Always a consistent experience for us. Fast and friendly…read moreservice. You feel like a local when you eat here. It's a clean family style setting - wooden chairs and tables. Great for larger and smaller groups. It was fun to see kids here before their prom/dance. It's really for everyone here. We ALWAYS order breakfast here - it's consistently great! I love their pancakes and their hash. Before we leave, we always get a few things to-go. The most recent trip we were lucky enough to snag their famous dinner rolls. So good for the holidays...or in our case...Sunday LOL We are a fan of their cookies as well. The pumpkin chip ones are our favorites. If you don't see something, you can ask, as they might have more in the back. Always a great time when we are up North a few times a year.

Not sure if they were having an off-day today or they've been sliding downhill but today's experience was far from ok. Starting with the good. It was quite busy when we arrived around 7:30 pm and despite this the waitstaff were very friendly and were helping each other out. The server who brought our drinks even brought shorter "kids-size" straws for the children. Very thoughtful. Our primary server (Kallie B.) was covering several tables in our section and had signaled that she was coming to take our order when she accidentally spilled a drink at the next table. She was apologetic to that that group and moved quickly to clean it up but knew that we had been waiting a long while to order, so asked another server to come and take our order. Again, thoughtful. The food was simply not good today. We were a group of 6 adults and 2 children. Most had fries with our meals. They were all very undercooked - as if they were rushed. The bacon on my wife's club sandwich was undercooked. Several of us left large portions of our meals barely touched because they just didn't taste good. I had ordered steak tips. I tried to eat the first two and were so chewy that I had to put them in my napkin. I left the rest on my plate. This leads to an important recommendation. While the staff's teamwork and friendliness was great, the servers would benefit from some training in attention to signs that customers are having issues with their meal. While our server did ask at one point how everything was, she did so hastily and said, "ok? Good." without waiting for an actual response. She didn't seem to notice that I hadn't eaten my $21 steak tips meal - or if she had noticed, didn't bother to ask about it. It felt insincere. Likewise, a lack of inquiry for the barely touched french fries and portions of several meals left on plates. In a word, today was disappointing. I hope they'll do better.

I had the burger special which was fucking fantastic! I was getting pretty tired of seafood at this point and it was the most refreshing change of pace. It was one of those just in time food experiences. C went for the crab cakes. What a gorgeous version of crab cakes they were! Fancy pants presentation and all things considered some of the best crab cakes we had on our trip. Bartender was really friendly and was super proud of their whiskey/bourbon collection. He did point out a few bottles to us that were really quite special and hard to come across. They had some Penelope variants that were unseen to me. I would come back in a heartbeat. If I lived nearby, I would be here all of the time. There were a ton of interesting menu items I would like to try. '26 - 26

We ordered the baked lobster dinner and while decent in taste of haddock stuffing in the baked whole lobster and size of it, it took entirely too long (35 minutes) , not because the kitchen was heavy on orders and lean on staff, it was audibly clear that there was way too much fooling around going on and not enough cooking. I worked in the oil and gas industry so cursing starts to become white noise to me, however, I felt uncomfortable for the elderly patrons and children present with all the F-bombs that were being announced from the kitchen and launched at the waitress. Clearly it is a favorite with locals (as evidence in the bar area) and I can see why with how great the servers/bartender are but the wait compounded by the inedible sides (a canned green bean, frozen veg mix with peppers that was intensely bitter and mashed potatoes that were clearly sitting in a warmer for too long just isn't worth a second trip. It was Saturday and apparently besides the slim pickings, everyone rolls up the sidewalk by 7 or 8 respectively so we went there by default, not design.

Big crowd slowed the service at first but the waitress apologized and made up for it with quick and pleasant service once she got to us. Food was really good. Crab Stew was the best crab soup we ever had; chock full with a ton af crab meat and a nice creamy, buttered broth. No potatoes. Lobster Risotto was baked in scallop shells topped with bread crumbs and was delicious. Regular menu included mussels as well as fried seafood and assorted burgers. A tall glass dessert case as you come in was very tempting but with soup, salad and Risotto we were filled to the gills. I wish we had the time to try it again this year.

Fast forward, we moved away to Arizona for 14 years before moving back to New England. Just had lunch at Darby's to celebrate our anniversary. It was perfect as always So often when you visit an old favorite it's not so wonderful anymore. But Darby's is the exception. Same charming and spotlessly clean interior, same amazing food and wonderful friendly service. Today, we started off with a bowl of French fries as an appetizer and they were fantastic! I had macaroni and cheese (without the Cheez It topping due to an allergy to orange cheese). My husband had the chicken pad Thai and he said it was fantastic just as it always has been in the past. The server was superb. My husband asked if the Mac and cheese was white cheese and learned it was so I ordered that explaining to the server that I was really happy that it was white cheese as I have an allergy to annatto which is in orange cheese. She immediately alerted me to the fact that they top their Mac and cheese with crumbled Cheez Its and asked if I'd like her to hold those off. It was really refreshing to have a server so aware of a likely issue with an ingredient for a customer. Just fantastic personalized service. Thank you! We will be back again next year. Several things were not available after we ordered them (we should have been told when ordering). We waited so long for drinks, then for one appetizer, then 5 dinners arrived and 1 did not, for another 15 minutes. We had asked about the size of scallops, server said big. When they arrived they may have been big at one time but there was maybe 3 scallops cut into pieces and spread out in a dish. It was terrible. 2 orders of steak tips ordered Medium were served pretty much less than rare and sent back. They came back medium rare. The meat in the reuben was full of gristle.
