I'm a Member of KNPB and I'm proud to say I've been watching and enjoying the programs provided by…read morethis great station since it started in 1983. KNPB was the first TV station in Northern Nevada to begin broadcasting a digital signal, as well as the first to broadcast in HD. Additionally, KNPB was among the first to begin offering online video and audio content free of charge (via their website) to the broader Internet audience. KNPB's local programming is remarkably good for a PBS station in a market of Reno's size. Their comprehensive coverage of the recent Nevada legislative session (on both TV and via the sessionaccess.org website) ran circles around the network affiliates. In fact, on more than one occasion the other local "journalists" quoted and copied content from KNPB/KUNR resources! In addition to the television programming, KNPB partners with a lot of great educational & community outreach programs, as well as working to help sponsor local arts & cultural events. The station's current tagline, "Connecting Our Community," does a good job of summing up all the positive things this non-profit organization does for Northern Nevada. Unlike some reviewers, I really appreciate all that KNPB does for our community. The GED and other adult education programs that are run late at night are part of a partnership program with local adult education services, helping the disadvantaged working poor gain the tools they need to better their station in life. KNPB's broadcast facility includes a "Community Room" that is home to public screenings of shows & films, as well as being available for public use. Service organizations like the Lion's Club make use of this facility for its youth-oriented programs. KNPB carries all the best of PBS programming; it's really the only reason I still have an antenna hooked up to my television (I weaned myself from cable TV a few years ago). If you have a functioning brain and want real news, thought-provoking educational content and the best children's programming available, KNPB is a win-win-win. KNPB's signal is now seen throughout Northern Nevada, parts of California, and even extends a bit into Idaho, providing rural communities with unparalleled access to programming they wouldn't otherwise be able to view. Now, as a PBS affiliate, KNPB does have to do the usual rounds of fundraising throughout the year. It does no more (or less) of this than any other PBS station, so when I see someone complain about fund raising on a public television station ... clearly they aren't a Member. Or maybe they just don't understand how important public financial support is for public television! Less than 25% of KNPB's operating budget comes from Federal funds; all the rest is raised from business/non-profit underwriters and the community viewership. I can understand how some pledge programs may not be to everyone's liking; there are a few that aren't my cup of tea, but I understand why they're shown. Pledge programs are chosen based on viewer response., i.e., if a certain number of viewers pledge support and become Members by donating to KNPB during a particular program, that program (and others like it) will be scheduled more often in order to reflect that "popular vote". Not everyone's going to like the pledge programming, but those that do are the folks that help pay for everything else KNPB provides. I, for one, am thankful that Reno has such a great resource available to the public.

I'm now listening to half way through the 3rd segment and they are LITERALLY just starting to talk about what SEO actually is, before now, they just talked about why it was important but not even explaining what it actually is for the lame person. Even Eden said they didn't get to the meat and potatoes. What a freaking waste of my time! And even when they got to talking about it, they didn't even talk about anything beneficial. Funny Eden says she's an expert in the marketing business but can't even give a single piece of useful advice. Not one. What business has she actually built? Also, when she talks about building her own business in her last business builder segment, she hasn't done a single thing for her own business that she should be building along with the listeners. How can she expect anyone to follow her advice when she doesn't even do anything? As of today, 10/19 if you go to mindyourbiz.show or the other one she touts that she bought, it brings up nothing. Also, if she's such an expert in marketing, then why is there NOTHING on social media about any of this? She's supposed to be an expert who clearly has no idea what she's doing. What a waste of my time listening to that show.

I DON'T like what KUNR did when my husband and I made a classic vehicle donation to them documented in writing to be $25,500. We'd FIRST obtained TWO certified classic vehicle appraisals from two different properly liscensed classic vehicle appraisal businesses of our classic vehicle. BOTH appraisals were within $200 of $25,500. We first contacted KUNR Vehicle Donation about our $25,500 CLASSIC car donation. We first SPOKE with KUNR Vehilce Donation about our $25,500 CLASSIC car donation. We first provided KUNR Donation WITH the TWO certified classic vehicle appraisals of our classic vehicle at around $25,500. KUNR Vehilce Donation then made arrangements to pickup our $25,500 CLASSIC car donation. We were than HORRIFIED to later receive in the mail from KUNR a "receipt for a $500 tax deduction"?!?! We were ripped off!!!! Somebody at KUNR Vehicle Donation was either very stupid, or willfully greedy. Our $25,500 classic vehicle donation was intended by us to be used by KUNR. Did someoone there instead divert our $25,500 classic vehicle to themselves?! I say to that KUNR Vehicle Donation employee who ripped off us and your employer KUNR: Just because something is being donated to your business doesn't mean you should take all of it for yourself. We will NEVER ever make another donation of any sort to KUNR. P.S. Don't message me because in spite of several complaints to yelp, for years now I am unable to open up any messages in yelp to me :-(

I mostly listen in the morning (it wakes me up) and I looked forward to hearing Michele Rivera greet me when I wake with her warm and friendly, "Good Morning!" along with weather and other local tidbits to start the day. If I am able to listen later, it is usually in the car, and I love having a local NPR station to catch up on news, both local and world. I also like the variety of voices, the Latin voices. it reflects my community and I wish more people would tune in. I've been supporting the station for almost 10 years will continue to do so.

September 12, 2018 was the (I lost track) 3rd annual Wine & Dine. edible Reno Tahoe teams up with Dolan Lexus to host the fund raising event for AACT- Academy of Arts, Careers, and Technology. If you're a foodie this event is a no brainer. You spend three hours sipping fabulous wines, snacking on delicious delectables created just for this night, AND you are supporting our local kids and future chefs. Dolan has hosting to a science. All their new cars were moved to back lots, staff directed you quickly to wide open lots- easy peasy. Check in inside the front door and receive a real wine glass, snack tray and menus. Fill glass with choice of champagne and head upstairs. On the second floor in the larger room were the nine food stations represented by - hômáge, Moo Dang, Full Belly Deli, Homegrown Gastropub, Blend, Yosh's, Pignic, The Row and the students of AACT. In Dolan's coffee center were the sweet treats from - Dorinda's, Hub Coffee, Bibo's Freddo Gelato, Batch Cupcakery, and Bella Italia. Beyond plenty of incredible food and wine. With several areas to wander around in, the space was nice. Roaming, sitting and standing areas. I thought I was pretty smart- I headed straight to the dessert area to enjoy Dorinda's table and some chat time with Dillion. Then some creamy gelato from Bibo's. Now into the savory area. So many unique dishes. Homegrown- I heard several people rave on the tri tip torta sliders, and I agree. I had two. The students' steamed buns- so fresh and soft !! Don't underestimate hömáge, the savory items Nicholle creates are mouthwatering. Why should I describe every morsel? You should be here next year and taste for yourself!!! I was waiting for my ailing dad while he was in a surgical procedure and spotted this issue. Looking through it, kept my mind busy with more positive thoughts. This is one of my favorite periodicals. He is a great person to wake up to. Middays with Jamie is fantastic. She does #SmallBusinessSpotlight on Wesnesdays at noon. She brings in local small businesses. And she doesn't limit herself to businesses with brick and morter stores... she also includes smaller online busnesses that people run from their homes! I look forward to continue listening and seeing how you guys grow over the years.
