6/9/24 Sunday. Went shopping with the wife here. We were buying food for us and a neighbor who is battling cancer and likes this Kroger the best as it is close to her 5 year old's daycare. Good selection and decent deals on sale items. Asked a nice employee where the "Home Chef" food items were and he politely took me right to them! Ambiance was pleasant and the music playing in the background was decent and not too loud. Be aware of the Checkout Area: MOST of the checkout area is SELF checkout. When we checked out around 12:45pm (on Sunday) there were only TWO of the FIVE registers open, that are staffed by employees. The other 20 registers are SELF CHECKOUT! (Hence I awarded only 4 stars) Will be back. Been here a few times and it is my choice also for any Kroger in the area. read more

I used to like this Kroger, but it seems as if in the past 6-12 months it has gone completely down hill. They remodeled and changed all the aisles around sometime the past year. They upgraded their cheese section and brought in a lady from Atlanta who really knew her cheeses. She said she was going to be training someone to help her in the new section. She apparently lasted a little over a month. She was very helpful Now there is really nobody that knows much about the cheeses. Went in yesterday and apparently the lady that does work there had left early. None of the there people in the deli area knew anything at all about cheese. Went looking for Cream of Coconut for a cake. They've always had it in the liquor area by their Bloody Mary Mixes, etc. It is apparently no-longer carried. Spent 15 minutes looking for it. Went to the self serve checkout and had a bunch of flowers. They weren't tagged with a price tag, so the lady in self help went over to the phone and over the loud speaker asked for assistance from the flower department. After waiting at the phone for about 2 minutes, she went over and spent about 5 minutes helping another customer, then came back to me, went back to the phone again and asked for help. Two employees came up, neither knew the prices, so they went off to find the price. Total waste of time. Went back today to get something. The line in the first two self helps were about 7 deep with people waiting. They had two cashiers working with a line of about 6 people. The second cashier had two people and she was waiting for a supervisor or somebody to come help with the register. I got in line and she said "This line is closed". The person behind me just rolled his cart to the side and said "I'm leaving this here" and walked out. Something's gone wrong with this store. I liked it better than the new one on Killian only because it was a bit closer and was easier to navigate, but I'm going to start going to Killian. And another note...if you want to get cash back on the self-checkout machine they charge you. Hello Publix! read more

Went to purchase sale items and the app was not working and confirmed by staff it was not working thru the day. Assistant manager jeff refuse to override and make correction after holding ul the line for 15 minutes. I am a fan of Kroger in general, and this one isn't horrible, but I've never had a pickup order done on time. I understand it's busy, but if you can't fulfill a job, don't offer the service. I won't be coming back. read more

Good selection and the best prices the only problem is cleanliness. The store appears a little disheveled at times.

Hostile work environment. I got pushed out for having ASD and not being a small talker. I would come in for my shift, get stuff done, and still be a team player. When I didn't quit they kept piling on with smear campaigns to customers and coworkers and cutting my hours. It got to the point where coworkers and customers were avoiding me and the meat department lead (John) was telling them to. Easily the saddest display of humanity I've ever seen. 30+ year old men with kids, bullying at Kroger. Everyone (including HR) is homophobic but there are homosexuals who work in the store so they become homophobic to get the heat off of them. I had people I don't even know calling me slurs and it was a joke to the upper management. The store manager is a joke too. Whoever is above HR needs to do a sweep and get better supervisors. Let's me first say I live in the Harbinson area. I came on this side to visit family during the Christmas Season. We stopped by this store because it is in a strip mall and convenient just to pop in. Let me just say this is the worst Kroger's I've ever been in. I have the Kroger app and shop at a Kroger's at least once a week near my home and I like that store. But this store needs a complete over hall. When you enter the store trash was literally every. In the shopping carts ,all in the front area also in the store area. They had buckets in different areas catching water that was dripping from the ceiling just the worst. We used self check out and customer service wasn't any better. Horrible. When I say I would never shop here. Kroger's head manager needs to really look into why this store can operate under such horrible conditions. If I could give this a zero I would . read more

Horrible store. Always out of stock, the employees have the worst customer service skills. I can never seem to find help. I'm a big fan of Kroger. At night they have Gigi working the self checkout area. I just want to say that she is a very nice, helpful, and pleasant person. I have never experienced poor service from her ever! I have on many occasions shop at night and she has always been very professional and helpful. This Kroger location is lucky to have her. I don't frequent Krogers that often because where I liver there isn't any, but I always seem to run into one when I'm out of town. Well, I wanted some fruit and a fresh piece of salmon and Kroger was the nearest grocery store to me. The fruit was kinda of expensive, but I found a nice piece of salmon on sale and picked up a few crab legs for my son which were also on sale...winning. The guy in the meat department even steamed the crabs for me although they had already closed. I didn't purchase much but racked up a $30 tab quickly. If I could add negative zeroes I would; the parking lot and situation is a nightmare in and of itself. Cars come from several directions there is no order as this store is connected to a strip mall. I arrived at this store around 0615 this morning after I got off from work. I see a lady checking out at the self checkout, the cashier was walking back and forth in the area, the doors were locked. I stood out there in the cold (it was around 40 degrees with the wind blowing) waiting to see if she would come and open/unlock the door. I was thinking maybe she was limiting the number of customers because maybe she was opening and the rest of the staff hadn't arrived yet. She saw me, nothing happened. I walked to the other doors, there was a sign on the door that the entrance was closed. After returning to my car I see the doors magically open for another customer to enter the store. I hate this store and avoid this location at all costs by because I am tired after working on my feet all night I came to this one because it is closer to my house. The above examples are why I drive out of my way to go to the Kroger on Killian Rd as it is always a pleasant experience every time I go there. AMAZING! It's like at a souped-up up Walmart! It's only been open a few months but wow what it'sdone for the area. You can get gas ,Starbucks , food to go, groceries and even by clothes! There is a pharmacy and a florist, too. Bright, clean, with wide aisles and employees everywhere asking to assist, it's everything you could imagine for a grocery superstore. I was blown away, too, by the prices. Lots of good sales on all kinds of items. I look forward to stopping in again on my way down the intetstate. This used to be my absolute favorite grocery in Columbia. Close to home, good service and good variety. Still close to home, still good variety but absolutely no service. I initially hoped that my first bad experience was a "one-off" when there was only one check out line with about 7 people waiting. After the 5th visit with one check out line open and multiple people waiting it is now clear to me that this is simply their new normal. You can either use the self checkout, even with a full basket, or you can wait in the very long line at the one open check out. With the number of grocery stores within a few miles, including a Publix across the street, I think I've finally had enough. read more

This Kroger was kind of a big deal when I was in HS right down the road... It was brand new, huge and open 24/7!!!!! I don't shop very often on the NE side of town anymore but recently stopped in for old times sake and to grab a couple of natural products from the health food section. I HATE the new layout/renovation (I just don't like change, there was something cozy about the old layout and I miss it). Service has never been extraordinary here, I've always been checked out by a high schooler that's preoccupied with chatting up the baggers. They have a Starbucks and lottery at the entrance with customer service - so I guess that's a plus - but I don't think this place is open 24hrs a day anymore. read more

I went here last night to get a book of stamps it was 920 looking to see where I could by some I asked the bagger where could I purchase them he said go ask customer service so I've went over there once already there was s girl at the Starbucks location on her phone I thought she was just sitting there no come to find out she works at customer service in no uniform what so ever she acted like I ruined her life . Then she asks what do you need I said where can I buy stamps at then she replied in a annoyed tone you can get them at any register I said I'm sorry I didn't know. I love Kroger, but this particular store is old and grungy. I've been there three times in the last month, and each time they have been completely out of produce and meat. No salad, barely any apples, potatoes, etc. Not a solitary piece of chicken to be found in the meat department. Staff is rude and incompetent. Baggers placing produce with cleaning products, cashiers carrying on personal conversations with each other, and for some reason there's always a group of employees standing in the way in the middle of the main aisle near the registers. I can't figure this on out as they aren't directing customers, they are just standing around talking. I'll pay extra at Publix, thanks! read more

I have been a Kroger fan for as long as I can remember but this one has been my favorite. Everyone is super nice. The California rolls they make there are delicious. When I went to check out there were only two lanes open but there was only one person in front of me so no big deal, I was shocked when one of the mangers stopped what he was doing to come open another lane and check me out. Amazing because I really needed to get back to work. Only reason they did not get a five star is because one day I was trying to call to get information and was hung up on 3 times and transferred around a couple times before someone could help me. Might need to establish who to transfer people to when calling about glassware and then I will have no complaints. read more

We got stuck living in Sumter for almost three years and Kroger was an absolute lifesaver for us. What passes for grocery stores in Sumter is pathetic and we would often make the 45 minute drive to Columbia just to shop here at this Kroger. We had spent many years living in Europe prior to being banished to Sumter so being able to find things like the cheese selection here was a Godsend. The Mediterranean Bar alone was worth the trip as we could get fresh tabbouleh, a huge selection of olives, marinated vegetables and such. The sushi they make fresh there was also very good. The fish and seafood department was great as well, the selection they had was wonderful and fresh and the guy who worked there, Jerry, was very friendly and helpful. Basically, they featured several sections and products that you just couldn't find in a jerkwater town like Sumter. We have since moved back to Europe but I still have fond memories of Kroger. read more
