This is a very small unassuming place. The ladies cut my dogs nails right in front of me. They lifted my senior dog on the table and I was able to watch. It really meant a lot to me to be able to see her and be with her. My senior dog was not stressed and didn't have to hop of a very high table. I really appreciate their kindness and help. I would give it zero stars if I could. The odor was overwhelming as soon as I walked in the door. They didn't require vaccination records, which should've been a huge red flag! I took my dog in for a nail trim and they cut one of her nails so deep into the quick that it left small puddles of blood on the car seat cover. When I cleaned it up at home I wiped a small piece of skin tissue from between her pads. Now I have to worry about possible infection. It was a very small space with a lot of cats and dogs in cages and it was also quite dirty. read more

My long haired puppy was previously groomed at a shop that did not respect his breed and used a clipper to make my pup look like every other pup with a clipped cut. April is assisting me in allowing my pup to grow his hair when the other shop butchered his breed specific hair. April gave me a tutorial on how to brush my pup and it is working!. He is behaving when brushed when he previously would turn his head and nip, nip, nip. My experience was positive, positive, positive. Our 80 pound dog was terrified of Animal Artistry after being groomed there about 8 times. He refused to get out of the car when we arrived and was shaking in fear. I think he was crammed in a small cage for 4-5 hours and perhaps treated roughly while being groomed. He is super sweet and submissive so I felt very guilty about how he was treated. The dog looked great after being groomed but it was totally not worth it to traumatize him. We changed groomers and he is no longer afraid. read more

The groomer here is literally "The Dog Whisperer". :) She has a way of calming down pups and making them feel at ease. She has so much PATIENCE which is crucial for nervous or squirmy pups. She does a fantastic job and listens to all of your grooming instructions. So happy I found this place! The only downfall is this is cash only (no credit card). STAY AWAY!! This place is practically criminal!! This is by far the worst groom our poor dog has ever had. I can't believe they cut her eyelashes! Why would you do this - eyelashes protect the dog's eyes. April hacked at her fur which is so uneven all over and is way too short. Her bangs look like a first grader cut them. And to add insult to injury this was a more expensive groom than the really good ones we've had elsewhere. read more

Awful experience. Brought my little 11# rescue there yesterday after being told on the phone she had a cancellation. Returned after 4 hours as I was told she ( Sherry ? She never gave me her name) wasn't done and needed just a little more time. When I said " an hour" she answered " oh yes that's great". I told her I'd come at 4 but I needed to be at work at 4:30. Well, I arrived and my dog was in the back in a cage and was not done. I asked for my dog and her helper said " you mean the yappy one"? They couldn't fine his leash. His grooming job ......I will be looking for someone to even him out without traumatizing him.....that won't take 5 hours...... most of it in a cage. Please don't bring your dog here. read more

We have been taking our large golden doodle to April at Animal Artistry for over five years; she has a great love for animals and it shows in her work. April often has rescued animals at the front of the store, which she is taking care until they find their forever homes. Our doodle has extremely long lashes and we have them trimmed when necessary so she can see better. It has been my experience April will shave or cut the fur short when necessary, when it would have taken many hours to comb out, been painful for our dog, and very costly (several hundred). I have found discussing with April before grooming is the best for everyone's expectations. April will go out of her way to fit us in on short notice; she is hard working, putting in long hours in order to accommodate everyone. All this to say if you want someone that genuinely cares about your pet, I recommend April! read more

We tried many other groomers and this is the only shop that is able to make her look adorable when we pick her up AND she continues to look good for weeks after as her coat grows out. Do not bring your pet to get groomed here ever. For years I was bringing my dog here. I would come five hours later to pick her up. She was not ready and was kept in a cage without being let out. After leaving my dog was scared and did not act herself for days. I do not believe animals are treated humanely at this groomer. read more

There isn't any other groomer that I would recommend, other than April Perry at Animal Artistry. She has worked with Roll Over Animal Rescue for many years now, bathing, grooming and even fostering for our group. There have been many times that we have pulled senior dogs and grossly matted dogs from high kill shelters and the time and care she takes with each one of them is beyond incredible. She is gentle and kind with all the dogs, puppies and cats that she grooms for us. Because she is so skillful and gentle she has saved many coats on the dogs we rescue instead of just shaving them off, which can be even more painful for them. April and the shop employees are always there, sometimes even at 2am, when we need them to bathe, give flea bathes, or groom dogs that have come off the transport from Kentucky. Not only is she extremely skilled in grooming, she takes the time needed for each dog to make them comfortable during their visit there. Her continued help with our rescue is greatly appreciated................she is the first stop on their road to their forever homes. I have a giant white beast/dog with an attitude who hates water and is impossible to bath at home. So I searched far and wide for a groomer who can handle him and get him back to his original white. I've tried petsmarts among others and was shocked to pay more for him than my own cut and color job! Not only where these places expensive and charged for all the "extras" like clipping nails and brush outs- per minute, but they didn't do a very good job and i got a grayish dog back. Then a trainer suggested Animal Artistry and my beast has never looked better. This is no small feat, he's BIG and VERY hairy. I drop him off before work or sometimes at lunch and pick him up after. I have known April for more than a decade. She has groomed my family's Standard Poodle for the better part of 12 years. She has also been grooming a more recent addition to our pack, a Newfoundland, for about 2 years. Grooming either of them is no easy task, but they always come back looking and feeling great. We took our cats here to get a hair cut. You would think that a professional groomer would nicely trim them up and make them look presentable. When we picked our cats up, they were shaved almost completely bald. They look absolutely horrendous, not to mention, now they have become depressed and all they keep doing is crying and licking themselves. When we asked why they were completely shaved they said "well you didn't specify." I'm sorry, but as a professional, you should know that is not ok. Never coming back and wouldn't recommend to anyone, especially for a whopping $70. read more

I have been taking my cat to April for many years to get a "lion cut" and have to say that she does excellent work. My cat does not give me much grief when I put him in his carrier as he used to! I swear that he loves to get shaved! Not only does he act calm with April, he actually knows when it's time to turn to his side! That is April's calm nature that he is assured. I also have 2 dogs that I bring to get their nails trimmed. At the vet, it take 3-4 people to hold them to do the clipping and they are terrified by the ordeal. I feel the need to speak up after all these years. I brought my cat to her, ONCE, many years ago when I was looking for a groomer who would take cats. I explained to her that he had bad knees and would be heading into surgery within the next 6 months. She assured me she would be gentle with him and he would be fine. I arranged to drop him off one morning, and pick him back up later that afternoon. Well, I got him home, and tried to get him out of his carrier, but he wouldn't be budged. I had to take the top off the carrier and lift him out. When I did, and set him on the floor, he started howling and COULDN'T walk. I called her to find out what had happened (as she had said NOTHING when I picked him up), and she insisted she hadn't done anything. I'm sorry, but if she hadn't done anything to him, he would have been able to walk after getting him home, but he could NOT walk. I raced him to the emergency room, and thankfully they were able to give him medication to relax him and temporarily fix his knees, but thanks to whatever she did to him, I was forced to have his surgery moved up immediately. If you care ANYTHING about your pets, do NOT trust her with them! I never said anything on the web at the time, because I didn't know about yelp then. But I have always told people face to face looking for a groomer for their pet to stay away from Animal Artistry because of what she did to my cat in making his condition worse and then lying to me about it, saying she'd done nothing to him when it was OBVIOUS that she'd done SOMETHING to him which prevented him from walking after she'd finished with him. read more

We brought our Yorkie to April yesterday for the first time. He was a knotted mess. I showed April a picture of how I wanted him cut (fairly short but nut buzzed). She asked about how I wanted the ears cut and I left it up to her. When I picked him up, he had the most adorable puppy cut. He was perfect. April was very sweet and I told her I would be back next time. He looked great, he smelled great and his nails were trimmed perfectly. April is truly an artist. My pomeranian is deaf and can have a difficult time when he's not near me. He barks and shakes a lot when he's nervous. April is the only one who can handle him. He always comes out happy and perfectly groomed I either do bath and tidy or have him shaved into a lion cut in the summer. Her prices are more than fair for all of the work she does. Saturday late afternoon I was in a huge bind! My dog had a very dirty tush and wouldn't sit still to let me clean him. After calling a few places, and having no luck...I came upon Animal Artistry and gave them a call. I explained my "situation" and was told, "no problem, come on in". Within a half hour I arrived and my BIG puppy was NOT having it! He was dragging his feet, and I couldn't get him in the door...no amount of treats or coaxing would do the trick! Although we arrived last minute and there were other dogs being groomed the ladies at Animal Artistry welcomed me and my pup and were as sweet as could be. You could feel their love for animals, and it was truly refreshing as I sadly do not feel that same warmth with other groomers in the area. Once we finally got my BIG furry baby inside the owner lovingly scooped my 65 lb pup up like he was a feather and carried him back and in 2 SECONDS flat....no more dirty tush! I had been trying to clean him (to NO avail) for hours, making myself dizzy as I chased him in circles. Not only did it take two seconds, when I asked how much I owed the owner told me nothing! I am truly impressed with Animal Artistry and plan on bringing my dogs to be fully groomed there in the future. They took very good care of us at a moments notice and I am very thankful for their patience and generosity.
