Normally I listen to NPR or KPFT because I despise all the commercial radio stations out there. They play the same 25 songs and NONE of them are any good. Then I came across 103.7. They aren't "Jack" anymore, but they still play a pretty good variety of music. Gomez, Modest Mouse, Wilco, Led Zeppelin, Talking Heads, Feist, Pearl Jam, The Pretenders, Phish, Chris Isaak are just a few that I heard TODAY. None of the music fits into a a perfect little box of a genre. It's just plain good music. Most of which was on my iPod. There are no annoying DJs either. I rarely change the channel anymore except to listen to my NPR for the news. Where else do you think I get all the info so that I can know everything?

I stayed on the channel for a day or two, even enjoying it through my time in Galveston. "Houston's Only Classic Rock" continued with great tunes "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac, "Sunglasses at Night" by Corey Hart, and the thumping bass of "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen. This station is owned by Cox Media group. It's won best Country Station in the country three times, but that's always a bit like awarding themselves the best... Clear Channel sold the station to Cox Media a long time ago, and thy've been playing fewer commercials since, but it's still a lot of commercials. They rarely have any call-in contests. Why don't they play more Hank Williams? They really play more modern country than any old timey stuff that I tend to like, personally. They play a lot of the same stuff over and over and over.

The Box! Good Morning H-Town!…read more This Houston rap station has some good stuff. It's all hip hop and R&B and rap all the time. They've got so many commercials on here that trip up my jam. I'm crankin' it real slow and low on the Tollway, and an ad for Mattress Mack comes on the air blasting some news about his mattresses when I'm just tryin' to chill. This station is good to mix with some syzzurp and Mister Pibb while they jam some DJ Screw or some classic hip hop. If you call and request tunes from your buddy's fly new solo tape, they won't play him unless your buddy is Jay Z. This station plays all the songs that the local ones generally won't play, but they keep it clean, especially when it's mostly advertisements on this station. Be sure to tune in online or at 97.9FM

Also, a comment was made in regard to a US District court's ruling on the National Guard not being allowed in California and the president was doing things wrong, without any comment about what was going on with the crime citation and the entire subject and acknowledging it would most likely be reversed on appeal like all of their other reversals. It is also very important that people verify the information they here on different news and radio channels to, not get caught up with bad and untruthful information.

In fact, this is the only radio station in the USA that's ever been bombed in an effort to get it off the air. Not just once, but twice the KKK bombed this station to get them to keep quiet. But this radio station isn't very good at staying quiet- what good radio stations remain quiet? They came back each time louder and better! They do a lot of political talks on this station. Get ready for a lean to the left. But my favorite part is when they play the eclectic foreign music- especially the Bollywood music. There's just something great about jamming to the sitar while cruising down Westheimer. It's Houston's home to Al Jazeera on the radio dial. The DJs are kinda special. They just run their own show, which they're interested in. It's not like they're all spinning the same music. I think they're all volunteers. I believe that if you have an idea for a show, they'll let you show up and broadcast if you ask nicely enough!
