I'm honestly surprised by the amount of negative reviews this store has gotten. The Krisers staff, both grooming and sales have been nothing but, pleasant, attentive, and showing great expertise in animal care. Every adoption event I've attended has been a pleasant experience as well. During these events (as recently as a couple of weeks ago), I met both their current groomer and bather, both of whom gave me no reason to believe for a second that they would ever hurt an animal, as they also are pet owners and treat each clients animals safely and with great care. So a combination of a knowledgable staff, expert grooming, and community outreach. A great place for any pet owner! read more

I am selective with my golden retriever's care due to his anxiety and epilepsy. James is exceptional! We do the expedited morning grooming (less than 1 1/2 hours) and my senior pup (11 years old) is well-cared for and not only looks/smells great, but is more comfortable in the summer months after his deshedding. Always an amazing place. The staff there are SUPER knowledgeable and friendly, and the groomers, Cass and James, always do a wonderful job. My poodle, Teddy, has some issue about having his paws touched and he usually needs a muzzle for any grooming. Somehow, James manages to groom him without a muzzle and still keep all his fingers. The bone and treat plug for our pup. Got her groomed once here and they did an alright job. We got her groomed to remove some of the knots in her fur, and they removed 90% of them. Still a little disappointed all weren't out and her coat wasn't fully examined. Tad is always awesome at picking out treats for the pup and she loves them! read more

I brought my Bichon in and he was "groomed" by Jessie. We did talk about cutting him short but not shaving him. My poor dog is a pink skinned dog and he has no fur to cover his body. In addition to shaving him down to the skin she removed his tail as well. Yes he may have had some knots there but I don't believe she even tried to remove them. This is the worst haircut I ever had for my dog. He has a beautiful coat which is not literally gone. I will never have my dog groomed at Kriser's again. When I called to talk to her, she told me rather sarcastically that if I had brushed him this wouldn't have happened. I brush my dog regularly. Please do not bring your dog to have Jessie groom him. I am very displeased with the cut and the groomer. read more

James always does such a fantastic job with our CKCS. The front staff is also super friendly and all animal lovers. We went to Kriser's in the city before we moved up to the suburbs and this location is even better. They do a wonderful job and don't ask that you leave your pup trapped at their location all day (usually lasts 2 hours for our guy)- as an owner of an anxious dogs, I'm grateful for this. It's a good sign when your pup realizes he's about to be groomed & wags his tail fearlessly rather than doing a "180" at the door (We've been there!). Ziggy, our (third) Australian Labradoodle is 2yo, 33 lbs, & he LOVES James, his groomer at KRISER's in Eden's Plaza. We love James too. He listens attentively to & FOLLOWS my requests. He's sweet & easygoing with Ziggy, who arrives cute-but-shaggy & emerges 2 hours later looking bright-eyed, relaxed, & sparklingly handsome. James artfully returns Ziggy to a pristine version of his "original" self--to rave reviews from family & friends. (And without the stress of waiting an hour-plus in a cage until it's his turn!) The folks working the store are always agreeable--& dog lovers too. I feel I must mention that I requested James after a less happy experience with another groomer (same location), who delivered my poor pup back to me shaved down to his pink skin (!) along with the bizarre observation, "He [the dog] doesn't really seem to know how to be groomed"!‍ Hopefully that groomer has moved on. I am a very picky perfectionist person who hates to write reviews. I don't have enough time for it and don't like the process. However, when you come across an outstanding service, like what Jessie does.... you just have to do it. She is a phenomenal groomer. Skilled, professional, patient and accommodating. We probably have the hardest dog to groom. He's a thick and dense hair Lhasa Apso and Jessie nails it every time. She's a rockstar and we are forever grateful. read more

Krisers was very kind professional and well priced. My dog misbehaved a bit and the manager coped beautifully. It's nice to go to a pet store/ groomer that is clearly good at what they do. My dog had a nail clipping. The groomer was Excellent and even responded when I said that my dogs friend was also there and allowed the dogs to say Hi. I can find just about anything I could ever need or want for my pups and kitty. From adorable little pj sets, to new and exciting treats, tough and stuffed toys and their favorite food: Primal! I love how they treat my babies like little celebrities every time we come into the store too! Anna is Willow's (pictured) favorite person! Tad and Michelle are also great at suggesting new products. We have two long haired cats that are beautiful and sweet, but really dislike being groomed. We had tried a few different groomers in the city, and one of our cats even had a red flag in her file labeled "difficult client." Years ago we found Jessie at a previous location and like cat groupies, we have followed her to a suburban location 10 miles away! Kriser's is a more calm setting for our two cats, and we know our girls are always in such good hands because of the reliably excellent grooming sessions with Jessie. She is patient with our grumpy old lady especially, and they come home looking gorgeous, tangle free, and trim. Kriser's has always been accommodating with our schedule and all the staff is very friendly. We will continue to travel! read more

Disappointed with the "groom" my 15 pound dog was given yesterday. I asked to have my dog washed and nails trimmed, that was $90.00! Here's the break down $61. to wash the dog, $18 for a shedding treatment and $11.00 to have the nails trimmed - YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Disputing the cost with them did nothing, these are corporate prices and they can't be changed. Therefore, I'm changing - NEVER AGAIN AT KRISER - and sadly the dog is still shedding read more

First time client, I came to pick up my dog a little earlier than told, and watched the end of her groom. They were being very rough with her and I think they might have stabbed her chin with the scissors at one point, her chin was unevenly cut and very sensitive to touch the rest of the week. They also shaved her snout without asking me if that was ok, she looked terrible :( read more

This place was recommended to me by several people who described groomer James as a "dog whisperer". They were right. I explained to him that I needed help getting my dog's long, thick nails under control and he not only cut them better and shorter than I had even hoped, but he devised a plan to get his nails healthy and under control in just a few visits. And the price is better than other places we have tried. Everyone in the shop was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and my dog is very happy - especially about the treats he got. read more

I've only been in here 1 time - but I was so appalled by the owner(?) attitude and lack of knowledge that I will not return. The store is very cute but when I asked if he carried martingale collars, he did not have a clue what it was. He thought it was a brand name. I was explaining to him how a Martingale collar works and it is also known as a limited choke or grey hound collar. He heard the word "choke" and started elevating his voice and told me that he does not sell and would never ever carry an item like that. I tried explaining that it doesn't choke at all. He rolled his eyes and shook his head and told me that HIS customer would NEVER use such an item to choke their dog. WHAT an IDIOT!!!! This man does not understand dogs and that grey hounds necks are bigger than their heads so they need this type of collar. My dog needs it because she has a ton of extra skin/folds on her necks and she needs this for a proper fit so it will not pinch her skin. If the FOOL knew his industry, he would know that this collar is actually LOOSE around the dog's neck. It only tightens up if they pull . It only tightens to the same setting as the collars (buckle backs) he sells!! This collar prevents choking the dog. Research the products ahead of time. He does carry some good food. However do not ask advise from him. He clearly has a very limited knowledge of canine products. read more

I took my puppy here twice for a groom with two different groomers. I asked them to trim her ears which tend to get matted. I didn't know at the time that the brush I was using was not getting the job done to prevent matting. Both groomers left a large mat on the under corner of her ear and did not bother to ask me about it. At first I assumed it was part of her ear because they did not remove it. But then it kept getting bigger. I got my own grooming kit and was able to slowly and carefully remove the mat. It was about a quarter of an inch thick and an inch in circumference. Why both groomers did not bother to remove it, I can only assume as incompentence or laziness. Either way, I will not be bringing my puppy back here. It's way too expensive and I can do a better job myself, even though I have no training or experience. read more

This store mostly carries dog & cat food, but has bird stuff as well. They informally market themselves as the "Whole Foods" for animals, and that's pretty much what they are. Everything in there is ultra-premium, holistic and human grade. While the food seems expensive, I think it's because you get what you pay for - REAL food, not processed stuff. They also have a frozen food section with specialty foods for pets on a raw diet. I must admit, I'm not really on the whole organic/holistic bandwagon, but with three dogs, two of which have health issues, if I can help improve their well-being by feeding them better quality food, I'll do it. And believe, me... they aren't turning it down either! They've scarfed down the stuff I've given them so far. The selection of food is great, they have tons of treats, chew toys, health supplements, grooming supplies, collars, leashes, etc. The three people working there at the time I stopped in were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I was even sent home with a whole bunch of samples for my guys to try out. For a place I had no intention of stopping at, I managed to spend $70. Overall, I'm very glad I stopped in, and I KNOW I'll be back. Now, if they could only manage to put one next to the Whole Foods here in Deerfield... that would be a marketing dream! I like Kriser's. they are little expensive for puppy baths but they do a very nice job. Very nice store too and lots of tempting toys for doggy mommies. I like that corner bakery is just next door so I can get coffee and be right there, but I was not that happy that they had an unleashed dog in a store. Overall pretty good experience. read more

Do not go here for grooming! First they are very expensive. Second they are unreliable. I go there because it is close to my home. This is the third time they have called me the night before to cancel my appointment because the groomer was " sick". Also, they could not get me in until the next week! They also advertised walk in for nail clipping, but when you do the groomer is busy or not there! I used to go there for my food and treats too. They have lost a long time customer. read more

I've had many positive experiences at Krisers. I bring my dogs there for nail trims all the time. My old greyhound has SLO, an auto immune disease in his nail beds that causes them to crack and break off. James, the groomer, is very gentle with him and does a great job. Tad, the manager, is friendly and knowledgeable about all the grain free treats we buy there. It's always a fun experience for me and my dogs, but today was the best. The shop was having a special promotion and my dog Annie received a free nail trim, a massage and a goodie bag! We also paid a talented artist for a k9 caricature. I had an okay experience at this store, but i just went in to buy cat & dog food. The ratio of dog to cat food is enormous! there were five times as many dog food varieties as those for cats. The girl that helped us was very nice, but seemed to point us in the direction of the most expensive food in the joint. it may have been coincidence, but yeah... We ended up picking out mid range [for the store, that is; it's all high-end food] choices for the dog and the cats. there isn't a convenient location to my home, and the prices are a little ostentatious. there are better local options! read more

This is a great spot for grooming! Highly recommend James. My dog loved James and I appreciated how knowledgeable he was. The best part is that they only took an hour for a full groom! The groomer I was using before had my dog for over 5 hours and I felt like I was worrying about her but at Kriser's I had no worries. I won't go anywhere else. read more

This review is long overdue. I actually walked into Kriser's in Wilmette by mistake - as it turned out, this was definitely a good mistake :). I had called another Kriser's to book a first-time grooming appointment and just by pure error arrived at this location. Instead of turning me away, the front desk staff asked me to wait and within minutes introduced me to their groomer Darcey. Darcey was from the get-go so incredibly kind! My 6 month-old Labradoodle Mila is a nervous-nelly and Darcey put her at ease with her warm and friendly personality. Darcey was very thorough introducing herself to me and asking questions on what I was looking for in a haircut for Mila. After my chat with Darcey, I felt very comfortable leaving Mila for a few hours to get pampered. As promised, I received a phone call when it was time to pick up my little girl and I just about died when I saw her! She was - simply put - ADORABLE! Her haircut was beautiful, but most importantly she seemed relaxed and happy. My feelings were confirmed when we returned a couple weeks later and Mila was jumping with excitement the second she realized where she was! With Mila's 2nd session with Darcey being even more amazing, we knew we had found our permanent groomer. Thank you, thank you, thank you Darcey for not only making Mila look so beautiful, but for being so attentive and loving in the work you do. It is very clear you put your heart into the animals you work with and I so greatly appreciate that. Since then, my appreciation for Kriser's beyond their grooming services has grown and I am now a huge fan of the store and their wonderful staff. I have bought Mila's first winter coat here, I love picking her food from their top-of-the-line healthy choices, and I have had the pleasure of speaking with the manager Tad when he so patiently answered my never-ending questions over the phone. I don't normally leave reviews, but I needed to for this situation. I dropped my dog off to get a normal grooming. I came back to see that they had totally shaved off all of her beautiful long ears without me asking! She is a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and prior to the visit had gorgeous long fur. When I came back, she was totally shaved everywhere! The worst part was the ears. I was left in tears. Do not take your dog here! They will come out looking awful! I will not be returning. read more

I was pleased to visit Kriser's,again, the other day to stock up on cat food. Last time I was in, they suggested I try the new Stella and Chewy's cat food with my finicky kitty....It worked! The staff here is so helpful! They also helped me find a wonderful sitter for my cats. Great selection of food, friendly staff, great resource for locals services for customers pets and grooming! This place is awesome! The helpful blonde young lady that helped my wife and I the first time is Ashley. It sure says a lot about a place that when you go in they remember their customer's name as well as the suggestions they made to me in regards to my pet. I recommend them to anyone! read more

James does a great job on our standard poodle and our little rat terrier! We prefer to not have the poodle shaved and James always does his best and takes extra time to comb out any matted areas and leave our poodle puffy! Both dogs look great and are happy not to be there all day long! read more

I have shopped here for cat food several times, and I've never been disappointed. When I noticed a grooming sign in the window, I inquired about having my cat's nails trimmed. "No problem, " she said. So, we got there on a Saturday morning, just as the store was opening. They took Pip in back to quickly trim his nails before the dog grooming appointments started. I peeked in the window, and the two young women had the "Hannibal Lector" mask on Pip to keep him from biting them. Seconds later, the "groomer" came out with the carrier and stated that she could not do this, as she "didn't want to get bitten or scratched." Well, first of all, she had put the awful muzzle/mask on the cat to prevent biting. Second, she's afraid of getting scratched? She is a groomer, isn't she? I've never been so frustrated and disappointed. Shouldn't a groomer be more skilled than the average cat owner? I'll be taking the cat to the vet for nail trimmings from now on. I just can't believe that someone who calls herself a groomer can't trim a cat's nails. Shame on Kriser's for advertising the services of someone so clearly incompetent. read more

I was there at Kriser's last week buying food for my pets. While the cashiers have always been attentive, it was the first opportunity I had to watch dog grooming take place through the glass door. The sign on the door says we are welcome to observe, but to not interrupt the groomers. I saw a young woman being very rough with a small dog, harshly pushing it around the table (while its head was held by a leash), yanking a brush roughly around its ears and fur - the dog was clearly very scared. When she picked up the dog to remove it from the table I heard the dog yelping in pain (I couldn't see what kind of hold she was using). I would never take my dog to be groomed here based on what I saw. read more

My dog Raven has a skin condition which requires special care and treatment. That's why I come here to have her groomed with James, Cass, and Jessie. No matter what the day, they treat her with 1 on 1 attention and make sure that she's comfortable for the entirety of her groom. Another bonus is that she doesn't have to be separated from me for hours. Raven gets to come back home from her spa day in just about an hour, which is impressive since she is a large girl. Whatever Groomer was working on April 11 at 12:00 noon - they hurt my dog. I did not notice it until I got her home. She is a sweet and fearful dog and wants to hide all the time. Her mood was very fearful - much more than before. We usually take her for a run and then i noticed she had a limp and could not run much less jump up into the back of the car. I will never take my dog there. I will go to a couple of specialty places who only do grooming with strong Yelp reviews. The Kriser's chain makes their money in a number of ways and clearly does not pay enough attention to details such as making sure they have groomers who are professionals. I will now need to take my dog to the vet to determine a wellness plan. read more

I love having a place like Krisers around for quality food and advice for my cats. I recently had to put one of my two cats to sleep, and my remaining kitty was very disturbed by everything around that event. I tried all I could think of to make her comfortable and get us back to normal, but she ran away and hid most of the time. To make matters worse, she developed an eye issue at this time that required daily medication, and this made her more nervous and skittish. I went to Krisers and got some really helpful advice from Alexis, including great tips I hadn't thought of for making Polly feel safe again. Alexis's thoughtful advice was a godsend during a really tough time, and I am very grateful for her knowledge and level of caring. Her suggestions really helped get us over the hump and back to normal. I am glad to have the quality food selection at Krisers, coupled with caring and knowledgeable associates like Alexis to tap into. Not to mention all the fun, quality goodies they have there. In my 20+ years of dog ownership I have never had a more negative experience or been treated more abrasively than when I went to Kriser's to inquire about a senior dog food for my dog. We purchased Fromm for many years and our vet recommended we switch to a lower protein senior food, so I was hoping they would have good choices. When I asked about the products the salesperson showed me a brand that was very high quality but also very high protein. When I told her that our vet suggested a lower protein diet for our dog she told me "Your vet is wrong; all senior dog foods are high protein and senior dogs need extra protein." I reiterated that our vet really emphasized less protein and the response was repeated, "Well, he is wrong! Maybe you should just feed your dog less of your regular food." She then walked away towards another customer. I left feeling very frustrated and more than a little upset with the total lack of respect, lack of consideration and complete lack of knowledge apparent in this brief exchange. After making a special trip there I will never go there again. I remembered another store, Wags on Willow, and when I went there so as not to waste the trip they helped me compare foods in their inventory so that I could purchase an appropriate lower protein senior food for my dog. read more
