I am surprised that some people think he's nice and attentive! I have had him for a number of…read moreyears. For the most part he is just "matter of fact". At times he had even been curt especially if I ask questions like " can you explain what causes this", or " What are the side affects of this drug". He even got pissed at me when I started looking at the internet to answer these questions. I don't feel like he really cares. Also, I have have various medical problems now that I'm older and have found that he not only doesn't check on these, I am left feeling unheard and dismissed. I have had many nurses who were much better in all of these regards. I can say more, but let's just say... I will be changing to Kaiser in the new year. This is the fist time that I've ever posted a poor review.

My husband was & firstly this doctor was rude to my husband as he said nothing but give his name I suppose since my husband passed the phone to me and told me the doctor's name who called for me. I take the cell phone and expected at least a 'Hi/Hello so and so and I'm calling to find out what's going on with you...' , What I got was SILENCE. Did not initiate the conversation and asked for my symptoms as other doctors would do. Instead he said nothing so I had to ask if he wanted to know my symptoms since I had NO IDEA what he expected firstly to hear from me. After I told him he just said to stop taking the medicine and to call my PCP the next morning. Hung up. Gosh. I could have just thought of that myself, gee. A compassionless, unhelpful, unprofessional, rude person who should never be a doctor or be employed in any field that has to deal with people. Or maybe he is partial only to CERTAIN people of certain races, etc.

Staff is impatient and rude. Very Disappointing Experience with Dr. Lawrence L. Chao's Office…read more I read great reviews about Dr. Lawrence L. Chao, M.D. and was planning to schedule a visit. However, my experience with the front office today was extremely disappointing. Here's what happened: First call (11:03 AM): I was asked for my insurance information and told someone would call me back. No one did. Second call (2:00 PM): I followed up and was told the person who helped me earlier was on lunch, and they'd get back to me. Third call (2:30 PM): I was abruptly told, "We don't take PPO. Bye." I double-checked with UHC Plus, and they confirmed that Dr. Chao is in-network. Fourth call (2:45 PM): I called again, and this time was told, "We're not taking new patients." Four calls. Four different answers. It was confusing, unprofessional, and honestly very disappointing, especially for a doctor with such good reviews. I hope this feedback reaches the right person because patient experience starts with the front desk -- and today, it failed completely.

Unfortunately, I had to leave Dr. Fong's office due to my interactions with their secretary,…read moreSusanna. I did not feel like I was treated with kindness, empathy or compassion from Susanna, and it made every administrative task to get an appointment stressful. Example: I called in to cancel an appointment three business days in advance due to being potentially scheduled for jury duty that week. I was asked to hold the phone call, then hung up on. Then when I dialed back, I was berated, and accused of doing this consistently. Three business days is very reasonable given my civil duty, which I may be criminally liable for if I do not show up for jury duty. I asked Susanna if there was a written policy that forbids clients from canceling three business days in advance. She said no. (Lots of question marks on why I was treated that way. Oh well, moving on.) I hope this feedback serves as a wake-up call for the doctor's office to address the shortcomings in their administrative staff and improve the overall patient experience. I doubt there will be positive changes within the customer care, given comments say Susanna is his wife. Until then, I'll be seeking medical care elsewhere.

Worst health care experience I've ever had in my entire life - seriously. I just returned from the…read moreValley Health Urgent Care center in San Jose, CA for back pain. I talked to the medical resident for a while who then went off to talk to Dr. Jain. After 4 minutes they both returned and I thought I would get heard by the doctor, but as I was describing my experience and situation she looked totally uninterested like she had already made up her mind, and then she began interrupting and disputing everything I said to the point it is almost crazy-making. If you've ever been in pain and not only ignored by a doctor, but looked at like you are a drug addict and anything you say is interrupted and disputed you would know just how it amplifies your pain, and is humilitating and depressing. I had an experience with back pain so intense like this 20 years ago and was given a short course of pain meds that allowed me to get up and around to work and life enough that my back recovered. She refused to even think about it or give me any alternatives, cut me off and left. ???? I am determined to do whatever I can to be heard on this issue. I've read article after article about how doctors are supposed to be taking patients pain complaints seriously on the one hand, but it is an absolute horror to be sitting there in pain while a person who has encountered you for all of several minutes judges you while you are in pain and makes you feel like a criminal. I got a complaint form, which one cannot enter from the web or email - to make it as hard as possible, and I intend to fill it out, as well as try to find some managers of authority at Valley Health Care to explain and complain to. This is unacceptable, and on top that regardless of my experience she is paid by insurance for providing 5 minutes of misery, and abuse. I have not been on Yelp now, maybe for years, but I am starting here. If anyone reads this and knows of an agency to complain to, or somewhere where real concerned medical professionals take their patients seriously please message me. This woman is awful - rated 0/5 ( side note - if drug addition is such a danger why is there not a system that tracks how much and what medication a person has been prescribed, what they have taken, and then with proof make fact-based decisions and not just assume everyone is lying or seeking drugs? I have not had needed or had any pain medications prescribed for over 20 years - the last thing I am is a drug abuser - and it is offensive and outrageous for a doctor not to provide relief. If I then kept coming back week after week, then she might have some basis for calling out a problem, but not for no reason when someone is in pain. )
