The actors' makeup was on point and the costumes-wow!! Everyone really put their heart into it. The jump scares were legit too-to the point I screamed pretty much nonstop. I thought I did a review because it's been years since I visited. I was drawn to this business page because on this morning's news they said what they called the Firefighters Museum (and they said it is on Prince Street), was closed! They said it was closed indefinitely because of structural issues in the 120 year old building where the museum is housed. I've searched the web and this is the only museum I can find related Fire Departments and the history of Firefighters in NYC. I'm finally doing my review so you will check before you visit. This museum may be temporarily closed. I'm going to look for my additional photos to post. It's definitely an overdue review!

It was less exciting than I'd hoped--I guess I'd expected to see, I don't know, like one fire truck that looks like the ones in his books--but it was still a worthwhile stop, and he enjoyed himself quite a bit. The museum is small, housed in an old fire station in Hudson Square, with exhibits spread out across a couple of floors. You enter and exit through the gift shop, which is also where you purchase tickets. The guy at the register was very nice, and we bought three adult tickets (mom, dad, grandma) at $10 apiece, all so the little one, whose ticket was "free," could enjoy fifteen minutes roaming among the firefighting artifacts. I think we were the only visitors the entire time we were there. We saw a handful of old fire engines spread out between the two floors, and these were pretty cool, and Leo recognized them as fire trucks of sorts and enjoyed looking at and discussing their big wheels. He was less interested in the smaller items, which would probably be intriguing to slightly older kids. We also kept him out of the 9/11 memorial room, which seemed less designed for boisterous toddlers than the rest of the place, but which we adults appreciated. I honestly think our kid's favorite part of the museum might have been the gift shop, where I discovered that my son understands the concept of buying things and taking them home. He wanted every fucking variant on a fire truck toy--squishy and plastic, small and large; ambulance, van, engine. We settled on a big fire truck with an extendable ladder, which is now one of his favorite toys. It was over $40 and one of the stickers started peeling off pretty immediately, but I do think it's reasonably solid quality. We bought the same one for a friend's two-year-old, as well as a soft toy for his baby sister, both of which went over well. We also got an FDNY T-shirt for Leo, so the museum made a decent amount of money off of us. I'm guessing we didn't see all there was to see, but as our two-year-old wasn't clamoring to learn about the fire department's history, I think we did things right. We had a pleasant visit at the NYC Fire Museum and would recommend it if you or your small ones are fascinated by firefighting.

I…read moregraduated from NYU about 15 years ago and may have walked past this building hundreds of times and never noticed it. I'm so glad I learned about it and visited this past weekend! So what is it? Chaim Gross was a modern American sculpture who immigrated to New York in 1921 and spent his life creating sculptures in wood and other materials for the next 70 years (he passed in 1991). In 1963, he and his family moved to this building, which served as their home and his studio. Now, you can tour the buiding, both his studio space (which has an incredible amount of his work) and a level that served as their home (which contains the art of many of his famous and talented friends and family). The tours are about an hour and very personal (they're kept small). Harriett was my guide on Friday, and she was wonderful - so informative and passionate and lovely. This is an incredible space. To learn about an artist and his work in the place where he created it was very special. If you're interested in art, artists, or sculpture, this is a must do tour. A real NYC treat.

To use a cliche phrase, this place, located in the East Village, really is a hidden gem! The…read moreformer residence of renowned sculptor, Chaim Gross, and his wife, Renee, this museum of sorts offers three floors of amazing art and antique/vintage furnishings. The first floor boasts Chaim's studio, which still has unfinished works on view. You can see his tools and his workspace as he kept it. The first floor also shows off a plethora of his impressive, beautiful, ethereal wooden sculpture work. Brittany, my guide, taught me so much about the work, the tools, and the type of wood/mediums Chaim used. The second floor is used as a gallery space for rotating exhibitions. The exhibition on view when I went revolves around immigrant art. Most of the art belonged to the Gross family, as they were major collectors. Such haunting, thought provoking pieces. The third floor is maintained as the Gross family had it during their residency--the kitchen, living room, dining room. Full of Chaim and Renee's favorite personal pieces, including an expansive African art collection. Brittany did a great job of painting a vivid picture of their life as social, well connected artists in the east village. Tours are 15 dollars per person and given on limited days and times. You can visit their website for specifics. Worth a visit, with some amazing art--some better and more interesting than the pieces found in the MET, the Whitney, or MoMa.

Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 1900. 1971 - New Jersey register of historic places. 1982 - President Reagan with Lee Iacocca raised funds for restoration and preservation of Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. 1990 - Restoration and re-opening. 1993 - NY City Landmark. 2016 - Statue of Liberty Museum.

While I had an aisle seat, I found it difficult to see around the person in front of me. In addition to being short, there is no downward slope to the rows of seating at Dreamcatcher. The only other comment I have has to do w/ the restroom in the lounge area. It's a single restroom with a large window. The lower half of the window is frosted, but the upper half isn't...That wouldn't be much of a problem if there wasn't a mirror on the opposite wall. The theater has a three story house as a neighbor and the third floor window can see the reflection in the mirror, therefore the person on the toilet. I admit I was disturbed by that. Also, not sure if this is true for all performances and it wasn't a big deal for me, but when we went to Dreamcatcher on Saturday night, the audience was 75% adults 55+.
