The car…read morewas just totally mangled and honestly, I wasn't sure if it was even worth fixing as I only had PLPD insurance. AAA had my car towed over to Totten's late that night and I was told to contact them in the morning when the business was open. After speaking with aaa and learning they do absolutely nothing for plpd coverage, I headed to Totten's to find out the damage. Andy was the guy who greeted me and I believe also worked on my car. He was super friendly and clearly knowledgeable about the car and explained everything to me in a way I could understand (I'm mechanically impaired). He told me that I had a nice car and it wasn't a total loss and was worth fixing. The initial quote he gave me was much more than I could afford but as soon as I told him I'd be paying out of pocket with no help from my insurance company he rewrote the estimate and gave me two options - bare minimum but driveable or pre-deer condition (roughly $4,000 and $3,500 respectively) and Given I was working with a budget, as I was planning a huge cross country move, I told him to just make it driveable. To my surprise said he could have it all ready for me by my departure date but I told him I would not be able to pay for it for a month when I got a settlement I'd been expecting. He told me it was no problem and he wouldn't charge me storage, to keep in touch and let me know when I was able to pay. I flew out to California and after three loooong months and checking in once a month or so to let them know I was still fully intending to pay for my car, I finally got my settlement and called them up to pay over the phone. The lady told me it came to a grand total of $3,050. $500 less than the original quote!!!! Yay. I picked it up about two weeks later when I flew home. The car looked almost exactly the way it did before the deer(which was no small feat), it was clean and shiny and just far exceeded my expectations. I was expecting much less considering I'd opted out of the extra body work and aesthetic stuff but I'm pretty sure that he did a lot of extra stuff for me just as a favor since I had to pay so much out of pocket. I appreciated everything they did sooo much so thank you again for everything and I had no problems whatsoever driving to California. I made it and the car runs great! They told me to bring it in so they could look at it and give me a better idea of what was going on and if it needed to be repaired or not.
