breaks and trotted on in. This is smaller than some of the other area nurseries as it is just one greenhouse open for shopping, but the greenhouse itself is large and filled with all sorts of good stuff! They seemed to have more annual flowers than anything else, but it was also early in the season for vegetables and I got the impression they would have more as things warmed up. Noteable finds for me were epazote and summer savory (two herbs I have sought near and far but to no avail until now!) along with many more herbs, a large variety of peppers and tomatoes, colorful stocks, strawberries, and many marigolds (including my favorite, strawberry blonde). Oh and they had the requisite hanging baskets found everywhere this time of year. Prices here were some of the cheapest I have seen, with many plants under $2. Employees were quick at checkout, and this was a nice alternative to some of the other, busier nurseries. It felt more open and easier to navigate.

There is a fantastic nursery out in Hubbard that I have been returning to the past few years…read morebecause the plants are so healthy and unusual . It's about a 30 minute drive from my place in Tigard. The first time I went there, I realized that the owners have a huge plant booth at the Beaverton Farmer's Market where I have been supporting them for years. The hanging baskets are not the run of the mill big box store baskets, the colors and plants are terrific and unique. The typical annuals and perennials are there, but come in colors that you wouldn't see at other plant shops. I ended find a trunked yucca, only seen it once before in someone's mediterranen style garden in SE Portland. I picked it for a friend's birthday present since she has a large space with loads of sun. The owner was so enthusiastic when I confirmed what the plant was and he shared how it needs to be cared for. Hands down, highly recommend this nursery and the complimentary red vines can only help with the shopping. Also, if you want to make a day of it, there's a U-Pick strawberry field near buy as well as a winery.

When I see a sign that says "Peonies," I follow it! With their soft sherbet colors or bright…read morevibrant hues, ruffled petals or textured cones, I love them all! Plus, they smell so good! After a day in Salem visiting Schreiner's Iris Garden (spectacular garden filled with Iris, lupine, columbine, peony) and Adelman Peony Garden (exquisite) I passed a sign for Brook Garden Peonies and followed the trail of signs pointing the way. It's a bit off the beaten path and down a long gravel road (definitely had to wash my car afterwards!) that takes you past the garden's owners home to a large parking area next to a field of peonies. Mid May to mid June is the best time to go if you want to experience the peony, and iris, if full bloom. It's a spectacular sight with a huge variety in color combinations, petal shape and texture. Nothing like spending time in the beauty of nature to breath it all in. It has a way of grounding you and giving perspective to the greater world around you. This garden is not a structured garden for viewing like you will experience at Adelman's, where they have a formal garden in front and fields of peonies in the back. This is a field where you can wonder up and down the rows and identify peonies that you like from the hundred plus varieties, many heirloom. Many prolific bloomers. Next to the field is the covered area where the owners ring up your purchases. You can purchase gallon containers for your garden and bouquets of these gorgeous and fragrant flowers for your home. The owners are so friendly and clearly enthusiastic about their farm. They genuinely want their customers to be excited and have great results with their own peonies And offer tips on how and where to plant and how to get the most blooms. for the 2021 season, they are open May 1 through June 13 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am - 6 pm.
