My husband previously worked in Hollywood and after reviewing the websites of other shortlisted, he really liked Katie's understanding of lighting. As my fiancé and I planned our wedding, we agreed our contracts with vendors would be much more than meeting our needs. We wanted to have a good rapport with each one and our interaction to be an encouragement. Sure, our wedding could be "just another job" for them -- but we'd intentionally invest time, energy and of course, funds in their work. When we reached out to Katherine, she established a great professional first impression: congratulating us (before we got carried away with planning details) and communicating in a personable and timely manner. We scheduled a few conference calls due to distance. Katie presented herself well and answered our open-ended questions candidly, putting us at ease fairly quickly. By the time we met in-person on the day of the wedding, we were comfortable with her and her behind-the-camera instruction. Her tone was relaxing, so it was more like advice than direction. :D She and her assistant wonderfully managed our family who waited for group photos; we got through the list more quickly than I expected. Although my husband and I got married during peak wedding season, Katie got online proofs to us in a reasonable period (and as stated in the contract). Newlywed life gets pretty busy, so we waited to finalize the images in our album. The timing of the delivery was a pleasant surprise -- coinciding with our six month anniversary and Christmas.

Katie is everything you would want in a wedding photographer and more. Because we had to reschedule our original 2020 wedding due to the pandemic, we had the opportunity to work with Katie three times - our engagement shoot, our intimate 2020 wedding and our 2021 wedding celebration. My husband and I are both a bit shy and awkward in front of the camera, but Katie effortlessly talked us through each pose as she clicked her camera. Although I generally do not enjoy taking a ton of photos, the sessions never felt like work, but hanging out with a (very professional) friend who happened to be taking our photos. At both our weddings, she was so patient with all our family members who we wanted to be included in the photos. With her calming presence and get it done attitude, Katie is the perfect balance. WE LOVE OUR PHOTOS. Katie is MAGIC. After receiving photos from every session, we couldn't believe how good she made us and everything around us look. A note about the pandemic - Katie was so kind and understanding when we had to reschedule our original 2020 wedding. Although this was presumably one of the hardest years for wedding vendors, Katie handled all the changes with so much grace, which made this challenging year of wedding planning so much less stressful for us. For our 2021 wedding celebration, Katie was familiar with our venue and she wasted no time taking us to all the picture perfect spots. My husband and I had Katie by our side almost the entire night (except for when Katie was taking shots of our guests, the venue, etc.) We felt like we didn't just have our photographer with us, but a friend guiding and supporting us through the night. There were a few last minute changes that needed to be made due to factors not under anyone's control (e.g. weather). During one or two moments when it was visibly hard for me to make a decision, Katie gently but confidently gave her advice, which always turned out to be spot-on. To this day, I am certain that there are other details that Katie pitched in to help with, enabling the event to run smoothly, that we will never know. Katie is a professional through and through. Throughout the two years we worked with her, she was always responsive and organized. The online system she uses for payment and information sharing (e.g. questionnaire before the wedding) was so user friendly. Although this may not seem like a big deal, it really is when you're working with a variety of vendors and trying to keep track of all your wedding details. My wedding was very busy, a full itinerary at the hotel we got ready at, the church, and then the Grand Island Mansion, and they worked extremely hard all day & night with their skills and experience to capture everything beautifully. I was low on time so I did not follow my list of church pix I wanted and missed a few, but remembered Joy has a list and followed that instead. Joy actually tried to get back to my list at the reception too but our program was very busy and could not get to it. There are a few specific pix & people I wanted a pic with but since I opted out of my list and did not have time to check it, I missed photos with those few special people and a bit bummed about it, but again it was a very busy day. I'm glad I had Joy's list to default to, but it would still be a good idea to remember or recheck your own list for a few seconds during your wedding if you really want specific photos or photos with specific people. Overall, it was easy to work with Joy & Dina, and they were very patient with me and my late submission of paperwork. Joy made sure to meet with me and get the answers she needed before the wedding day. During the pictorials, they gave excellent instruction on how to pose, where and made sure to take certain shots during dusk for good lighting and to capture the sunset. Joy also warned me that a pic I wanted of my dress may not have great lighting and recommended another area, but I really wanted that certain spot despite her warnings so she proceeded with what I wanted but appreciate her advice. I'm glad I worked with Joy & Dina. They also seemed to work well together with my videographers. I found Joy Photography on theknot.com and so glad I did. I can't wait to see how our wedding photos turned out and pretty sure I will love them! I would recommend Joy Photography if you're looking for a photographer to capture special moments for your wedding or any occasion.

I work out with Meghan and she came to my rescue, assuring me that she would get me one photo. Meghan was very professional. I told her that I wanted to do a shoot in the library and she went ahead of time to check it out for us. When we showed up, she was ready to rock, which was great because I had no idea what else to do. I was nervous because my fiancé doesn't really like taking photos, but Meghan was so nice and sweet. He began to feel very comfortable and starting having fun. We ended up having so much fun with Meghan and ended up taking tons of silly and great photos. On the day of the wedding Megan was pleasantly efficient, which is EXACTLY what you want when faced with a sprawling woodland venue, a tight timeline, and a large family to wrangle. Megan's cheery personality and hyper-organized plan allowed us to relax knowing that we could enjoy the event fully while she captured the day. She knew the venue intimately and made sure we took advantage of the most beautiful locations and light. We had a few specific shots that we requested (see: dapper dudes sock photo) which Megan made sure to capture. Beyond that, we trusted her to do her thing and I was so happy with the outcome. The result was a set of beautifully shot and varied photos that reflected the mood of the day and the care put into the event: dramatic fall landscapes, romantic nuzzles, ceremony emotion, reunions between family and friends, guests tearing up the dance floor, details of the bouquet and rings -- the list goes on. A close up of a couple holding hands in the ceremony audience is a nice photo that would make anyone smile, but when it's not just any couple, but the groom's parents, then it's all the more special.
